A great time watching ice racing! Close to 3 hours of non-stop action!
I purchased tickets at full price (not the half price tix offered closer to the show date). I specifically chose seats right at the start/finish line and in the front row in that location so there would be no one in front of us. Because these tickets were purchased several months ago and I could not predict what the COVID situation would be like by now, I also purposely chose my seats to start at the end of a row (aisle seat) and then paid for an additional fifth seat so that the four people in our group would have separation from anyone sitting directly next to us on both ends to provide a small amount of social distancing. When we arrived at the show, we were directed to move into another line because we were being displaced due to changes made by the show organizers, where no one would be allowed to be seated in the front rows (presumably made for safety reasons). We were given the next seats available, which meant we were no longer at the start line, we had a group which included 4 young children directly in front of us (as would be expected, they were up and down throughout the show), and we did not have an aisle seat. While all of that was, of course, frustrating, what added greatly to this reaction was the fact that our new seats looked directly across the ice to where our chosen seats were located and a group of people proceeded to sit in our original seats. I kept expecting someone from the venue to tell them they had to move, but this never occurred. After about an hour of waiting, I went to speak to the HEB Center's customer relations desk. The woman there directed me to the Ticketmaster window since they were the ones who changed our seats. That woman passed the buck back to the Center for not adhering to the change made by the show. I went back to the customer services desk and again spoke to the first woman, who then brought in the help of an older man. He told me he was hard of hearing so I was trying to speak louder to explain what had happened ... and then he told me to "Calm down" because I was talking loudly!!! He jotted down info and then walked away as I was still talking. The end result was that my party stayed in the same, less-than-choice seating, while looking across at our chosen and paid for ideal seats occupied by others for the entire show. No one from the HEB Center ever approached them and there were no markings on the rows to indicate they were off-limits.
Fun event, many families there with kids really getting into it. Great idea and hope the league continues to gain momentum.
My family had so much fun watching ice racing and all the events provided.
I drove from Denver to see this event, and it was worth every mile. Good show, good racing, good interviews. The riders we’re prepared and knew how to be interviewed.
Poor Sound. Too small of a track. Pretty much garbage.
Have always enjoyed watching these races. Took some friends that had never been and they enjoyed it as well.
First time to see the ice racing. I loved it. Very entertaining. I hope it comes back to Round Rock ever year
This event was great my grandsons loved it that was a great time for all 4 of my grandsons
It was not exciting at all. The most exciting event was the amatuers feature event. Otherwise the heat races were very boring, whoever got the jump on the lead, the order never changed from the start. Expected the track to be bigger and races to be more exciting. Would not go again and would not recommend.
This was an awesome experience for the whole family. They did an incredible job and keeping things moving and entertaining
We took our 4 kids to this event and we had a blast! Kids enjoyed meeting the riders and they all couldn’t have been more friendly. Races were kept moving fast and definitely worth going to see!!!
Show was exciting from start to finish! Something for everyone from kids to adults!
Took friends along they enjoyed the night very much. Have been there the last three years for the races.
The limbo was cool. Otherwise it was way to small of a track. Not enough riders and not enough action to keep me entertained. Ok for younger kids not adults.
Awesome event!! Will be getting tickets next year!!
I have to say I was excited for the event. Then I was deeply disappointed once it started. It looked like the "racers" were having more fun then the audience. It contained cheezy special effects. The racers had too small of a course, with minimum laps to race. Barely any passing occurred, first in the corner, first to the finish line; made for a boring night. We left, along with many others, after an hour. We were hoping it was going to get better, it didn't. It was a sad night! I was going to ask for a refund, but I considered it a donation.
Terrible PA system could not understand announcers background music too loud Heats too short add laps because of short track need more corner people to keep race moving
We've been going to the ICE racing events in Bloomington every year since the first year they started touring there 10 years ago, and I have to say I was disappointed this year. The sound was horrible, no one in our section (or anywhere) could understand the announcer, and it started late. It felt like there were a lot of filler races, because there weren't as many pro racers as in previous years.(i.e. most prelim heats with 3 riders instead of 4.) An amateur rider literally almost took down the starting gate; he ran straight into it on the START. But in general, there just seem to be less "pros" each year, and less competitive races. Overall, I did enjoy it but it just isn't holding up to previous years. Kids love this event. If you've never been before and can get a good deal on tickets, it's worth checking out.
This is not a bad review on the Coliseum itself, but more about how the ICE race event was managed. For the $80 it cost for 2 adults and 1 child, I felt it was overprices for the performance. Lot of filler racing with very amateur wannabe's. Trying to start amateur heats was a mess and the start/finish gate almost fell over because someone ran into it before they even started. No one seemed prepared or looked like they new what was going on. Not much actual competitive racing. The Announcer was a joke. Screwing up names, pausing because he messed up or couldn't think of what to say next. The actual competitive racing was great and hats off to those racers for a good show, but for the money I expected a better organized event from the Coliseum. I can go to STL for same cost and see much better organized event. I think this was about a $10 per person event.
