Washington Wizards History

Founded in 1961, the Washington Wizards franchise has called Chicago, Baltimore, Landover, Maryland. and Washington, D.C. home. Known earlier as the Packers, Zephyrs and Bullets, the franchise changed its name to the Wizards in 1997.

After earning two playoff appearances in their first five seasons in Baltimore, the team started a formidable run of postseason success starting in the 1968–69 season. Led by Hall of Famers Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld (and later Elvin Hayes), the Bullets went to the playoffs 12 seasons in a row, including four trips to the Finals and a championship in 1978. Behind an MVP performance from Unseld, Washington defeated Seattle in a decisive Game 7 to clinch the title.

Five consecutive postseason appearances highlighted the Bullets’ 80s. The franchise bounced back in the early 2000s, built around the core of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. That trio led Washington to four straight playoff appearances from 2005–2008. Since then, the Wizards have qualified for the postseason five times behind All-Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, the latter of which became one of six players in NBA history to average 30-plus points per game in back-to-back seasons.

  • Washington wizards game

    by V. W. on 1/27/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Simple and easy to use. I received my tickets right away. I really liked the e-mail telling us what to expect during the event. They informed us ahead of time that no bags over 5x7 will be allowed in the arena. If we didn’t get that information , my wife would have brought her big huge purse and have been a whole different situation. So thanks for the heads up Ticketmaster on that!!

The game was great and there's special performance for celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.'s life. All are fabulous!

  • TOO EXPENSIVE...RIDICULOUS

by Last time on 1/20/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Family of 3 tix in section 422 row O (so far away) - $273 + $60 parking in garage + 1 nacho, 1 icee & 1 hot dog - $29...That's $362 for 2 adults and 1 child to go to see the Wizards...WAY OVERPRICED. The cost is so out of hand to be entertained! So unhappy about the price...Ridiculous! Last time I take my grandson to a sporting event. So sad!

  • Grandsons Birthday

by DKEITHR on 1/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My grandsons are NBA fans, Golden State and Steph Curry fans. My Christmas gift to them was to take them to the wizards Warriors game. I thought the tickets were pretty pricey for the upper level. However, all other experiences were great. All workers were friendly and helpful in the atmosphere was good.

  • Decent

by HoppyToad on 1/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The view from the seat was decent. It was high enough up that the corner video board was somewhat in the way though. The vendors and other staff members were great as always.

  • GoGo Swing

by Dundea on 1/18/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great night at Capital One Arena watching the Wizards play the New York Knicks. Seats were in Section 117. Great seats, great interaction between Wizards and Knicks fans. Wizards just didn’t muster up enough points for the win. Enjoyed the Friday night concert series featuring the music genre of Washington, DC- GoGo!! DJ Heat, Northeast Groovers and DC Vybe featuring Gregory "Sugar Bear" Elliott kept the crowd on their feet.

  • Fun go go for

by CC on 1/17/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I Enjoyed the live gogo music after the game. GOGO music for life in DC, is always a pleasure to have after a Wizards game you get to events for the price of one. I’m a DC native I grew up with Chuck Brown and the Soul Searcher, and a lot these group started from Chuck Brown.

It was to far up I really couldn’t see anything at all and tickets should be cheaper for kids

Crowd Management was great! Getting in and out of the arena was very easy. The concourses are still easy to navigate. I'd turn down the PA a bit but that's minor.

  • Boring

    by storm7543 on 12/31/22Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

we had never attended a hockey or basketball game before. The basketball game was just boring. There was no atmosphere in the hall. In ice hockey it was the other way around. We won't go to any more basketball games in Washington.
