Rating: 5 out of 5We Will ROCK You ROCKED!!!!!
by Jennjeff on 6/11/14Warner Theatre - WashingtonWe saw the national touring company of We Will ROCK You, a musical based on the music of Queen. We saw it at the historic 1920's Warner Theater as a matinée right after brunch across the street at Chef Geoff's which was a great plan! The actors were talented in all skills: singing (even in Freddie Mercury's range), acting and choreography. The band was not in the "pit orchestra" in front of the stage--they occupied a loft above the rear of the stage on scaffolding. Other than a couple brief moments when the radio remote microphones went out, the sound quality was a great way to experience the music of Queen and display the talent of the well-accomplished professional actors. One of the lead parts had a great "radio voice" he used for his dialog and could also sing very well--he made us laugh with his music history references to famous artists of today who were irrelevant in the future of the digital music world of Globenet--music content controlled by a commercial Orwellian dictator. All the acting was believable and the casting was excellent! I was tempted to buy the CDs they had for sale--especially since there was no photography or video allowed. The cast and band received at least 3 standing ovations and played an encore Queen hit song. There were a few "audience participation" songs and we enjoyed the "modern" humor mixed in. There were a few kids in the audience, so the language and sexual innuendo was manageable for about the 10-13+ age group who had no idea who Queen or Freddie was--a bit of an "educational" presentation with a bunch of references back to the beginning of the ROCK era with Elvis Presley on up through Brittney Spears/Madonna humor mixed in to the dialog. Overall we had a great show and would highly recommend if the same touring company comes to a city near you!
