About

In the annals of 21st century alternative rock history there are few artists who cast a longer or more peculiar shadow than Finnish Love Metal pioneer Ville Valo. After all, his band HIM were easily among the most iconic and idiosyncratic groups of the millenium. Zealously revered, gleefully reviled but impossible to ignore, their music left an indelible mark on a worldwide legion of fans. The scarlet letters stood for His Infernal Majesty. Their founder stood for something delightedly out of step with the status quo.

"We only hoped to temporarily redirect hard rock's blood flow from the nether regions towards the heart", reminisces Ville Valo, the singer, songwriter and primus motor of HIM. Judging by the monolithic presence of the Heartagram in any account of music this side of the millennium it's apparent that he succeeded.

Inspired by everyone from Poe to Bukowski and tinged by a penchant for perfumed Sabbathian gloom, Valo's creative lovechild would produce eight era-defining studio releases and over ten million record sales, not forgetting a Grammy nomination, countless magazine covers, critical acclaim, and the veneration of a generation. Thus it came as no surprise that the news of a farewell tour in 2017 was greeted with shock and disbelief among devotees and endless speculation as to what or who was to take up the velvet mantle.

"As fun as the funeral rites for HIM were, it took me more than a few moons to lick my wounds in the shadow of the Heartagram and come up with an excuse to strum and hum again. Eventually I decided put a leash on my beloved black dog and we started howling together instead of barking at each other. That's how Loveletting was born".

Loveletting, the first single off VV's debut album 'Neon Noir' out in early 2023, suggests this new infernal mix of light and shade is nothing short of a landmark release from one of modern music's most distinctive and intriguing voices. It belongs to the same forlorn world of woe and whimsy once conceived and governed by Valo in HIM, but with the nuanced notes of a fine aged Cabernet.

"Artistically speaking the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the Heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is! It's the Mamas and the Papas dressed up as Metallica on their way to a Halloween bash at the Studio 54, and now who wouldn't want to witness that?"

Throughout their career, VV has drawn massive crowds of fans, packing venues like Theatre of Living Arts, the Depot and Summit to capacity.

I still cannot get over how absolutely perfect our guys sound live. I have been to other concerts by other bands and they were nowhere near sounding like their CDs. But HIM always sound even better. Please go to this concert dear sweet people out there because you will NOT be disappointed. It is well worth the cost of the ticket and will give you memories to cherish the rest of your life.

HIM is my favorite band in the whole wide world and this is the 2nd time I've seen them live...and they are just as amazing as ever! Ville Valo's voice is simply just beautiful. <3 I highly recommend seeing them in concert! The only thing I am disappointed in is I wish they would've played more songs this time around but other than that, the show was great. :)

  • Freakin Awesome

Great concert, awesome stage presence, great light show. However, Ville Valo walked off stage at one point during Wicked Game for literally 5 minutes... Not sure what was going down, but the band looked confused and had to jam until he decided to come back. Love the guy to freaking death, but no matter how famous you are, no one should treat their fans or fellow band mates like that. (The band carries the music...) However, when on stage he was hilarious in between songs, and might as well have been doing stand-up. Great sense of humor and irony. Overall, awesome experience. However, the only thing keeping it from a 5 star rating is, of course, the strange departure in the middle of the show; it just left the audience and band uncomfortable, especially in one of their most iconic songs.

  • Great show,awesome lighting!!!

  • What can I say? It was HIM, I'm happy.

by AshleyElaine on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The opening bands were alright. Drive A was the first band, I enjoyed them up until the third song, they kinda lost me there. It seemed like one continuous song. The next band, Dommin (?) was great! One of the guys I was with went straight to the merch booth as soon as their last song was over, he met the band, said they were awesome to talk to and bought a cd. Had I had the cash to do so, I absolutely would have bought a cd! They definitely gained four new fans after last night! We Are the Fallen. Sigh. I wanted to get into this band. I wanted to love the music. I did. I liked the first song. After that, it sounded, again, like one continous song. Her voice got quite annoying after about five minutes and towards the end it sounded as though she was straining to sing. I will say this about all of the opening bands: They had amazing energy! They all truly looked like they were happy to be there, and I loved that about all of them! HIM was amazing. Maybe I'm just saying that because I am such a huge fan and this is the second time I've seen them live. Ville was quite chatty all throughout the show, which was awesome. He and Mige were goofing off all throughout the show, which I thought was adorable! It shows they really are comfortable with each other! I love that! The entire band played wonderfully. Gas was amazing on drums, he was really into it. Linde, of course, was beyond amazing. And Mige was great! Ville sang beautifully. I absolutely love that they got the crowd all pysched up and then came out to do Rebel Yell. That was amazing. I've always wanted to see them do that song live and now I have. :D By the end of the evening I had forgotten all about the not so great opening acts and was just so happy that I had gotten to see my favorite band live again. They put on a great show, and I can honestly say that everytime HIM comes within driving distance to me, I'll be in the crowd watching!!!

