So rad seeing 2 legends in a such a small place

by Nelmsy on 1/26/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Seeing rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson and Jack White with a full band in a small venue was quite the treat. I'm sure they will be playing bigger venues soon so definitely go check them out.

    72 and still got it!

by Obimikejr on 1/25/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Even being backed up by the ever amazing Jack White, the 72 year old Jackson held her own and more. Her voice sounded as good as ever on classics such as "Fujiyama Mama" and "Let's Have a Party" but the highlights of the show were the sonic covers of Johnny Cash's "Busted" and Elvis's "Heartbreak Hotel" complete with crushing solo's by White. Most impressive, was how well the two (White and Jackson) played off of one another. One might have expected Wanda to get lost behind the relentless guitar attack that Jack usually brings or rather for Jackson's style to be so dominating that White merely faded to the background. Fortunately for the sold out crowd at the El Ray, neither of those things happened. White's guitar respectfully and beautifully accompanied Jackson's soprano until it was time to let loose a solo which, as always, was something to behold. In all, if you're a rock and roll fan of any age (I saw a couple with walkers in the audience), it was night to be remembered and those who passed up the chance to see a legend play with one in the making should be remiss that they didn't pay the modest $28 to see a one of a kind show.

wanda jackson, jack white tear the el rey down

by hhillsbill on 1/25/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

jack white rolled through L A and conquered it again. this time as bandleader and lead guitarist backing rockabilly legend wanda jackson. jackson and her 11 piece band ripped through a 75 minute set of covers, originals and even an amy winehouse song.unfortunately left out of the set was her cover of bob dylan's thunder on the mountain, but maybe they'll get arount to it if they return this summer as rumoured. the venue was great and the crowd was lively and loud . by shows end everyone was shaking all over.

    Jack shreds

by mwright on 1/25/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Amazing performances by Wanda, Jack & the band. That Ms. Jackson could hang vocally with Jack and his band at her age was nothing short of miraculous. There were times her voice was a little off pitch, but overall she was an inspiration. Jack and the band were amazingly tight... A bit overpowering at times but in a good way. Their rendition of "Nervous Breakdown" was unforgettable. I hope she can survive the tour.

    fun show...very unique

by MrAlex on 1/25/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I didn't really have a clue who Wanda Jackson was but I am a fan of Jack White so I figured this would be an interesting show. I'd get to see Jack do some great guitar playing in an intimate venue. The show met my expectations. I'm not into rockabilly at all, but I like to think of myself as very open minded when it comes to music. I collect live music experiences instead of things, and I had a fine time. This wasn't an incredible experience but i'm glad i went. Wanda was very charismatic on stage.

    Wanda & Jack

by TaroThomas on 1/25/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

This show was pretty incredible! Again JW doing something totally out of the ordinary. Wanda Jackson, at 73 years old, has still got an amazing voice. It is a bit of her classic songs with new beats and guitar, mixed in with a couple of JW's song writing and music writing skills. Something unbelievable will come out of this for Jack and I can't wait!!

'The Party Ain't Over' for Wanda Jackson

by AngeloftheWaters on 1/24/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The Queen of Rockabilly has not lost her sense of humor, style or musical talents. And there's something to be said about your stature when being backed by a band featuring Jack White on guitar and a horn section that requires you to dance along to every song! The Third Man House Band held together by musical cues from Wanda and Jack made this night more fun than one could think possible. Stood in the bitter cold for over an hour outside the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn New York, but once inside-the cold temperatures turned to dancing that warmed the soul from the inside out. Guitar riffs that would melt faces. Witty commentary from Wanda herself. "Cupcakes" doing back up vox and dancing. It was a blast to the past with a most modern twist. An experience that left the entire crowd begging for more at the end of the hour long set... we all wanted more, but that's just the way it is. The entire band made eye contact with the audience while wearing black suits and fuschia shirts. Wanda shook a few hands, and during a song calling boys 'rascals' she leaned over and scruffed the top of a boy's hair, we all smiled hugely. Jack White shared smirks and laughs and lead the band in 4 counts and laughed at himself while swirling around Olivia and tearing up the floor with his patent leather black and white shoes. It was one of those nights where you knew you were lucky to be among the sold out crowd and even luckier to be a true participant in the audience. It felt like one huge Party... and wasn't that the point?! I think so, in other words- mission accomplished. We wanted to keep the party going. So happy to have attended and shared this night with so many fans.

HOLY CRAP. This was one of the best shows I ever saw. Thanks so much to Jack White for bringing Wanda out of obscurity and producing such a wonderful record with her.
