Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

  • Jets Pride Game Excellent

by Scoop on 11/5/25Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

The Winnipeg Jets and True North should be very proud of their Pride Game. I really was impressed with the interviews with different folks from the Pride Community. The anthem singer was excellent and should be invited back. Not only that but we witnessed a rare penalty shot and a solid Jets win.

  • Great Game Experience

The Game was awesome the service was exceptional When I realized I was in the wrong seat I was immediately helped to my correct seat.

  • Love the Jets! Fantastic afternoon.

Sat in first row of section 303. Great seats! I like the flat entry of this section since I have difficulty with stairs. Usually sit in 2nd row, after tripping on floor-level cupholder in the 9th row and falling forward. Luckily, a fan from each side grabbed my jersey and prevented a disaster. Since that event, I stick to ends of first few rows.

  • What a game!

by Anonymous on 10/12/25Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

The game was so much fun! The building was full of excitement as the team played their hearts out with long drawn out battles on the ice. The music set the tone and you could tell the boys were getting back into the groove for another successful season!!

  • Sick

  • Hockey game

Great game. Very good entertainment. Great friend staff. Helpful

  • Questionable Experience

by Anonymous on 10/2/25Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Some of the music played was inappropriate and tasteless. The girl beside me was completely wasted before the game even begun and they still continued to serve her alcohol which led to her being a complete mess, spilling food everywhere. And though I was comfortable in my seat watching the game, it makes for an uncomfortable experience when sat beside someone who is morbidly obese and they are spilling into your seat.

  • Work ethics, confidence and will to compete

by Disgruntled Jets Fan on 5/3/25Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Jets have to play same style they did regular season. You don’t see the confidence in them during playoffs, they hold back, they don’t have the fight in them and look lost at times. Body language and facial expressions of players say it all. Please don’t disappoint your fan base. Stanley cup champion pedigree experience teams go all in and all out to do all they can to win and with confidence and believing in themselves. Us fans believed in the jets all season only to disappoint from their lack of will power and the motivation to compete hard Even when they are behind They need to push hard and give the fan support base they rightfully deserve for supporting them President winners can’t just throw in the towel. They didn’t earn it by fluke It was from strong work ethics and the confidence to dominate Play your own game and not play the game of other team
