About

Widespread Panic are an American jam band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1986. Composed of frontman John Bell, Dave Schools (bass/vocals), Domingo S. Ortiz (percussion), John Hermann (keyboards/vocals), Jimmy Herring (guitar), and Duane Trucks (drums), the band is known for never playing the same show twice and holds the record for the most sold-out shows at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre as of June 2022. Since forming, Widespread Panic have released 12 studio albums — several of which have climbed the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart — and 11 live albums, as well as a plethora of archival releases including vintage concert performances and their ongoing Porch Songs series of two-track soundboard recordings. Though they reduced their extensive touring schedule at the end of 2016, the band continues to make festival appearances and multi-night engagements at venues across North America.

    Allman Brothers needed more time

    by mag357 on 10/11/09BJCC Arena - Birmingham

I must say we drove from Nashville to Birmingham to see the Allman Bros in doors instead of seeing them outdoors in Nashville the next week. It was really disappointing that so many of the songs that I play from the 70's were not given the time to get into those songs. Melissa, Tied to the Wiping Post along with so many great songs were not given the time to play. Maybe some day soon the Allman Brothers will play the Ryman in Nashville by themselves and not share the time with another group. Don't get me wrong Widespread Panic was rocking the house but I missed the classic's of the Allman Brothers.

    Entertaining but too smokey

    by L0328 on 10/11/09BJCC Arena - Birmingham

The title says it all. There was a lot of energy at this concert. The fans were so excited to see Widespread Panic and the Allman Brothers. For non-smokers like myself, however, It was way too smokey. The security staff walked around the general admission area (floor) every once in a while and asked people to put out their cigarettes, but it was kind of pointless. Other than the heavy cigarette smoking, it was a great concert.

    Great Show

by Trvlnlght on 10/9/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

Great show, Widespread brought their A game and the Allman's were a great show opener. Venue was chill and relaxed in the general admission area and the lines for beverages was short and sweet. Beautiful weather, beautiful night, beautiful music. Couldn't have asked for more.

The Allman Brothers and Widespread were awesome!

by thekerns on 10/9/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

Although the order went out of sequence and the Allman Bros played first, Greg and the boys did not disappoint. Their tribute to Duane was phenomenal and the music was all that one would expect from this great band. As a huge fan of guitar greats Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring, having them all three at the same venue was exciting enough, but when Jimmy joined the Allman Bros on stage..Wow! A dream come true. Widespread Panic gave an unbelievable show too. Their sound, lighting and visuals added extra excitement. These two bands together made for an unforgettable night.

    Eh...

by VA2332 on 10/9/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

Had the ESI guy not caused us to have a beer dropped (a FULL beer- $10) it would have been a better time. The guy didn't even apologize. And there were people down by us in GA- Orchestra that shouldn't have been there (no wrist bands)- and they were smoking cigarettes in my face. Really killed my experience. The concert was good though- lots of jamming and some good ol numbers.

    Garage Jam Band Session

by Pleasehelpmenow on 10/8/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

Extremely disappointed with the Allman Brothers Band, I came to hear the classics at $55.00 a ticket not them trying to sound like Wide Spread Panic.

    Allmans rocked

by Anonymous on 10/8/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

This is the best I've seen the Allman Bros...EVER. They were tight and on time. Everyone at the show was having a blast, including the band. Greg sounded the best he has in years.

    Amazzzing

by MommaMiiia on 10/8/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

Allman Brother's played first and were on fire. Derik was awsome on his guitar solos. Widespread Panic then finished it, and they were absolutely amazing. They are such an awsome live band. The drum solo was sick.

    ALLMAN BROS A BIT DISAPPOINTING

by ANNE731 on 10/8/09nTelos Wireless Pavilion - Portsmouth

i DECIDED ON GOING TO THIS CONCERT BECAUSE I THOUGHT TO EXPECT ALLMAN BROS MUSIC OF THE EARLY 70'S. INSTEAD, THEIR ENTIRE SET WAS A BLUESY MIX OF OTHER ROCK SONGS DURING THAT ERA. AND IF I NEEDED TO SUM IT UP, I WOULD HAVE TO SAY IT WAS ONE HUGE JAM SESSION WITH VERY LITTLE INTERPLAY WITH THE AUDIENCE. IF I HADN'T GONE WITH SOMEONE, i PROBABLY WOULD'VE LEFT BEFORE THE BROS FINISHED PLAYING . IT ALL APPEARED LIKE SOME BAD THROWBACK TO THE 70S. I WASN'T VERY IMPRESSED. BESIDES, WHAT BAND NEEDS 4 DRUMMERS????

    Black Crows were the draw

by Esthergrace on 7/17/09Belvedere - Louisville

The only band I really wanted to see was the Crows. They did not disappoint. They rocked for almost 2 hours and teased with songs from their upcoming album. I was surprised at what they did not play: Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution or Josephine. It was interesting to hear some of the not as known bands onthe 2 stages during the day. I paid for VIP tickets - wouldn't do that again. Not worth the $.

    Forecastle was awesome

by CrystalA on 7/16/09Belvedere - Louisville

I thought the Forecastle festival was quit nice. The Gault House was a perfect accomodations to the festival outside the doors. The riverfront location was beautiful with sweet sunsets as Widespraed Panic was tuning up. Widespread tore the plcae down Sunday night playing a 3 hour set with no break, cranking out 24 songs in a row. You can count on seeing me again at the Forecastle Festival, espaecially is WSP will be there (or how about the Dead next summer?).

    !!!PANIC at Forecastle!!!

by Nigene on 7/16/09Belvedere - Louisville

Great festival. Still small enough to enjoy. Mainstage standing/seating area was packed, but people were extremely friendly.
