WAR IN CONCERT:
Chicano funk icons War rolled their way to fame in the early '70s with classic hits like "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?", and they've kept fans dancing ever since with their groovy, socially conscious jams. The group's roster has changed over the years, but founding member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan has remained a constant, and his familiar voice and jazzy keyboard licks continue to drive the band's fun-loving sets. The multi-ethnic lineup he's assembled stays true to the band's message of harmony and brotherhood, and their 2014 studio debut together – the first new War album in 20 years – proved they've got the musical chemistry to carry on the band's hallowed legacy. In concert they strike up the same funky, feel-good vibe that fueled War's rise to success in the '70s, and their party-starting blend of rubbery basslines, Latin percussion, and scorching saxophone always gets ticket buyers moving their feet.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
War formed in 1969 when famed producer Jerry Goldstein brought together former Animals singer Eric Burdon and a group of Long Beach, CA funk players he discovered at a North Hollywood club. The group started performing throughout Southern California as Eric Burdon and War, and in 1970 they released their debut album Eric Burdon Declares "War." Their first single "Spill the Wine" was a Top 3 hit on Billboard's Hot 100, making them stars overnight and leading to extensive touring. War was quickly hailed as one of the best live bands in the business, but Burdon left the group to pursue other projects a year later. Despite the sudden departure of their frontman, the best was yet to come for War – they dominated the R&B charts in the '70s with a string of No. 1 albums including The World is a Ghetto (1972), Deliver the Word (1973), and Why Can't We Be Friends (1975). The band remained a funk force to be reckoned with throughout the '80s and '90s, and in 2008 Burdon reunited with the group for the first time in 37 years for a one-off show at London's Royal Albert Hall. Since then founding member Lonnie Jordan has kept the music alive with a talented new lineup that made their studio debut on 2014's Evolutionary and continues to burn it up on tour.

I purchased a ticket to see "War" and they did not appear until 11pm!!! The ticket I purchased was for 7pm not 11pm! The 2 opening acts were just ok in my opinion. They walked around testing equipment for what seemed like hours...1-2,1-2,1-2,1-2 etc, etc, etc...which was very b-o-r-i-n-g! And then the music the openers played sounded all the same...I was very disappointed until WAR finally started playing...I was actually getting ready to leave
The Good - every member of WAR was FANTASTIC. The songs, music and jams were totally awesome!! I just loved them!! Their voices were spot on and the harmonica, sax, flute, guitar, bass and drums were to die for!! But the highlight of the evening was Lonnie Jordan on keyboards and lead vocals. Lonnie is a national treasure ... exciting, fun, funny and so personal. The Bad - the concert started very late and there were two (poor) opening acts. WAR did not take the stage until 11 pm. By then, I had been standing for 4 hours. I was only able to stay to listen to WAR for an hour because my legs were so tired. We left right after All Day Music. :(( The general admission standing tickets were horrible! I wish I had known to purchase the VIP seats. Standing up and waiting for the concert to begin and having to listen to two opening acts is too much to ask. I stood for a total of 5 hours ... not good for anyone.
The seats were great 5 rows in the middle from stage, GREAT!!!! The crowd was into it I have been here before several times and it seemed that it was the best...........
We had an great time my wife and I thinking about coming back for another..
Concert was amazing. Those guys still put it out even in they're sixties. Great show
Seems the times have been difficult these last few years, but the evening spent with the band paroled even the most driven. A really good break from tedium.
war singer talk to much about other stuff in the song they were playing and there to much introducing in the songs they need to just play the song we went to here they only played two real songs the rest of the songs were not there music i'm done with them i'll stick to there cd best song of the night was S0
Awesome concert! Almost 2 hours. Great sound - great jams. What can I say ... they still have IT! And, awesome new sax player!
This was a great show. We were on our feet for the entire show. The band showcased each memebers musical talent. All the old favorites, Sound system was really good.
The rain that kept the crowd down, kept the lines to a minimum. The food was outstanding, as usual. WAR seemed to drag out / fill the time / before getting to the hits that the crowd was waiting to hear. All in all, an A- for the day
WAR fans, this is NOT the real band WAR. It's a cover band using the stolen name of WAR, so they can profit off the WAR NAME, uninformed WAR fans and promoters, and the ORIGINAL artists of WAR who created WAR music. Learn the TRUTH and stop giving your WAR propers to hired hands, like I once did.
Great Concert. Tierra only played for about a half hour which sucked. My dad said they did the same thing the year before. WAR tore it up tho. The only down side was the stack parking they pile everyone into. Ridiculous. Not to mention the soft dirt in the area that we got stuck in. Everything was awesome but i would have to give the parking an F!
Although I enjoyed the concert, I'm really not a fan of the band wanting us to sign the song by ourselves. It takes away from the actual song and my enjoying the music. Everyone ends up sitting down and I like the continuous standing and dance and signing with the band. I also don't like the individual solos.
The concert was very good. Tierra was an unexpected suprise , and the Greek theater was well managed and security presence was there but not confining. Tierra played all they're hits and favorites , Tower of Power could have played more of they're other albums instead of just the "Back to Oakland" album and a lil' longer. War was a little disappointing. They did a little too much improvising , stretching out they're songs too much and changing the rythum and "FEEL" of they're hits! Overall......the concert was very GOOD and I would go again.
I got these tickets for my boyfriend because he LOVES WAR, Tower of Power and Tierra! I actually enjoyed the whole show even though that wasnt my choice of music. I really loved everything about the show! i would definetly return again!
When I found out about this concert I knew I wanted to attend. I grew up listening to War. I haven't seen them since my early 20's. I saw the date & my heart sanked because I already had other plans but I couldn't get this concert out of my head. I'm so happy I decided to give my tickets away for the other event. It was meant for me to be at this concert! I was not disappointed. War was awesome. I'm so glad I went. Tower of Power was a bonus! I've never seen them in concert. I love their music as well. Great Show. Old School is the way to go!!!!
all the bands were great, can't wait for the FUNK FEST.
I really enjoyed the concert WAR was the best I would have liked Tower of Power to play more from there Aint Stopping Us Now album
Super tight and crisp Tower of Power and very deep-enjoyable WAR, it was a great combination. Also, It's first time to listen to Tierra and we enjoyed very much.
