ARSENIC AND OLD LACE is one of the American theatre's funniest comedies. Drama critic Mortimer Brewster is engaged to the lovely Elaine Harper... but will she fit in with his 'unusual' family? Abby and Martha Brewster are known throughout Brooklyn for their many acts of kindness and charity. But Mortimer has just learned that his charming spinster aunts have taken to relieving the loneliness of old men by inviting them in for a nice glass of home-made elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and "just a pinch" of cyanide! What else can go wrong? Their brother believes that he's Teddy Roosevelt! Don't miss our 75th Anniversary production of the classic madcap comedy ARSENIC AND OLD LACE.
It was a very good play with very good performance. I recommend it. The decorations were also very nice.
The play was worth seeing if only for the two little old ladies. The actor who played Mortimer has a lot to learn about comedy.
As Teddy Roosevelt would say, this production was ..... DEEEElightful!!! Kudos to everyone on stage AND behind the curtains.........(special applause to the set director for scenery that evoked gentility, mixed with mayhem).
The show itself was amazing! comical & so enjoyable! The actors were fabulous & the stage/set was beautiful! It felt like we were sitting righ in the living room The only negative thing I can post is the uncomfortable seats! They are small, hard & very close to each other so I kept fidgeting & being bumped by my neighbor. If you are over weight it can be a very long 3 hr show! The theater would greatly benefit if they replaced all the seats & made them a bit larger & added more padding...then the experience would have 5+ stars Also the intermission was 1.5 hrs into the show & the show ended approximately 30 min after intermission. It just seemed like a waste to even have the intermission since we left soon after.
Having only seen the screen version of the play, I was very interested in seeing it on stage. Comparisons were inevitable. The Brewster sisters were perfect. Teddy was very good, but not loud enough while "Charging." The problem was impossible to correct because he faced away from the audience. Although the facial expressions of Mortimer were very good, the movie again had the advantage of close-ups for the facial contortions. A wonderful show! Of course we will be back for other plays, but not as subscribers.
Play was fun and exciting, great actors. Enjoyed the night thoroughly.
The acting was supreme. The costumes and stage design were attractive.
Loved the play. Laughed a lot and could hear every word! Usually I miss half of everything that's said, but not this time! Cast was excellent. Seats couldn't have been better!
THe show was good, I enjoyed it. Just about what I expected it to be.
It was a great time. The actors kept things moving along and very funny. The set looked good too.
