Wallows on Tour

Catchy, whip-smart and unabashedly cool, Wallows make rock music on their own terms — but everyone is invited to the party. The trio caught global attention when their single "Pictures of Girls" hit the Billboard Top 40 in 2018, bolstered by singer/guitarist/actor Dylan Minnette's starring role in the Netflix breakout drama 13 Reasons Why. On the heels of their 2019 full-length release, Nothing Happens on Atlantic Records, Wallows embarked on a UK tour after kicking things off at The Fonda in their hometown of Los Angeles. Although the band have been playing live shows in various incarnations for years, including a 2011 Warped Tour slot when the guys were literally just kids, Wallows is their calling card to the world. As witnessed at Coachella 2019, Wallows bring their spiky, synth-laden odes to millennial ennui and conflicted romance to life with fuzzy guitars, boundless energy and the strength to find joy in turbulent times.

Wallows in Concert

Wallows were born out of a music class where three 11-year-old friends — Minnette, singer/guitarist and actor Braeden Lemasters and drummer Cole Preston — discovered a shared love for upbeat indie pop fused with topical laments and biting humor. Nothing Happens is a melting pot of not-too-distant influences, including vocal hints of The Strokes and Vampire Weekend. They also evoke the dreamy bedroom synth of Clairo, who showed up as guests on "Are You Bored Yet" (the single that garnered the band another Billboard Top 40 hit). As the trio grew together (literally and figuratively) the acting duo of Minnette and Lemasters balanced their two creative outlets, never viewing Wallows as a mere side project. Both grew up child actors, with Lemasters best remembered for his role on Men of a Certain Age and Betrayal, while Minnette appeared in Grey's Anatomy before landing in 13 Reasons Why.

For their debut LP, Nothing Happens, Wallows brought in production ace John Congleton, who has also helped shape sonically adventurous work from St. Vincent and Sharon Van Etten. For a debut, the album feels lived-in and mature, with a punk pulse beating under the shimmering, melodic surface.

Over the source of their career, Wallows has played venues such as the Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, the Vic Theatre in Chicago, and Terminal 5 in NYC.

    The Best Day Ever:(

by Madison ( Braedens Bff) on 9/11/19Newport Music Hall - Columbus

When we first got to the venue there were two lines, one for GA and one for VIP. Both lines were really organized and everyone was open to helping people find where they wanted to go. When VIP were let inside the guys played a few songs and then they did a mini Q & A. After that we got to meet the boys and get a pic with them. They were soooooo nice like rlly rlly super nice and made sure nobody felt nervous. After the pic we got signed posters and a disposable camera to take pictures with during the show. The concert itself was amazing, they sounded just like they do on the album and their stage presence was awesome too. They were rlly talented and nice and this concert made me love them even more<3

Great band, venue and crowd not so much

by Maggie on 9/10/19Newport Music Hall - Columbus

I just recently attended the Columbus, OH show that Wallows put on. The bands were great and sounded great live, great stage presence. However when I pulled up out front about 6pm for the 7:30pm show, that’s where the trouble started. I parked in the parking garage thinking we had some time to go to some local shops before the show and get a bite to eat, boy was I wrong. There was a line of teenage girls lined up all the way to urban outfitters upon my arrival. With this being a general admission show I suggested we go ahead and line up too. With all the road construction going on, there were some barricades close to where urban outfitters and Starbucks is. At that point is where the line began to curve around the block. There should have been event staff or police helping to contain the line, because many businesses were blocked, and lots of kids wanted to block the whole sidewalk. Then another separate line started forming because of how crowded it was, no one could tell where the end of the line was. We didn’t actually get thru the doors til after 8pm because of how slow moving the line was. This was due to the added security (which I appreciate) but it was more than obvious the staff working the metal detectors was not properly trained. There was no one directing traffic just yells from staff members to “keep moving” whatever that meant. Then the merch tables were right by the metal detectors, which started another build up. As good as the band was, I probably won’t attend another Wallows concert unless it was at a larger venue. There was no moving anywhere once you got inside. It was just a little comfortable for me being a 23 year old woman, to be around kids I’m guessing from the ages 12-17. Great music, their fan base has a lot of kids through probably due to the fact they are a band with all early 20’s men and the lead singer is a famous actor for teen related shows and movies. There was also a huge mess trying to leave the venue, we left during their encore songs to get a head start on the parking garage, and all of the sidewalks were blocked by the huge party going on outside. So we had to walk in the street to get down the road to the cross walk.

