Amazing show that highlighted athleticism, soul, spirit, history and art.
Revelations is fantastic, it is a must see in american culture.
just great. You would think I'd get tired of Revelations, but I don't. And their "new" piece was just wonderful.
The dance began and initially looked quite interesting, but after a bit I started to think it was too repetitive and wanted it to end or change, and then slowly slowly that happened and I ended up mesmerized by all the intricate changing patterns. It was wonderful.
There were no sets, average costumes, and boring choreography.
Great performance. However the sound level on the second dance at the 3-15-11 event was far too loud.
My favorite dance company in the entire universe--their performance in Portland was mind-boggling, gorgeous, fantastic, lovely--every other wonderful adjective you can imagine. Thank you, Alvin Ailey.
For someone who's not that into watching dance, I was captivated by the Alvin Ailey dancers' skills and fluidity. I had zero expectations, so I found it interesting how they handled the narration of the black renaisance opening piece, how there was no explanation of the 2nd act, and how they showed film clips of Alvin Ailey and the origins of Revelations. The final 2 songs of Revelations were worth the entry fee alone. You definitely leave feeling elated. For anyone who likes musicals and dance, I'd recommend that you see Alvin Ailey at least once in your lifetime.
This performance was a powerhouse, and the dancers and choreography were brilliant.
I loved the duet- amazing. but i thought the main performance was ill-matched and awkward (not in a good way)- i couldn't figure out why all the dancers looked like j.crew models in the 90's and were wearing black undergarments. i loved many of the dancers but they were paired oddly and it was distracting because the didn't move similarly. i thought it was a bit expensive for dance performance that i wasn't super impressed by.
I took 2 grand children and they enjoyed it very much.
If "Fraulein Maria" comes to your area, go see it! It is a remix of the story of "The Sound of Music," told through dance set to the original movie score, and it is wonderful!! Part an homage to, part a gentle satire of, "The Sound of Music," it is (by turns and sometimes simultaneously) hilarious and tender. Doug Elkins created "Fraulein Maria," and his company does justice to his unique esthetic: first-rate dancers performing Bessie-winning choreography!
From the comedic opening lines to the final song Fraulein Maria swept us into the exoctic movements and graceful steps of the performers with the wonderful and memory filling songs from our favorite movie. Thank you.
Wonderful experience. Funny, unexpected and irreverent.
I laughed. A lot. From beginning to end. I don't go to dance performances, but I couldn't pass up music from The Sound of Music. I didn't realize there could be such humor and connection in dance. It is my goal to see more.
this has to be the most fun we have had in a theater in a long time.
I am rather new to dance, but this performance was absolutely the best I've seen. I had a totally physical reaction to it--so much energy and so much fun. Can't wait to see him again! I'd consider going to another city to catch him.
Who knew Tap could be so exciting?! Really thrilling performances by all five dancers with the added bonus of live music. Innovative, interesting, standard moves along with new techniques of tap made this a memorable and unforgettable evening of dance!
Just a fantastic show! "Anyone Can Get It' is right on, all of the dancers and the musicians were superb and put on great combined and individual performances. Would be great to see more!
