Violent Femmes still rockin' after 30 years!

by Hypatia1957 on 10/13/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

For fans of the Violent Femmes from the 1980's: If you haven't yet seen them in their latter years--get up and get out there! Seeing a Femmes show brings back all the memories you forgot to remember. It's like time travel back to your youth! Nothing like the Femmes to melt away decades of adulthood, responsibilities and all the icky things about growing up. Transport yourself back to happier times... don't miss them next time around! Love me some timeless Femmes!

    Violent Femmes was freaking AWESOME!!!

by addneed on 10/13/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

They were freaking awesome. I loved how they stuck to singing the songs as they were written they didn't add or change anything (that is so annoying). Good vibes and good times!! Thanks Femmes!!

They knew exactly what their fans wanted!

by EFraib on 11/19/13Roseland Ballroom - New York

On the 30th anniversary, what a great way to honor their debut album! playing it from beginning to end, just like I remembered. Just like I listened to one thousand times start to finish. They are crowd pleasers and true musicians. They really display their musical talent. The new drummer is phenomenal! Like he has been there forever.

    Violent Femmes

by Bob718 on 11/17/13Roseland Ballroom - New York

The Violent Femmes are an amazing band that really rocked the house! I loved seeing so many new fans since I have been a fan since I was in High School! They still have that unique sound and furry as the album. One of the best things about this event was the Venue. Roseland Ballroom is a great place to see a show, and it will soon be closing. New York is loosing all of it's wonderful venues and soon it will be nothing but Disney.

Violent Femmes still shredding after all these yea

by Burkemeister on 11/17/13Roseland Ballroom - New York

I felt like last Thursday nights show was something really special, nostalgic in the best of ways, enjoyable musically, and fun as hell, we danced and sang our asses off. The band members all flew in from various parts of the world (Bassist, Brian Ritchie flew in from Australia) for this make up show of the rained out Central Park show in September. They opened with some obscure songs from their unpopular sophomore album "Hallowed Ground" but this was a treat for die hard fans. A few more songs later they declared they were "going to have some fun" and played their self titled debut album in it's entirety giving EVERYONE what they wanted. The Horns of Dilemma supported on several songs- "Black Girls" amongst others. A highlight was when the band took a break while Gordon Gano recited a powerful reading of Lou Reed's "Like A Possum" lyrics as if he were a deranged carny spewing junkie gospel. Before long they played "Country Death Song" a very dark song about a father who pushes his daughter into a well before ultimately committing suicide. Gano admitted he has no idea why this song is often requested and apparently a fan favorite. At the end of the song he said that since they were already in D-Minor (I believe) that they would play their other song that happens to be in D-Minor "Color Me Once" off of the The Crow motion picture soundtrack from. A few songs later found them ending with another sing along "American Music" The band played with tremendous energy, solidified by new drummer Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls, who filled in more than adequately drumming standing up, while providing good backing vocals. It could be a long time before the Violent Femmes play stateside again. I got the sense that this show was one for the history books.

    Avett Brothers Rocked!

by Nik33 on 6/29/13Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - Milwaukee

I bought tickets to go and see The Avett Brothers. We had a great time at the concert. Violent Femmes were good and Edward Sharpe band was fun. I wish the Avett Brothers played longer, but overall it was a great night. I'm more than thrilled that I upgraded my seats a week prior when I saw they were available. Our seats were fantastic!

    Avetts are unbelievably talented!

by SuzieOne on 6/29/13Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - Milwaukee

Violent Femmes were good, but the sound was off a little. Avett Brothers came out and rocked the amphitheater with a crisp sound that made you think you had your earbuds in and your iPod cranking. They are energetic and awesome in ways you should not miss in this lifetime. Awesome, awesome, AWESOME!!!!

The band that made Milwaukee Famous

by GooWZLP on 6/28/13Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - Milwaukee

I hadn’t seen the Femmes since the '06 Festa Italiana (Miller Stage) gig. The Summerfest reunion show was fantastic. They played the entire classic 1st album in order opening with “Blister in the Sun”. They they still sounded great. Brian Ritchie played some mean xylophone on “Gone Daddy Gone”. For the album closer “Good Feelings”, sharing lead vocals with Gordon Gano was Sammy BoDean. Great duet. After the 1st album they played songs from the rest of their catalog. The Horns of Dilemma (the original members) came out for this “Confession” section. The set ended with “American Music” and for the encore they did “Blister” again.

    The Avett Brothers were amazing!

by J414 on 6/28/13Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - Milwaukee

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros & the Avett Brothers were the best part of the concert. The Avett Brothers rocked the crowd, sounded amazing and made the entire concert worthwhile. If I were just reviewing the first 2 bands, then I would have given it a definite recommended, but unfortunately, the Violent Femmes came on. Not only did it take them 45 minutes to set up after the Brothers finished, they came on the stage as though they just woke up from a nap. They looked and sounded old and tired. It's like the band never played together or practiced. Time to hang it up, Femmes. It was almost as if each member was playing a different song at the same time. Gordon Gano was so off key and basically relied on the crowd to sing all the songs. The drummer seemed to be the only one on key and able to move more than a foot or two on stage. Horrible, horrible. Left after a few songs. Couldn't listen anymore.

    The Marcus Ampitheater ruins shows

by MWik on 6/28/13Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - Milwaukee

I couldn't see. They didn't play long enough. They repeated a song. There were far too many empty seats. It was barely a rock concert! I want my money back I had such a boring time.

    SO AWESOME

by Jessrock on 9/20/11The Hub - Fargo

It has been years, but I saw the Femme's in Fargo North Dakota at The Hub. They were outstanding! The entire audience was dancing and singing along. If you have the opportunity to see these guys take it! You won't be disappointed.