    Solid Show

    by jasonmelohall on 8/13/19

They enjoy being on stage and played all fun songs. Its good to see different people sing. I think they could work a bit on getting the crowd to move, but overall a good time.

This has been one of my favourite shows in the past couple of years. Really talented band and great audience interaction. The light show was designed really well and the overall performance was so good. Nothing but good things to say about Wallows Live. Great show!!!!

    WALLOWS - unforgettable concert

by Shea on 5/20/19Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Wallows is not just a band you can enjoy and respect musically but also by how they treat their team and fans. I bought the VIP package for 2 of their concerts and both were unique and fully entertaining. Wallows really used this package to demonstrate their appreciation to fans. The package included a signed poster, a hard plastic VIP pass and lanyard, a disposal camera, a 3 song acoustic session of songs that weren’t played during the concert, a quick Q&A session and a meet and greet photo opportunity. During the photo part the guys took their time greeting fans and posed with them like friends. Each of the guys were friendly and engaging and genuinely happy to meet each and every fan. I also loved how the photo was taken on each fan’s phone so you instantly had it once it was taken. The opener for the east coast concerts was Joy Again and this band delivered each set, every song. Great choice of opener because they have great stage presence and show how much they enjoy playing together. Joy Again brought the energy and started the concert on the right foot. Great choice for opener because fans who love wallows will be pleased to hear Joy Again who match the music taste of Wallows by still having a unique and “their own” sound. The Wallows setlist was great and changed slightly from concert to concert. The band played their entire debut album and brought in some of their much loved older tracks as well. The energy was amazing from the crowd and the band. You could see how they don’t just play their music but feel every second of it every song. Their stage presence is real and captivating. A must see, must participate event. The concert was unforgettable and movie scene worthy. Wallows is amazing and only have more incredible things to accomplish.

    AMAZING

by Emma on 5/13/19Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Litterally so good. I couldn’t have asked for anything better, I feel I got the most out of my money. They are FANTASTIC performers and I can tell they put their hearts into it. At my show they played so many good songs including Sun Tan my favorite which is the first one I ever heard over a year ago, and it’s so special to me for that reason. The venue Paradise Rock Club was also great I was on a balcony type part since I’m short and wouldn’t be able to see and I still felt so included in the experience. If I could I would have seen them multiple times. Wallows are an amazing band and gave me the best experience I could have asked for.

    Wallows at Paradise Rock Club

by Ali on 5/13/19Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Great performance. Light shining on Dylan Minnette’s face from the side was distracting and made it difficult to see his face.

    Definitely needs improvement

by Adrianna on 5/2/19The Fillmore - San Francisco

First, we got VIP tickets. In the email it told us to be there by 6 or there was a chance we wouldn’t be allowed into venue so we arrived early, we didn’t get in until 7:30. Then the information on the tickets said each ticket allowed a M & G and a photo op but at the venue the staff said we had to take group photos with whoever we arrived with which in my opinion is false advertisement for the price we paid for each ticket. The openers didn’t arrive on stage until around 9:00pm and they ended at 9:40. The wallows didn’t get on stage until 10:10 and by then we’ve been standing over 4 hours straight. The show itself was magnificent very upbeat and fun but I was so tired from the waiting and the constant standing that I just wanted it to be over. The band themselves are unique and definitely worth seeing I just think they could use better planning and friendlier staff.

    vip experience

by eva on 4/30/19The Fillmore - San Francisco

this was easily the best concert ive ever been to, compared to 30+ others ive seen so far. the vip package comes with so much value. the guys have the best stage presence and include everyone in the show, no matter where youre standing. the guys are super nice, their staff is amazing, and everything was well organized. one of the only artists that actually sound better live than in studio. now im just stuck waiting for them to tour again to SF. it you get the chance, i highly recommend going!!
