About

Vir Das is an Emmy-winning comedian, actor, and one of the most global voices in stand-up today. The New York Times raves, "No artist embodies the globalization of stand-up like Vir Das." His recent Netflix comedy special, Fool Volume, which he also directed, has earned praise from Vulture as "a uniquely sumptuous experience." His previous special, Landing, premiered to universal acclaim and won the 2023 International Emmy Award for Best Comedy, following his first nomination for Vir Das: For India in 2021.

This fall, Vir makes his literary debut with his memoir, The Outsider--A story that follows his journey as a perpetual outsider, using humor to navigate heartbreak, failure, and the quest for belonging.

As India's biggest stand-up comedian and a Bollywood star, Vir continues to break barriers and sell out venues worldwide. He has performed over 180 shows across the globe, including a celebrated run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and headlines major stages from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Eventim Apollo in London.

Beyond stand-up, Vir has created, produced, and starred in multiple acclaimed projects, including the ABC drama-comedy Whiskey Cavalier, the Netflix thriller Hasmukh, and Amazon's travel series Jestination Unknown. He appeared in Judd Apatow's Netflix feature The Bubble and is developing several new film and TV projects. When he's not on screen or stage, Vir fronts India's premier comedy-rock band, Alien Chutney.

  • Good but crude

by ABCD on 2/5/24Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Need to have thick skin and an open mind for this shiw. Lots of political jokes. Got really personal about his struggles . Tried new material for his next special. Spent some time in audience with was not viewable from the mezzanine in our theater. Tied his end jokes together too his opening jokes. Tough to tell if he improvised a portion of his bit or if it was orchestrated as he spent several minutes. Ragged on Gen Z. Used quite a bit of profanity in both Hindi and English which was ok by me.

  • underwhelming

No opener. He goes on exactly at show start. I found the show underwhelming. It's difficult to understand him at times with the accent and jokes made in another language. For the jokes that I did understand, he was funny.

  • Mediocre

Maybe the expectations were high but it kinda felt mediocre.

  • Pretty original - went for 2 hours!

Loved it! Vir Das's comedy session was a refreshing and delightful experience, marked by its originality and insightful take on topics that resonate with both Indians and Indian Americans. Das showcased a keen understanding of the cultural nuances and managed to weave them seamlessly into his humor.

  • Cry Worthy & Comical

by Roo on 11/6/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

He is such a great story teller, punch liner & overall smart, loving person. You can tell he has a beautiful heart & truly has a natural talent for comedy. He knew how to interact with the crowd & also involve us in the skits. I cried a few times laughing & realized I needed that laugh, the seats were a lot cheaper than a psychologist lol. Highly recommend, even as an American that didn't know all the people he mentioned, you could tell from the tone & joke, exactly what the joke was about.

  • Hilarity in a comfortable venue

Wife and I had a blast. We watched Vir Das on Netflix and were happy to see he was performing close to us. He performed all new content and was had the audience laughing for well over an hour.

  • 4 stars

by Desigirl on 5/15/23The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 4 out of 5

Show was really good but not well organized. We had bar seating (which we paid more) but ended up with horrible seats because the seat ahead of us was of same height. I had to turn my head around left and right because the guy ahead of me had a big head and kept moving. I wish back seats were on elevation or raised.

  • What a show

    by Sonya on 10/24/22Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Intimate show. Only negative was the sound system was a little hard on my old ears. Appreciate the lighting speed and wit of performance while sharing the experience with my surrounding Indian neighbors. Nice guy next to me explained a few inside jokes. Don’t understand Vir Das’ fan demographic of young guys as this old lady always laughs her head off at his clever feminism and humanism.

by Raj on 4/23/22Rating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I have a tradition to do a North beach dinner and a comedy show (at Cobb’s, punchline, Masonic ) especially when Trevor Noah is in town. Watching Vir Das live will be our new tradition- this guy is hilarious and has an amazing energy. His ability to nonstop engage and entertain his audience is masterful. His material is refreshingly on point and punchy with a killer delivery and timing. Could relate to his content both as an naturalized American and as a desi. Great job Vir . Stay true to your craft man.
