WAR IN CONCERT:
Chicano funk icons War rolled their way to fame in the early '70s with classic hits like "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?", and they've kept fans dancing ever since with their groovy, socially conscious jams. The group's roster has changed over the years, but founding member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan has remained a constant, and his familiar voice and jazzy keyboard licks continue to drive the band's fun-loving sets. The multi-ethnic lineup he's assembled stays true to the band's message of harmony and brotherhood, and their 2014 studio debut together – the first new War album in 20 years – proved they've got the musical chemistry to carry on the band's hallowed legacy. In concert they strike up the same funky, feel-good vibe that fueled War's rise to success in the '70s, and their party-starting blend of rubbery basslines, Latin percussion, and scorching saxophone always gets ticket buyers moving their feet.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
War formed in 1969 when famed producer Jerry Goldstein brought together former Animals singer Eric Burdon and a group of Long Beach, CA funk players he discovered at a North Hollywood club. The group started performing throughout Southern California as Eric Burdon and War, and in 1970 they released their debut album Eric Burdon Declares "War." Their first single "Spill the Wine" was a Top 3 hit on Billboard's Hot 100, making them stars overnight and leading to extensive touring. War was quickly hailed as one of the best live bands in the business, but Burdon left the group to pursue other projects a year later. Despite the sudden departure of their frontman, the best was yet to come for War – they dominated the R&B charts in the '70s with a string of No. 1 albums including The World is a Ghetto (1972), Deliver the Word (1973), and Why Can't We Be Friends (1975). The band remained a funk force to be reckoned with throughout the '80s and '90s, and in 2008 Burdon reunited with the group for the first time in 37 years for a one-off show at London's Royal Albert Hall. Since then founding member Lonnie Jordan has kept the music alive with a talented new lineup that made their studio debut on 2014's Evolutionary and continues to burn it up on tour.

They played for two (2) hours straight and it did not seem that long, they entertained me and the crowd the whole time.
WAR gave a great concert. the music took me back to the 70's and living in the Bay Area of California. I couldn't sit down for any real length of time and that goes for pretty much everyone that attended. the couple next to us attempted to dance but couldn't seem to find the right beat. still they, along with everyone i noticed, were having a great time. the music was perfectly selected and the group involved the audience in most every one of the songs they sang and played. i hope i have the chance to see them again soon. in one word: FANTASTIC.
After watching some of the recent YouTube videos my expectations were moderate at best. But they really blew me away. They could still hit all the high notes and the band was absolutely energizing.
I took my dad as a Father's Day gift; however, the show wound up being my gift. They were amazing. Kept you dancing in your seat or the aisles all night long. I will definitely see them everytime they come in town, especially if their at The Birchmere. Amazing, amazing, amazing!!!
the show was an excellent reminder of the old school music that will never be forgotten
This was my son's first concert experience; AWESOME! He is 19 years old and was not expecting to enjoy it along side his mother. Was he wrong! We had a great mother-son evening "bonding" and he was able to listen and enjoy music he grew up listening to because I always had them on. He related to it so much and enjoyed memories as each group performed.
Beautiful day - great music War -Tierra - Malo & El Chicano
I loved this concert. One of the best I've seen at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. Why can't we be friends, like we all were, back in the 70's? Thank you County Bowl for letting us old schooler's dance in the aisles! Good to see Mitch back home and in his groove.
The latin legends were totally awesome the best yet
4th concert. Loved everything about all of the groups Great time there with friends and family. Intend on going to the next one.
I have been going for about 2 years now for my wife's b-day and it's a show her and my self love it brings back good memories and the performance's are priceless, so we hope to go back next year by the way we invited family and friends to join us on this event and now our crowd is getting bigger for next year every one wants in on this event... but I wish that one day they would include Carlos Santana with them or the Lonely Boys too wow that would be the bomb....

The setting was ideallic as it always is at the Greek - The crowd was a joy to watch - Las Home Girls and the Vato Locos Styling & Profyling, everyone playing the part. Once the music began it just about brought a tear to my eye - what memories. Top Notch Performance by all of the Bands!!!

This concert was definitely a 5 star concert, all three bands were so amazing, it was well worth it, high five to 92.3 Hot for putting such a awesome concert. Such talented acts. I would pay to seem them again.
This year was my fourth year on a row attending the show and everytime I go it get's better. My friends and family had a blast. I hope they come back next year because we are so there!
Overall the concert was awsome. But War and Malo were excellent. Would love to see them again soon.
Tierra, El Chicano, and War put on their normal fantastic show. Malo however needs to realize that we're not paying to see his less talented son take the spotlight. If Malo is no longer up to doing shows, RETIRE, don't stick us with your kid.
