Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

  • Terrible

by JetQ on 11/28/21Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

I go to many arena's... i sat in a $225.00 seat. It was squishy, zero and i mean ZERO leg room!! Brutal view from row 9. True North this arena sucks for comfort. I couldnt sip my drink without the staff telling me to out my mask on. Like im trying to drink!!!! No thx. Id never recommend or go to this arena again.

  • Had Fun!

by Chucky9192 on 11/25/21Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Even with the vaccine requirements the entry to the stadium was smooth and efficient. Everything in the rink is layed out so that it is easy to find your seats. I sat in row 1 of section 206, the view was excellent. Only complaint about row 1 is that the drink holders are built into your armrest so it is very inconvenient to either rest your are or use it as a drink holder whereas in the other rows the drink holder is mounted to the back of the seat in front of you. Also I found the seating in Canada Life Centre very small and cramped. But overall the experience was good and I had fun.

by Bob Loblaw on 11/19/21Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

We got there early….so got good parking spot in the library…took out a book… Of course our seats in sec 121 were the farthest from our entry but that’s ok. Great seats….great view of 3 Jets goals! And the good guys won. Will come again.

  • I was not able to take my backpack which was really small.

by Farah on 11/9/21Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Now I know the size restrictions on bags but before going to the venue there were no details regarding this I the ticket. I had to pay $10 and walk a block to another building just to store my bag. Other than that we enjoyed the game, food and the atmosphere.

  • First NHL game

by Rox on 10/9/21Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

The arena was awesome, (seats were quite close together though), staff were all over and very helpful and very fast to get everyone safely in. People on hand to make sure people were wearing masks when needed. Also the view of the ice from our seats was excellent even though we were in the upper deck

  • Jets vs Flames

by Polly on 10/9/21Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great with my experience with the exception of the heavy metal music that was playing for 1 + hours before the game started. It's harsh and I think they could pick much better music. Lots of older adults and small children - which neither tolerate very well. Great seats - the ushers were very helpful with directing us to our seats - other employees offering 50 - 50 and or food. Was great look forward to returning for another game - with any luck without the harsh music. Polly

    by B. B. on 3/12/20Bell MTS Place - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

We bought good tickets for the Friday Feb 14th game but couldn't go due to an unexpected family tragedy. After a few bad weeks we decided to celebrate Valentines day a month late an got good seats for the Coyetes game. Thanks JETS for lifting our spirits with a big "come from behind" win in their fight for a playoff spot.

  • I just never felt excited at this stadium.

by Mitch on 3/9/20Bell MTS Place - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

In the last two months I have went to 3 different stadiums for hockey games. This stadium was by far the worst. Not in the fact of it was gross and expensive because it was beautiful and cheap. I just never felt pumped up at this game. Really I just felt meh the entire game and we were winning!
