Washington Wizards History

Founded in 1961, the Washington Wizards franchise has called Chicago, Baltimore, Landover, Maryland. and Washington, D.C. home. Known earlier as the Packers, Zephyrs and Bullets, the franchise changed its name to the Wizards in 1997.

After earning two playoff appearances in their first five seasons in Baltimore, the team started a formidable run of postseason success starting in the 1968–69 season. Led by Hall of Famers Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld (and later Elvin Hayes), the Bullets went to the playoffs 12 seasons in a row, including four trips to the Finals and a championship in 1978. Behind an MVP performance from Unseld, Washington defeated Seattle in a decisive Game 7 to clinch the title.

Five consecutive postseason appearances highlighted the Bullets’ 80s. The franchise bounced back in the early 2000s, built around the core of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. That trio led Washington to four straight playoff appearances from 2005–2008. Since then, the Wizards have qualified for the postseason five times behind All-Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, the latter of which became one of six players in NBA history to average 30-plus points per game in back-to-back seasons.

Our seats were very high up , it was the first time we ever been to a game and we were in section 417 I'd suggest you get something lower then that even if it's more money . The game was overall fun to watch but the food service employees are rude as HELL!!!!!!!!

  • Wizards vs T'Woles

by MaddoxKid on 3/28/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Game was a b'day present to my wife, a Kevin Garnett fan. Unfortunately he did not play; but, she did get to see him. Game was as expected between two mediocre to bad teams; entertaining, with the Wizards doing what the Wizards do, play to the level of the competition and lose at the end.

  • A Little Disappointed

    by WizardFan3 on 3/2/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I took my 11 year old son to this game to see Lebron James play. Imagine are surprise and disappointment when we found out he was not playing. Not that we don't love the wizards but my son really had his heart set on seeing Lebron play. I know there is no control over this but just sad my son didn't get this experience.

  • by Anonymous on 3/2/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Very disappointed in the fact that tickets were bought as a Christmas gift for my son to see his favorite player, LeBron James, play. However, this didn't happen., as he didn't even dress, and sat the bench!

  • Wizards /Cavs

by Anonymous on 3/2/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Waste or time and money! The Cavs sat Lebron, and the Wizards dominated the Cavs. I feel sorry for all the kids that came to see Lebron. I will think twice before I go to another NBA game !

  • We love the Washington Wizards!

by LaurenMD on 2/22/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

It was fun, very reasonably priced family night. Our seats were high up but we still really enjoyed ourselves!

  • Seating

by FaithBeing on 2/22/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Seating was excellent and so was the price! Exactly what Ticketmaster's seating camera showed for my seat was exactly what I got. It would be great if "all" seats had that seat viewing app. I could literally call a players name and he would hear me or selfie with me IF that's wanted. But I just chilled and enjoyed the scenaries e.g., half time, intermission, game time, etc.Thank you Ticketmaster. :0)

  • Curry & Wall went off!

  • Washington Wizards w/Jeremiah

    by DimeDiva35 on 1/21/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

We originally had nosebleed seats (section 406), and was upgraded (section 100) by an employee and our seats were the best! It was a great 1st expeience for my great nephew and I'm glad I was able to make it happen. Also shout out to the employees of Verizon Center, excellent customer service!!

  • nice venue but expensive

by superbrino on 1/21/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Saw Celtics/Wizards play. It was a good game in a good venue. Verizon is a wonderful place to watch an event. Ate at the Green Turtle restaurant before the game and then simply walked into the arena...very nice. Also, subway is right next door, also very nice. Overall a wonderful time was had, my only negative is the event for three of us was rather expensive so a return visit is not super likely

  • Wizards game was great!

by Rlyg on 1/19/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Although the Wizards were unable pull off a win in the final seconds, I found it to be a very exciting game nonetheless, and I must add that I enjoyed the experience of being in the Verizon Center tremendously--the food was good, parking was not much of a hassle, and the fans were not rowdy or disrespectful to each other. Overall, my girlfriend and I had a wonderful time there and we really enjoyed the game( especially my girlfriend--and she's not even into basketball). We will surely return for future games.
