About

Vir Das is an Emmy-winning comedian, actor, and one of the most global voices in stand-up today. The New York Times raves, "No artist embodies the globalization of stand-up like Vir Das." His recent Netflix comedy special, Fool Volume, which he also directed, has earned praise from Vulture as "a uniquely sumptuous experience." His previous special, Landing, premiered to universal acclaim and won the 2023 International Emmy Award for Best Comedy, following his first nomination for Vir Das: For India in 2021.

This fall, Vir makes his literary debut with his memoir, The Outsider--A story that follows his journey as a perpetual outsider, using humor to navigate heartbreak, failure, and the quest for belonging.

As India's biggest stand-up comedian and a Bollywood star, Vir continues to break barriers and sell out venues worldwide. He has performed over 180 shows across the globe, including a celebrated run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and headlines major stages from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Eventim Apollo in London.

Beyond stand-up, Vir has created, produced, and starred in multiple acclaimed projects, including the ABC drama-comedy Whiskey Cavalier, the Netflix thriller Hasmukh, and Amazon's travel series Jestination Unknown. He appeared in Judd Apatow's Netflix feature The Bubble and is developing several new film and TV projects. When he's not on screen or stage, Vir fronts India's premier comedy-rock band, Alien Chutney.

I never expected lesser from this gentleman and he delivered on his promise. My husband who is on the fence about paying to watch stand up comedy came out of the show and declared - never have I ever laughed for two hours straight. Thank you Vir for an enriching evening.

  • Worth every penny

by Koyel R. on 11/17/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

I loved Vir Das from his show, but watching him Live was even better - it was like he was interacting with the audience as a composite being and at the same time, he was connecting with some more. Sharp wit, funny quips and total entertainment - that's what this show was.

  • The best stand up in existence

by SVG on 11/12/24The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 5 out of 5

Vir Das is a phenomenon. The most astute, accurate and funniest comic out there right now. Don’t go if intellectual, mirror gazing dissection is not your cup of tea. Because that’s what Vir Das does- shows us a mirror in the most hilarious, sarcastic, take no prisoners way possible. He is the conscience of a society right now- and takes no prisoners while doing it. Worth attending, again and again and again.

by Emily C on 2/6/24The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I got tickets because i love Vir Das on netflix. He did not disappoint and it felt good that he has connections to Chicago. The audience was about 70% Indian which was cool, but there were many references that went over our heads. No biggie. We enjoyed the show and enjoyed the Indians enjoying seeing the Indian people enjoying what went over our heads.

  • Meh Show

by Sunny on 2/6/24Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

What started out promising felt after a bit as though Vir was winging it on the spot. Oddly enough he decided to suddenly turn on all the lights in the theater and got off the stage and sat in the audience for a good 10 mins. To the rest of the audience especially those in the balcony, we were left bewildered wondering if we were there for a podcast instead since the performer could not be seen. It broke the flow of the performance and some of us could not recover from it. We’ll give this one a miss next time.

  • Inspiring, heartfelt, hilarious!

by Destini on 2/5/24Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Wasn’t sure what to expect being a white girl and going to see an Indian comic but Vir Das made me feel like I was included in all the fun! His stories are inspiring and always with a funny twist or words of wisdom. Despite not being from India, he really has a way with his words that made me feel like I got a glimpse of what it’s like and can enjoy the stories just as much as everyone else! Love it! Love him!
