The Adventure of the Speckled Band expertly melded a well-crafted Sherlock Holmes mysterious with tongue-in-cheek humor that had the audience enrapt and laughing throughout.
The play was a ton of fun. The actors were very talented I was amazed at how they went from character to character seemlessly. They presented the different personalities so well that some times I had trouble figuring out it was the same actor. The story was great and it made for an enjoyable evening.
Not the best Sherlock Holmes play we’ve seen. Nice venue but the play was somewhat disappointing.
I really loved the show!! The play was well written and funny. The actors were great and really made the play. I high recommend this play to anyone who loves comedy and Sherlock Holmes.
The Adventure of The Speckled Band, at the Walnut Theater in Philly created a set, the likes of, I have never seen before! It was a feast for the eyes. We were up in the balcony, and for some reason, they didn't mike the actors, so it was hard to hear some of the actors. The play is delightfully funny, a surprise for a Sherlock Holmes event. Unfortunately, to achieve that result, they dumbed down the mystery, so there was no suspense, and Sherlock was a bit silly, instead of that stern, curt but always right character we've come to love. So come for an enjoyable bit of fluff, and then go and read the original to get the impact and suspense that is missing here.
We had very good seats. The show started on time. It moved well and I could follow the storyline. I look forward to our next visit to the Walnut Street Theater.
The play is entertaining, though for a Sherlock Holmes mystery there is very little of Sherlock to be seen! The actors do an admirable job of quick changes, wigs, mustaches and scarves to embody several characters each. Sadly our biggest complaint is NOT onstage but in the seats--at our performance, during the first Act, at least 7 different cell phones rang. Not the WST fault, because they make announcements, but how people are so clueless is beyond me.
We are in are 30s and really enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes play. There was a perfect level of humor and the general feel of the play felt true to the core of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. I would recommend to anyone who really enjoys Sherlock Holmes.
We especially enjoyed all the wardrobe changes. Very slick! It was fun figuring out who the actors were in their different roles. Our first theater experience since the pandemic. And an excellent choice.
