    Paul Taylor Dance Company

by Harstu on 6/29/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Excellent dancing, but the second work, “Half Life,” was not appealing. I did not like the music or the dancing. The music was not agreeable to my ears - too screetchy and loud. The dancing was repetitive. I really enjoyed the other 2 works that were original to Paul Taylor and wish the whole program had been such works. After all I was there to see the choreography of Paul Taylor, not have trouble digesting something as difficult - and not uplifting- as that second work. DPAC is not a good venue because it is hard to navigate. Too little information available for people with mobility issues.

    Very Disappointing!!!

by finny528 on 4/24/18Detroit Opera House - Detroit

I was very excited to see the Paul Taylor Dance Company. As the curtains opened & they performed their first dance steps, I was utterly amazed ... that here was a professional dance company, charging $85 per ticket, with the most immature choreography, & lack of dance polish, skill, & synchronization. People all around me were clapping, some yelling "Bravo!", some saying how lovely the dancing was. I truly cannot believe that these people have ever witnessed a fine dance performance. I don't normally submit reviews, but had to share my comments this time.

We enjoyed Paul Taylor very much! We liked the way they opened with a fairy tale. The costumes were fitting the themes, the music was great, and the performers so talented.

The Paul Taylor company exceeded all expectations

by Energyperson on 8/2/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The dancing was fantastic, and even more so combined with beautiful music and costumes that accentuated the strong and graceful bodies of the dancers. The program was well-structured as well, developing from the initial Snow White whimsical number to the Bach number at the end.

    Liked, but Didn't Love

by AmLuLa on 8/1/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I was thrilled by Paul Taylor Dance Company in past years at ADF, but was underwhelmed this year. The final of their pieces reflected the contemporary vibrancy I was anticipating and brought the whole evening to life for me. The other pieces felt a bit stale, as they were less modern (older choreography). I was impressed by the calibre of the dancers, but not excited by the choreography. I would say it was good, but not great.

    Fantastic and amazing

by Heisie on 8/1/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Every single piece was masterfully choreographed and danced, lighting design and costumes stunning, and an attentive audience full of dancers. A truly memorable evening.

Wonderful program, except for the second piece, Profiles.. The music for that was awful. Everything else was excellent. Wonderful choreography and terrific dancers. They shoukd come back every year to ADF.

    A must see performance!

by Runesong on 7/6/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Taylor is a master of energy, movement, and contrasts. His seamless choreography results in a rare fusion of dancer & music in an emotionally stunning performance that will sweep you up in the moment & make you too want to leap, crash, & roll across the stage for the pure joy of it.

    Paul Taylor dance

by Willamee on 2/17/15Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

Very disappointing. Not at all what I was hoping for. This was our Christmas gift to our preteen grandaughter. I thought it would be beautiful modern ballet with colorful costumes and uplifting themes. It was heavy and dark and depressing. No color at all. Nothing uplifting.

    Program was disappointing

by Artsfan2014 on 11/11/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

I know Paul Taylor does a lot of subtle, complex, even moody work. Why, then, was his program for Des Moines three bright, cheerful pieces with little depth! The premiere, especially, was disappointing, and pairing it with two brisk, bright older pieces made the program unvarying in mood. Was it dumbed down for the Midwest? Please!!

    Choreography with heart and fun

    by MSP2 on 5/30/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Really enjoyed the depression era music and dances, and appreciate the vibrancy and musicality of the dancers. Great experience overall!

    Paul Taylor extravaganza

by DrWhoLady on 5/24/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

I have seen the Paul Taylor Dance Company before. This troupe was excellent. The dances were designed to allow all of the dancers to shine as each had brief solos. I would have liked a little more substance to the overall program, the last dance being the best.

    Loved Mercuric Tidings

by legendtrail on 5/21/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

We had never been to a dance program before and were amazed at how beautiful and moving the performance was. We especially enjoyed Black Tuesday and Mercuric Tidings. The dancers were so in sync and the choreography was spectacular. We absolutely loved the program.

All 3 dances were quite different in feeling and expression. The first one Black Tuesday about the depression in the 1930's was a surprise because of the music which is made up of songs which evocative of the suffering of that time and were recordings of the time. Very good and the dance, of course, emulated the music very well. the second dance, Sunset was a little less obvious. guys meet girls in the park with a smidgen of guy meets guy in the park. it was all very sensitively done and nice to watch but unexciting. Mercuric Tidings was pure dance, no story line, and wonderful, the dancers were all on the stage and the layers and patterns that were made by them were wonderful and lyric.
