About

In the annals of 21st century alternative rock history there are few artists who cast a longer or more peculiar shadow than Finnish Love Metal pioneer Ville Valo. After all, his band HIM were easily among the most iconic and idiosyncratic groups of the millenium. Zealously revered, gleefully reviled but impossible to ignore, their music left an indelible mark on a worldwide legion of fans. The scarlet letters stood for His Infernal Majesty. Their founder stood for something delightedly out of step with the status quo.Ā

"We only hoped to temporarily redirect hard rock's blood flow from the nether regions towards the heart", reminisces Ville Valo, the singer, songwriter and primus motor of HIM. Judging by the monolithic presence of the Heartagram in any account of music this side of the millennium it's apparent that he succeeded.Ā

Inspired by everyone from Poe to Bukowski and tinged by a penchant for perfumed Sabbathian gloom, Valo's creative lovechild would produce eight era-defining studio releases and over ten million record sales, not forgetting a Grammy nomination, countless magazine covers, critical acclaim, and the veneration of a generation. Thus it came as no surprise that the news of a farewell tour in 2017 was greeted with shock and disbelief among devotees and endless speculation as to what or who was to take up the velvet mantle.

"As fun as the funeral rites for HIM were, it took me more than a few moons to lick my wounds in the shadow of the Heartagram and come up with an excuse to strum and hum again. Eventually I decided put a leash on my beloved black dog and we started howling together instead of barking at each other. That's how Loveletting was born".

Loveletting, the first single off VV's debut album 'Neon Noir' out in early 2023, suggests this new infernal mix of light and shade is nothing short of a landmark release from one of modern music's most distinctive and intriguing voices. It belongs to the same forlorn world of woe and whimsy once conceived and governed by Valo in HIM, but with the nuanced notes of a fine aged Cabernet.

"Artistically speaking the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the Heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is! It's the Mamas and the Papas dressed up as Metallica on their way to a Halloween bash at the Studio 54, and now who wouldn't want to witness that?"

Throughout their career, VV has drawn massive crowds of fans, packing venues like Theatre of Living Arts, the Depot and Summit to capacity.

Bought these tickets as a gift for my husbands birthday and he had the best time. His two best friends came with us and HIM is their favorite band so seeing Ville Valo was perfect! We found a space to stand the whole concert and we could see everything really clear! Perfect concert! Music was amazing and Ville Valo literally has impeccable range! So grateful for this experience!

I hadn’t listened to much HIM, but I heard the new VV stuff and thought it was awesome so I went on a whim. The band sounded incredible, amazingly tight and excellent visually. Absolutely worth going to see.

Big Night was a great venue. I had VIP table which made the experience better, was right next to stage. VV was amazing and beautiful. My only complaint was I didn't get the opportunity to meet VV.

  • Amazing to see!

by Samarah on 4/5/23Big Night Live - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I was so excited to get a chance to see Ville perform! I missed every opportunity prior when his band HIM was touring. Wonderful mix of his newest solo album & some of his older music. The opening act KƦlan Mikla is absolutely incredible too.

Great venue once inside and amazing performance from Ville. Waiting outside in the cold was a bit of a pain and I wish they had a better system for scanning tickets and going through security but it’s understandable as it is a smaller venue. Still had a great time thank you!

The weather wasn’t the greatest that night it was a rainy mess but I can tell you one thing growing up listening to HIM since I was about 12 and I am 31 now I love the change and switch between his solo music and HIMs I am grateful I never got to see them before I have not been too a lot of concerts but to see ville valo perform was a big part of my list his music is something I love since the beginning

  • Love Metal is alive!

by Van on 4/4/23Theatre of Living Arts - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was a perfect combination of new Ville Valo and old/classic HIM material. Valo's soulful voice hasn't aged and he sounds incredible. Fans are in for a treat in the Neon Noir tour.

  • This venue is a rip-off

by Sad puppy on 4/4/23Theatre of Living Arts - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

The artist VV is phenomenal. This negative review is for the venue. This venue needs to be updated because it is poorly distributed. This is the first venue I have visited where you pay for an event and are not guaranteed visibility of the stage. I basically had to use my ears and imagination in order to enjoy the show. The show was sold out and there was no place to stand where the artist could be seen unless you were fortunate to be near the stage. The 2nd floor has limited seating and the balcony was completely flooded with people with no room for visibility. If anything, there should be a ticket limit for performances in order for all attendees to be able to watch the show.

Ville Valo is one of the greatest vocalists of all time, and his music is just terrific. I love his work with HIM, and his solo project is just as much a full sensory experience. It was the first show I’ve ever been to that moved me to tears, the music is such a beautiful expression of life and love. Would recommend to anyone who’s looking for a new way to feel alive šŸ–¤

  • Best day of my life!!

by Ville’s future wife on 4/4/23Theatre of Living Arts - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve been waiting 17yrs to see this perfect, god like man and it was worth it I can’t wait to go again in May

  • Wonderful show, not good for shorter people

by Phoebe on 4/4/23Theatre of Living Arts - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Obviously Ville was wonderful, as well as the opening group, but I did struggle to see quite a lot. It feels like you have to be early on line or get the fast pass if you want to be able to see really well the whole time. It is a nice venue and it was still a great show, just not always compatible for shorter people.

  • VV still got it!

by VVFanatic on 4/4/23Theatre of Living Arts - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing!!! Actually got me to purchase more tickets for the tour! VV looked and sounded amazing! Venue was an intimate nice size with a good vibe and view of the stage from any location. Amazing! Would definitely see him here again! I hope to have the chance!

  • It was great, I've loved Ville since I was 15 years old.

I know every song and all the words, even the songs in Finnish. I was probably one of the only brown people there but I still had agreat time, most the people were super nice. I was happy to have marked something off my bucket list. Ville Valo!!!!!! I wish I could have gotten an autograph
