Following all the trades, draft picks, and free agent signings in the offseason, each team goes into its training camp in April. To prepare for the intense competition of the WNBA regular season, players sharpen their skills and test new strategies in a set of preseason exhibition games. These games played in early May give fans a chance to catch their favorite teams back in action along with a sneak peek of the new season’s breakout stars.
WNBA Regular Season
The WNBA season tips off in May and each team plays 34 games as they aim for a spot in the playoffs. The competition is fierce and it only intensifies as the season progresses. Each WNBA team visits every other squad at least once a year, making it easy for fans to catch their favorite teams and players no matter where they live. After the WNBA All-Star game and break, all 12 teams put the pedal to the metal, attempting to win as many games as possible as they battle for playoff positioning and their shot at basketball immortality.
The WNBA Playoffs kick the excitement into overdrive. The top eight teams with the highest winning percentage during the regular season – regardless of conference – qualify for the WNBA Playoffs and are seeded by overall record. The playoffs consist of four rounds with the top two seeds advancing straight to the Semifinals and the third and fourth seeded teams receiving first-round byes. The first and second rounds are single-elimination and the Semifinals and Finals are played in a best-of-five format. The WNBA Playoffs and Finals are crammed with win-or-go-home action and never fail to deliver edge-of-your-seat drama and excitement for all basketball fans.
