About

“A MAJOR MUSICAL. RICH, EPIC AND ENGROSSING. A CELEBRATION OF BROADWAY CRAFTSMANSHIP.” -The Washington Post

Two-time Tony Award-winning legends Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole join forces to portray the trailblazing cosmetic icons who built empires in a business world ruled by men.

From the creators of Grey Gardens and the director of Rent and Next to Normal, WAR PAINT tells the remarkable story of Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden—fierce rivals who defined 20th Century beauty. In creating an industry, they reinvented themselves and revolutionized how the world saw women.

    Excellent divas

by Texanreviewer on 9/17/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

The divas are the "go-to" for this show. Nice production for a somehow weak story.

More of a concert telling a story than a drama.

by Joinlex on 9/15/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

A must see for everyone! As a woman it is always wonderful to learn about pioneering women in business. This was a great historical story told with a delightful flair and wonderful soundtrack. I would go back with my daughter and her friends.

    warpaint

by Bailekin on 9/13/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

Patti Lupone and Christine Ebersol gave a wonderful performance. Props to Patti Lupone to having to sing and talk with the heavy accent of Helena Rubenstein. Never new these two women were so cut throat to each other especially in that time period. The last 15 minutes of the show was fabulous between the two women. The costuming was fabulous too.

    Fabulous!

by Cookgor on 9/13/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

Excellent show! Great acting, terrific choreography, wonderful songs..... Patti Lupone and Christine Ebersole put their heart into every moment. Loved the digs they gave each other (in character of course) as two women in heated competition.

The raw talent of the cast, especially Ms. LuPone and Ms. Ebersole, Make this show a must see.

    Fantastic!

by AnnMarieCar on 9/13/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

Don't miss it. Patti and Christine are so talented. Guaranteed enjoyment! And a tribute to the power of these two women in a time when women were not in the forefront in our country. Subtlety reveals unspoken social issues of the mid 20th century.

    Warpaint was wonderful!!

by DeeShru on 9/12/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole were amazing and perfect in their roles as Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden. The show was immensely entertaining and funny. And it was also historically educational as we watch the development of their empires and their fierce competition to be number one at any cost starting in the 1930's through to the 1960's with beautiful songs and gorgeous period clothing to help take us along their journey.

    Worth seeing icons

by NYCVisitor4Theatre on 9/10/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

The subject matter of this musical is fair at best (feels as though the main focus should be women in charge and less competition). Biggest problem with the show is Patty Lupone's accent ... you can understand about 50% of what she says and sings. Bottom line: It is worth seeing these two theatre icons.

    Entertaining

by mamanewsh on 9/9/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

Although based on reviews from friends I was hesitant to see this play. I always like to base my own opinions and this time I was right. The play was not only entertaining it was actually really good. Not only funny and dramatic the story line was great along with the acting of Patty and Christine singing. Ok so they are old but who cares they definitely pulled it off. Job well done ladies and yes if you ever wore Elizabeth Arden or Helena Rubenstein products go for it! We loved it!

    terrible!

by DianeMol on 9/9/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

What a disaster! Music was horrible and the story line so shallow! Supposedly about female empowerment?? It was about pettiness and dishonesty in business. I couldn't understand a word of the lyrics that Patti Lupone sang. I didn't give a whit about these characters. Left in middle of second act...

    Amazing Show!

by LoisZippy on 9/6/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

This was an incredible night at the theatre! The plot is very interesting, particularly to women. The music was good although there is not any particular stand out song. Great sets and costumes, of course. But what made it magical for me was to have the Peerless Patti Lupone & Christine Ebersole on the same stage! They are both very talented actors with powerhouse voices to boot! I do suggest you use the infrared headsets though because Patti speaks with an accent and while I had no problem understanding her some friends did. The headsets make it all clear and easier to understand, plus if you have any rude people around you who are talking you can turn the headset up to drown them out! Personally, I am a shusher but not everyone gets quiet. The headsets are free but you must leave valid ID for them to hold until you return them. I always tip a dollar per headset. Again, in my book this is a must see!

Patti LuPone & Christine Ebersole captivating!

by BrennaNicole on 9/5/17Nederlander Theatre - New York

A very interesting true story of 2 female cosmetic giants who started their rival companies in the 1920's, and the progression through the 1950's and beyond. If you can see this play with Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, it's not to be missed!!
