About

Virgil Abloh In Concert

How often do you get to see a DJ set from an artistic director of Louis Vuitton? To be fair, though, Abloh's not a fashion guy dabbling in music. He's been DJing for two decades, having come up in Chicago's hip-hop club scene — though the longtime Kanye West collaborator's stages are significantly bigger these days.

In 2016, Abloh played to a packed Madison Square Garden for the premiere of West's ‘The Life of Pablo' album and his Yeezy Season 3 fashion line. Abloh has DJ'd worldwide under his Flat White moniker, playing an unpredictable mix of rap, grime, and underground house and techno. The locations of his sets are just as varied: from Brooklyn's MoMA PS1 in 2016 to Odd Future's Camp Flog Gnaw stage and the EDM-filled HARD Summer festival in 2018.

Virgil Abloh Background

There's no better example of a thoroughly modern Renaissance man than Virgil Abloh, a guy who's mastered more creative mediums than you probably knew existed. Abloh was raised by Ghanaian immigrant parents in Rockford, Illinois; he went to college for engineering and grad school for architecture, but DJ'd on the weekends.

After a chance meeting with the up-and-coming Kanye West, the two struck up a friendship and creative partnership that remains strong to this day. They interned together at Fendi in 2009, and in 2010, Abloh officially became the creative director of West's multidisciplinary agency, Donda.

In 2013, Abloh launched Off-White, the Milan-based fashion house that would close the gap between streetwear and high fashion and become ubiquitous among in-the-know celebs. In the years since, Abloh broke into the world of fine art with a collaboration with Takashi Murakami, debuted a highly coveted sneaker partnership with Nike, and dropped an electronic EP, ‘Orvnge,' with Berlin-based producer Boys Noize.

In 2018, he ascended to fashion's most prestigious heights, announcing his new position as artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear. Is it any wonder he's been named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world?

    Good show but wasn’t organized.

Virgil didn’t come out till 1:30 am. The opening show was Jacque green but since crowd was mostly there to mosh pit to Virgil’s set. The room was not feeling the house music that Greene was playing during his set. So that’s why I give it a 3 star because show didn’t really start till Virgil came, choosing a better opener for Virgil’s type of crowd would have made it an overall better show
