About

Sometimes a concert ticket is really a portal to a dream world. Such is the case with Washed Out, the stage name for South-Carolina-reared and Georgia-based sound artist and multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene. Since his songscapes began spreading around the Internet in 2009 (his breakthrough EP Life of Leisure was an instant critical darling), Washed Out, which tours as a multi-piece band, has been recognized as one of the chief innovators of the nascent 'chillwave' movement. Creating mood music of the highest order, Washed Out combines groves hatched in the '70's, synth pop from the '80's, and ambient music of the very near future to create electronic sound both startlingly unique yet strangely familiar. While Washed Out's greatest exposure has been from having one of its tunes, "Feel It All Around," used as the theme to IFC's Portlandia, there's nothing ironic about its music. As embodied by its concerts and its 2013 album Paracosm, Washed Out's second consecutive record to reach the top 10 on Indie and Alternative charts, this hazy dream pop is all about wonder, romance and taking an ethereal, retro-themed voyage you never want to end.

    Wishing for MORE

by Powerflower on 8/29/14The Norva - Norfolk

The quality of washed out's show was unreal. All their songs sound so much more involved and emotional live (as is pretty usual for live music), and the DRUMMING and side chaining of bass to the drums was SO GREAT and loud and powerful. It really shoved the music into a whole new universe. The crowd was great too, everyone was so lively and into it, while still being friendly. It would be easy to just sway and nod to Washed Out but this crowd was dancing and jumping and by the encore they were crowd surfing :D the thing I was most upset about was how short the set was. Washed out also got me really pumped up and then when they were done it felt incomplete and many people milled around by the stage and outside not knowing what to do with their energy. A closer would have been nice, or just for Washed Out to play a longer set!

    Felt it all around

by Clarkbar225 on 6/14/14Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Great sounds, WO killed it at the Newport. They went on around 9:10 and played for an hour or so. Crowd wasn't too into the show at first but Ernest got everyone to join in eventually. 'Get Up' had a nice hip-hop feel to it and 'Feel It All Around' was beautiful - very subdued and chill. Would go see them again sometime.

    sounds and lights

by mikey2010g on 6/14/14Newport Music Hall - Columbus

The pure sound of Washed Out is even more amazing live! The lights are arranged perfectly to the music and make you feel exactly the way each song was intended to! However, the opener (which usually the headliner does not choose), Wunder Wunder, was the worst thing I have ever made my ears listen to. Washed Out def made up for that pitfall.

    Wash out

by KevinRVA on 6/8/14The National - Richmond

Save your money and listen to this at home on your head phones. Watching performers who look they are programming with about as much passion was not worth my time.

It was truly the best concert I've ever been to. The vibe was great and the band was incredible. Not much else to say other than next time they're in town, I'll be going!

Washed Out was incredible, had a blast!

by jimmiecricket on 12/22/13The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Washed Out brings a sense of aw-inspiring music, and Ernest Greene (Washed Out) has set the stage for the chillwave movement and has taken it to a new level. Washed Out performance was great, they're music moves through your body and ignites your soul. I would like them to come back anytime. I just wish there was more people to enjoy the show with everyone that came.

Washed Out at the Electric Factory

by BillFrei on 12/16/13The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

THE most rapturously fabulous sound experience possible in this dimension. I CAN'T BELIEVE I actually managed to buy the ticket and drive to Philly for the show on Friday the 13th, the day I FOUND OUT about it.

The Washed Out show was amazing. Sitting in the seats was not as enjoyable, but there is plenty of seating and it seemed that moving to GA wasn't an issue either. The performance, lighting, and stage was incredible!

    Ethereal and absolutely unforgettably AMAZING

    by alexanderrxx57 on 9/24/13Wilbur Theatre - Boston

The venue was literally the perfect size; there were a lot of people but I felt like I had a ton of breathing room compared to other venues. The HVAC in the building was perfect and never during the entire concert was it ever too hot or cold. The opener (Haerts) seriously warmed the crowd up just the right amount and Washed Out blew my mind away entirely. I wasn't even intoxicated and it was incredible. The stage craft was my absolutely favorite part, closely seconded by the way the wooden floors of the Wilbur vibrated with the intense bass produced by the crystal clear speaker amplification systems. I'd definitely see Washed Out again, and I'd definitely go to the Wilbur for another show anytime.

All around a very good performance. Every band member was just on fire. If you can see them and have GA seats, highly recommended.

Awesome concert! I regretted my choice to get a seat rather than floor however there weren't any "bad" seats in the theater.

    Paracosm, indeed.

    by MarioA5 on 9/22/13Terminal 5 - New York

It was marvelous from start to finish. Haerts was an unexpected joy and proved that someday they'll be headlining. Washed Out was a miracle in sonic form.

    More than I expected

by Mevanm on 9/21/13Terminal 5 - New York

Firstly, i've never heard of Haerts, the opening band, until like a few days before the concert and they were amazing. An instant favorite. Washed Out was above amazing. It was my first time seeing them live and I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The vibe and atmosphere in the room was universal. We all felt it. Also, i got there a little before doors opened and still managed a spot in the front row but it got packed fast.

    Awesomeness

by Mahnster on 6/12/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

Even though I did not have the best spot in the house, I actually had the worst due to the fact I was way in back, I still had a blast! I was able to dance it up with my boyfriend.
