The performance was beautiful and refreshing but the breaks between the three parts were way too long.

by psychi on 7/19/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamWe were very disappointed in this concert as a whole, esp. as have always loved his choreography, creativity, and highly skilled dancers. The last piece, Arden Court, was wonderful, and the dancing was excellent. The first 2 pieces, however, seemed lackluster, uninspired, and at times even boring; they also resembled each other too closely in the theme of being a time of day, with no "plot", focus, or clear dynamic. With the huge variety of his other works to choose from, it didn't make sense to place 2 pieces that are so similar in a row, and neither of which presented a significant contrast to the last one (Arden Court). Unlike in the past, I could not recommend this event, and will now hesitate to spend the time (we drove over 2 hours each way and spent the night) or the money to see this choreographer again, unless we recongnized at least 2 of the pieces to be strong.
Rating: 5 out of 5 TOTALLY ENJOYABLE AND BEST ADF PERFORMANCE EVER.
by TOZAN on 7/16/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamTHIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO DPAC AND HAD A HONESTLY FULFILLING EXPERIENCE. NO FRANK SINATRA AT THE BEGINNING IN THE LOBBY OR AT INTERMISSION, AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS HUMAN AND THE SOUND LEVEL IN THE HALL WAS EXCELLENT. I COMPLAINED BITTERLY ABOUT THESE TWO THINGS SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND WAS TOLD I WAS THE ONLY PERSON WHO CRITICIZED IT...I NEVER WENT BACK UNTIL THIS PERFORMANCE I GOT FOR A FRIEND'S BIRTHDAY BECAUSE WE BOTH LOVE PAUL TAYLOR. THE DANCING WAS ELEGANT, AND MEANINGFUL EMOTIONALLY, SUCH EXCELLENCE IN THE PRECISION WAS A JOY TO WATCH. THE LAST PIECE WAS OVER THE TOP AND I THINK HE HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IN THE DANCE WORLD WORKING FOR HIM.

by Pghmum on 7/16/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamMy 12-yr-old daughter and I were in town for a few days, and decided at the last minute to see what was going on in Durham. We didn't know anything about Paul Taylor, but bought a couple of tickets to go find out. We were blown away by the performance and couldn't have been happier with the venue. We had back-row seats on one of the lower tiers, and were able to see everything perfectly. The other nice thing about this event was that there was free parking in the garage - on a Friday night!! It was easy to get in and out and the area around the theater was well-lighted and lots of people around. We're so amazed by Paul Taylor Dance Company and will probably go see them in NYC next year.

by Jackster1952 on 7/16/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamHave been following and enjoying (except for several pieces) this troupe for many years. Last week they appeared very dated, traditional, nearly all white, with shockingly very gender specific roles in the choreography. Is this 2013? When the static brown landscape painting (like large brown water color) and drab, gender specific costumes (women being much less appealingly clothed, muscles hidden etc.) was repeated after the first intermission, well, I got up and did not wait around for the 3rd piece. I'd purchased seats for the following night and, since it was the same program, did not bother attending.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Excellence of Paul Taylor 2
by Anonymous on 3/7/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodThis group of six wonderfully trained, talented modern dancers brought Paul Taylor's dances to life with skill, energy and finesse. From the overall grasp of each piece to the smallest details, the dances were rendered with precision and elan.
Rating: 1 out of 5 totally sucked
by opny on 3/6/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodI know my tickets were free, but I really feel bad for anyone who actually paid to see the show. The dances and costumes were overwhelmingly homosexual and the dancing ws of overall poor quality. It was so bad that we left after the first 30 minutes..

Rating: 3 out of 5 Too expensive and not children-oriented
by donxi on 7/25/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamWe took my 4 year-old to this performance, her first dance performance. It might be more age-appropriate for a 6-8 year-old (and up). I had assumed there would be a child-specific content to the performance, but it really seemed to be a normal performance shortened for childrens' attention spans. Additionally, at $27 per ticket (incl. fees), it was way too pricey for a 1-hour event. I have always enjoyed Paul Taylor dance performances for adults in the past, and the dancers were certainly first-rate this time as well, but felt like they could have done more to cater to children.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Dance as a spiritual event
by PowellNC on 7/24/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamI had completely let the ADF festival slip my mind, but thankfully remembered in time to get seats for this event. I know that front of house isn't always preffered for these events, but was excited to have a front row seat. To se the viscerality of the company up close and personal- a moment I will never ever forget. I'm able to call myself one of the first audiences to see the premier of "The Uncomitted", and was blown away. the emotion, passion and spirituality ( for lack of a better word) moved me... at times to tears.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Wonderful night of dance
by abbadabba on 12/6/10Tilles Center Concert Hall - GreenvaleInventive, great variety of dance. Small cast of only 12 who were both athletic and elegant dancers. The choreography was interesting, energizing, and inventive without being "weird". I took my mother and 10 year old daughter and all of us enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. I hope Paul Taylor comes back next season!

by DancerIVLife on 11/7/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonThis was my first time ever seeing the Paul Taylor Dance Company live in performance. It was very different from what I've seen before but being a dancer myself with my own dance company I can appreciate the brilliance of Paul Taylor. I took the experience as a learning tool to help better my dance company. I would recommend anyone who appreciates the art of dance to see them perform.
