WARPAINT IN CONCERT:

All-girl psych-rockers Warpaint first entranced fans with their arty, eclectic brand of indie in 2004, and they've kept things fresh by adding new flourishes to their sound each step of the way. The group takes listeners on a journey in concert with their broad sonic palette, mixing it up with the searing dance floor groove of "Disco//Very," the hypnotic guitar arpeggios of "Keep It Healthy," and the psychedelic pop of "New Song." Their beautifully layered sound is thick with spacey echoes and swirling textures, and they cut through the mix with gang-sung melodies and irresistible rallying cries that match the propulsive beats. Warpaint deliver the perfect blend of genre-straddling experimentation and endearing stage presence, and ticket buyers can't help but get swept up in the group's immersive sets.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Many were celebrating romance on Valentine's Day in 2004, but the four founding members of Warpaint spent the day jamming instead. After years of gigging in LA, they released their 2008 debut EP Exquisite Corpse, which was mixed and mastered with help from Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. Original drummer Shannyn Sossamon left shortly thereafter to focus on her acting career, which had already netted her roles in the films A Knight's Tale and 40 Days and 40 Nights, and former Swahili Blonde drummer Stella Wozgawa slid behind the kit just in time for the band's 2009 tour with The xx. Warpaint released their full-length debut The Fool in late 2010 and continued to grow their fanbase the following year with well-received sets at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Glastonbury. The solidified lineup spent the next few years composing new material, and in 2014 they returned with a self-titled album that exhibited a new minimalist approach highlighted by keyboards and drum machines. After some time spent focusing on side projects, the group thrilled fans in 2016 with the announcement of their third album Heads Up, which they supported with the bubbly advance single "New Song." With critics and fans eager for more genre-bending music from the quartet, Warpaint continue to floor indie rockers with their energetic and unforgettable concerts.

Ladies who shred. Truly a great band with a flawless album and ep. Played all the vital songs, but mostly newer ones. Definitely catching them next time they come around

    The girls were amazing

I've seen warpaint before. But they were 100% on top of their game. The venue was perfect, sound was rich, but not overpowering .... And the band was entrancing. Not a lot of shows compare to warpaint at the Williamsburg hall of music.

    Warpaint was wonderful yet again!

by brook77 on 12/6/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Family band opened up for Warpaint and I thought they were really great. I am glad that I have been introduced to a new band. Rewards was good as well mixing their more dance rhythms with more earthy sounds. Finally, warpaint came on and their sound of sexy bass and melodic words filled the room. The new album is wonderful and I highly recommend giving them a listen if you have not done so yet.

WarPaint= Gorgeous damsels who need no rescue

by TheGreightGutsby on 12/6/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The venue is lets say Hipster area but never be hard to judge any group of people because youll always be surprised! Although the show started a little late, it was worth the wait as The Family band came on playing slow mellow rock but with an extra ingrediant: metal. It was an interesting combination. I was right there in front of the stage about 2 feet away from the singer and wow is the sound quality magic!!! Later came out the rewards which played dicso rock and engaged the crowd with humrous remarks. Yet what everyone wanted was Warpaint and when Stella came out the crowd roared. Soon came out Theresa, Jenny and Emily and it was on!!!!!! 1234 yelled Stella and they broke into "Bees". Did I mention these girls are gorgeous. They ended the original set with Elephants which is always amazing!!! Yet the crowd roared and Warpaint came back for an encore!!!!! They played 2 more songs!!!! What an amazing band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Another outstanding performance.

by SquintEastwood on 6/18/10The Knitting Factory - Brooklyn

They never seem to let me down. Every time I see them I fall a little bit more in love with their music. The jams, the vocals, Stellas drum solos. All too perfect to describe.

    Sherlock's Daughter also very good

by yuggy on 6/15/10Mercury Lounge - New York

Sherlock's Daughter who played before War Paint were also very good. They create some amazing live soundscapes and have excellent differentiation in terms of timbre. The songs also really go somewhere.

    A Rare Gem.

by SquintEastwood on 5/20/10Music Hall Of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

This band reminds me of no other band. Their constant tempo changes, haunting vocals, dreamy riffs, and unique but catchy drum beats make this band a must see for all. Before the show started, I asked around the lounge area who was here to see Warpaint, none replied yes. It seemed that everybody was there to see The Arkon Family (the headliner that night). However, when Warpaint came on. EVERYBODY was swaying back and forth, dancing, and clapping excessively at the end of each song. They earned the audiences trust with just one song. I have never seen so many people fall in love with a band they didn't know so quickly in my life. Warpaint skipped the awkward phase with the audience and went straight to the comfort level. In my opinion they out performed the headliner of the show. So in short, if your thinking about seeing them, you should. I guarantee you will be more than pleased with their performance.