  • HIM Rules!!!

by DarkestLeader on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

All the bands were awesome. I wasn't too big on 'We Are The Fallen' though. Top band was HIM, obviously, then Dommin, then Drive A.

The 3 bands before Him; Drive A, Dommin, We are the Fallen, were brutal. I hate to say it, but Ville could have done better.

  • Ville was different.

by Cinnyrose on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

We drove from Alabama to Atlanta to see H.I.M. The concert at The Tabernacle was better (4 yrs. ago?)... The music was great except for the opening band...their name escapes me; just know they were a terrible punk band. Dommin was amazing too. Nice surprise! We Are The Fallen was just as hot! Very much like Evanescence. Anyway, I like the small venues...and apparently so does Ville. Noticed Ville didn't smoke during the concert. Good for H.I.M.! Would like them to be a bit more personable as they were at the Tabernacle. Love 'em!

  • I want my money back!

by bellabooboo on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

I can't even believe I'm saying this, but - HIM have always been my favorite band. I've traveled all over the country seeing them... NY, LA, Chicago, etc. Now I no longer want to drive to Atlanta, 1 hour away, to see them. Ville talked for what seemed like the entire time. He honestly seemed bored. Once he even left the stage for probably 5 or 10 minutes, why?? I was very disappointed. If you're that bored, find a new job! I'm being honest when I say this was probably the worst concert (not just HIM, ANY concert) I've ever been too. I want my $40 back! The only redeeming quality about the entire show was the band's cover of Rebel Yell. Haven't heard them perform it live yet so that was nice. Bands should never take their fans for granted - just sayin'!!

  • Ville is always so amazing

  • HIM & Guests Rocked It!

    by Jmeister1000 on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I love this venue (Center Stage) - very intimate. Every band brought their A game. Dommin, We Are The Fallen, and HIM - Great muscianship, great singers every one. And each band's music complemented the other's. Sound system was kickin. Great low end, but not too loud and you could hear every instrument. Very good job!

  • Him Was AWESOME!

The whole show rocked! Thanks for the great show last night HIM, Drive A, Dommin and We are the fallen.

  • HIM rocked my SOCKS!

by MusicDork on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Their show on 5/3/10 and it was awesome! The band sounded awesome, and Ville still has his amazing live voice. I really liked this band, but it wasn't until I saw them live that I fell in love with them. They sound the same on CD and live. This show was no exception. The only negative thing about the concert was some annoying, drunk fans, but that what a concert is all about so whatevs. I have seen HIM live about 8 times, and this was the second best concert I've seen. (The first was when I put my hands in a heart above my head, Ville saw and said "I love you." That's pretty hard to beat.)

  • by Anonymous on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

HIM sounded amazing live. They were very humors as well. Played an amazing set list and is defiantly someone I plan on seeing again. Drive A was amazing as usual!

This was my 5th time seeing them and they never fail to impress me! They're the greatest band on earth and the music is alwaysssss amazing! The venue was nice too, with so many people there, it wasn't too uncomfortable.

  • H.I.M. fails to amaze

by ragnarocker on 5/4/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

The band was great but Ville Valo seemed distracted, and heavily medicated. He slurred his way through the typical set, interjecting between every song with an illegible 5minute talk about nothing. He even mentioned that he was "bored". Gee thanks. Nothing says $50 like being insulted by a eurotrash buffoon.

  • HIM ATL Concert

HIM gave an outstanding performance. I enjoyed the sometimes comical interaction that Veil had with the audience.
