    Championships were spectacular

by Petunia on 8/4/22Hayward Field - Eugene

The Hayward Field renovation was just as amazing as advertised. We had been to the "old" venue, so had a real feel for the changes/upgrades. The event, itself, was fantastic...ie. watching the athletes compete was great. We must give a "shout out" to the organizing committee for the FREE shuttle service. We were SO impressed with the efficiency! The merchandise selection was not very impressive. Having been to the 2012 Olympics in London where there were many more items available, this WAC shopping experience paled in comparison. The one aspect that really did NOT meet expectations was the River Park Festival. To us it was a waste of time! It was simply an ordinary food court-market set-up with artisans selling their wares (NOTHING related to the athletics competition), musical entertainment and a couple of activites for children. The signage/directions for this "festival" was ATROCIOUS! We opted to use the river front path to walk back to the U of O campus, back to Hayward Field.

    Athletes Amazing, Mangement Not!

    by E. D. on 8/3/22

The Athletic performances were outstanding! We saw several magnificent performances. So, the athletes showed up and performed well. However, the management of this event left a lot to be desired! The setup was not done with the goal of making the fan experience the best. It appeared they were focused on what was easiest for the workers to deal with. To start with, the decision to force fans to have to go through security twice a day, if you attended both sections, left such a bad taste in my mouth relative to the event. Then to not create a holding area in the screening area for items once the items were discovered to be an issue going through the detectors, was absolutely mind boggling. Therefore, having to screen problem items for the detectors every section resulted in the need for multiple trips through the detectors. Again, this was not well planned. Airports do this every day. In addition, not allowing fans to patronize the food vendors in between sections and at the end of the evening sections created all sorts of problems. At the end of day section, we had to find some place on campus to eat. At the end of the evening section, not allowing fans to get food from the vendors meant often times struggling to find some place in the Eugene area that was open after 9pm. I can go on about the numerous issues like I have described above but, I will not. I will state that over the years we have attended several events at Hayward field over the years and this event was by far my worst experience. We do not have a person we are attending events to support. We are simply track and field fans. We flew all the way from Florida and spent 11 days supporting this sport. If World Athletics is putting on another event, I don't think I will spend my money to participate again!

    Best Event Ever!

by Njreynolds on 8/1/22Hayward Field - Eugene

Bad news, I left my phone with the tickets at home 🙁. Good news, they had a booth just for people like me and sent the tickets to my husband's phone. They were so we'll organized and prepared for everything. The races and field events were amazing. The crowd was incredible, supporting ALL athletes, not just USA. I left this event feeling so happy; better than a rodeo, better than a baseball game. I felt proud to be an Oregonian, but even more, proud to be an American. 🇺🇸

    facilities were stunning

by Seattle spectator - 9 days on 7/31/22Hayward Field - Eugene

the facilities were stunning!! the security was very obvious and seemingly excellent. there were early stage ticket reading challenges that seemingly got better over time. you should consider giving the times / distances for the medalists when they are introduced. Or post the results on a screen for a bit to help us remember. very good job at showing both metric and "standard" distances on the field score boards. did a better job of keeping extraneous people off the field. during women's javelin, should have removed the rolling gear table / awning from the field that place near the finish line. it totally blocked the distance reader board for the long jump!! please try to not ever ask for the assistance of the male with the graying hair pony tail. he stands in the way at the Prefontaine, stands up in the infield during Pre and Trials, does not sit down or get down during events. this is not a high school meet where a helper can stand on the infield to help and watch. he blocks the on the field triangle results boards.

One of the best sporting events I've attended.

by Nancy on 7/31/22Hayward Field - Eugene

The facility was beautiful, seats so close to the athletes and events, knowledgeable and excited fans, smooth entrance and exit from the facility and a lovely time in Eugene.

by RPM duo on 7/29/22Hayward Field - Eugene

We along with thousands who awaited this event were treated to a spectacular presentation of athleticism and athletes from around the globe. Thank you Eugene, Hayward field, U of O and the many volunteers who made it all work. Too many good things to list. Loved it!

    Organization excellent...security somewhat lax.

by JJP on 7/29/22Hayward Field - Eugene

I thought the organization of the meet was excellent. The shuttle buses were run very well. I was however, disappointed with the security which was a bit lax. They did not check bags as well as they could have. Also, there were occasions where people in upper seats came down to empty lower (better) seats to cheer on someone in particular. They would stand up and obstruct our view for quite some time, not just momentarily to cheer someone on!
