    The Buddy Holly Story

by frankengr on 7/23/12Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Started a little slow but caught fire when they played the Apollo. The second Act was great. Enjoyed the show a lot. The women that sang the solo and then played the violin at the end was a fantastic talent. Her stage presence, energy, etc. was unbelievable and she played 'big' to the entire house. Her smile lit up the place. Might want to disguise the members that play more than one part, a little, so it is not so obvious that it takes away from the flow of the play. Overall, they all did a great job and had me tapping my feet all night.

    wonderful

the lead actor puts his heart and soul into his performance as do many of the others. I particularly liked the female MC from the Apollo Theater and her companions - they had star power and the actor/singer who played Ricky Valance I love the music even though it was before my time ad it is a poignant story like that of so many other singers who lost their lives too young. The lead had the right vulnerability to play the role - slightly nerdy, sensitive and hyper

    BUDDY HOLLY WAS FABULOUS

by Taxdefender on 7/23/12Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Best musical I've seen in a long, long time. And unlike some of this ilk - Momma Mia, Movin' Out - it had a plot and a story line.

    Buddy Holly was THE BEST!

by MBCPhillips123 on 7/23/12Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story was the best musical theatre I've seen in 50 years - and I've seen it all! You've heard of triple threats on stage? Well, this ensemble were quadruple threats because they could act, sing, dance AND play their own instruments - all brilliantly! Great drama, as the writing was so very good, too!

    Buddy Holly Story

by Janher on 7/23/12Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

The show was fantastic, singing and acting was great! I did think though that it was going to be the entire story of Buddy Holly, not just his singing career after he was already playing with the Crickets.

Although I love the music, it was too loud for me. I had to wear earplugs during the whole performance. It was great to see the actors/ musicians on stage- easier to appreciate their talents up close. The acting tended towards the hammy side- perhaps for comic effect? Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

    Buddy still lives

by JMike08 on 7/22/12Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Buddy Holly at Walnut is an amazing experience. We were fortunate enough to be in the center seats of the first row and at times it felt like Buddy was still alive. The singing, music and acting by the cast was exceptional. The actors playing Buddy and Maria Elena are in life a married couple and their passion for one another and their art shone through. The whole cast was great but special mention of the Ritchie Valens portrayal.

I saw the show and had to bring my husband and friends, so I went a second time. It was truly entertaining. Even if it wasn't your music, you will still enjoy it.

    Buddy Holly Story

by dianne24 on 7/20/12Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

This was an upbeat show very high engergy. It has humor, but the best part of course was the music. This show will have you dancing in your seat, and in the end dancing in aisle. I would recommend to anyone who has the chance to see this show. You will not be sorry. An p.m. well spent.
