    Westminister First Timer

by Pepper’s Parents on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

It was amazing! Liked being outside watching multiple rings. Access to grooming area; convenient to hotels, outside area for gathering or eating, judging seemed to be consistent, judges evaluated dogs quickly, adequate souvenir shop. Suggestion for improvement include more food concessions with more variety, better information where concessions located, need for mobile phone charging especially with mobile tickets- had a close call, indoor arena was extremely cold for evening shows, helpful if a Dog Show shuttle to participants hotels was available-bad experience with Lyft or Uber requests. Thank you. Will go again.

    WKC

Lovely event center. Poor food vendor choices. Did not feel the vendors and sponsors were a part of the event. Very difficuly venue to drive to. Traffic was horrendous.

    Enjoyable and well-run event

by otterhoundmom on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

I attended only one day of the show but this venue was fantastic, easier to get around, parking was not a problem and there were plenty of employees to support the event. Great experience!

    What a great venue!

by Kangadale on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

Loved the whole show. It was great to be able to sit in the stands and watch breed judging. The groups were also great. The staff was very helpful. It was easy to get to whatever ring you wanted to watch. Enjoyed the whole experience

    Disappointed

by Minnie610 on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

Loved the actual show but disappointed exhibitors were not available for the evening shows. Only one merchandise store was open in the arena on Monday night and not the whole evening; nothing Tuesday night. We prefer buying in person to see the product. WKC lost out on our profits. Hope it changes next year

    Bad venue

by Staten Island Dog Lover on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

Horrendous traffic getting to the show. Getting into Manhattan is easier. $60 parking is a rip even by NYC standards. Food scattered around with no signage. Had to wander to find something to eat. Poor signage getting out had to ask where Parking B was to get shuttle back to parking. Waited 20 minutes to get on a shuttle. If the show is here next year we will not be here.

    great venue!

by Patti C on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

The venue this year was perfect ...it wouldn't be as great if it was raining ....but the tennis center was nice and the tennis center staff was so nice and helpful I hope the show is in the same place next year!

    Def worth going

by Croccoted on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

This was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, since the venue was not at capacity it was very echoey so it was hard to hear. This is definitely a bucket list event.

    Terrific experience

by Wein4474 on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

Site was very well organized and planned out. Very clean. Security was excellent. All dogs were beautiful. Weather was fantastic. Great access to dogs and handlers. Adequate food court(room for improvement). Group judging should start earlier; ie 4-5:00pm

    10/10 would recommend

by Iris on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

My grandma and I absolutely loved it! Many seats were sadly empty but the dogs, the arena, and the pacing between each group were all wonderful.

Great venue — needs a few changes

by Chaucer on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

The venue is beautiful and worked well for the dog show. It was a shame that attendance appeared to be down because of the move from Manhattan. Areas for improvement: 1) more signs to help people find rings, food, benching, etc., 2) require benching and publish signs to find breeds. The show is famous for benching and the opportunity to see the breeds when they are not showing. Previous shows have had aisles well marked for particular breeds making it easier to navigate and minimize congestion., 3) contingencies for cover if there is rain. In the event of rain, due to the inherent congestion associated with a tight layout of the outdoor rings, there likely is not room for a crowd with umbrellas. The weather was great this year, but it isn’t clear what would have happened if there had been rain (which did occur both before and after the event) and 4) more reasonable prices for food/drink. We all realize that this is NY, but $12-14 for a Heineken or Coors Light or $17 for a single shot cocktail? C’mon, guys!

    Disappointing to say the least

by Schroeder on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

The new venue at the USTA Center in Queens gave the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show the "Archie Bunker" treatment instead of the "NYC" treatment it should have had. The group judging and Best in Show were in the cavernous Ashe Center where only about 10% of the seats were occupied on Monday night and 25% on Tuesday night. The sound system was HORRIBLE and the announcer (who is one of the highlights of the event) was inaudible and not understandable at all due to the absence of acoustics that WKC should have tested and corrected beforehand but obviously did not. The breed judging was held in outdoor arenas which were covered for the dogs but left the spectators in the bright sun with no forewarning - and there was no vendor on site that sold sunscreen. If it had been raining, the whole event would have collapsed. The host hotels were nice and the bus transportation to/from the hotels to the venue were adequate and well managed. However, the nearest restaurants to the host hotels were 1 1/4 miles away with no transportation at all. The hotels also did not shops where event visitors could purchase sunscreen and other necessities. Overall, the event gets a low grade - it was tailored to appeal to NYC visitors (the event web site encouraged people to use the subway but the subway wasn't anywhere near the hotels) and the people of NYC obviously didn't show up to support it. The event needs to return to Madison Square Garden where there are multiple nearby hotels, multiple nearby restaurants, and visitors can enjoy the "NYC" experience instead of feeling like Archie Bunker's cousin.

    Loved the show!!

by Lynn G. on 5/12/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

Really enjoy the show every year. It is exciting to meet the dogs and their handlers. WKC does an excellent job! The location this year was a bit disappointing with regards to travelling from our hotel room.....busing and then walking for 25 minutes. The venue however was exceptional and lots of room. Hopefully, they will return to MSG and the Piers as these locations are more convenient for travellers.

    Bait and switch

by mot626 on 5/11/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

Although tickets went on sale months ago, it wasn't until a week before the show that we found out it would NOT be benched. And then there were the problems with the venue, like only 2 food options and outdoor show rinks with no shade and blocked sight lines. I could go on, but its too depressing. We loved our previous five trips to the show in NYC.

    A great time

by Dog watcher on 5/11/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

The venue was really quiite nice at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Arena-weather helped of course but the set up was good-rain might have hurt but it stayed clear- but lots of space to move about an see everything going on and lots of dogs of course.-signage for incoming spectators could have been a little better and the evening events in the arena had a problem-if your tickets were combined with someone elses on their phone you could not leave and return in the reserved seating area without the person going with you-the place wasn't full-it should not have been an issue. I think if they return they should have all reserved seating at a more reasonable price-then people would be more likely to fill the bottom of the stadium

    WKC at Arthur Ash

by Donna on 5/11/23Arthur Ashe Stadium - Flushing

The signage was not very good to get to Citi Field parking. More signs with ( this way to WKC parking) would have been helpful. Also, only one shuttle bus taking people back after the show was not enough. I was disappointed spectators were not allowed in the benching area. This was popular at the Piers. It was nice to be able to ask questions about the breeds. Positive notes: Arthur Ash is a beautiful facility and viewing from my seat was amazing. I’m sure with the space, WKC Dog Show will be back there next year!
