Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award® winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland). "It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune.
Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna (Bareilles). A waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.
"WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
The show was very engaging and fun. The music was interesting and acting impeccable.
I loved the show. I'd never seen it, and really loved the depth of it, plus the humor. There were a few little extra things that occurred that I appreciated as well. Like the mention of our city, New Orleans, in a line. Plus the Pride flag showed by one of the couples in the play. And I am a huge fan of Sara Barreilles, and absolutely loved the music. Perfect. The only thing that was disappointing was that there was no Playbill for the show, as I collect those as part of every play I see, I couldn't believe there wasn't one.
The cast was phenomenal, the sound and music were perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed the peformance!
I loved the movie and wasn’t sure how well it would work on the stage, but it was very fun. Great cast, good songs and a stirring mixture of drama and comedy. It made for a really good shared experience with the rest of the audience.
We enjoyed the show very much, but there were no playbills for the entire run in New Orleans. My daughter collects playbills from every show she attends, so this was a big disappointment. Also, we had no way of knowing who was performing. Why weren't there any playbills?
Love the show! It was a wonderful experience for my daughter and I. However, I’m don’t understand why Playbills were not available.
I felt the language used at the beginning of the play was totally unnecessary and offensive but the rest of the play was done well. The music and choreography were good and the actors were well-cast - especially the curmudgeon customer. I was extremely touched by the ending and was in tears.
The cast was so entertaining, so talented! I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I was not sure what to expect. This was the best theatre I have seen in years. The cast was wonderful. I laughed, I cried, and I enjoyed. If you get the opportunity to see this play, do it. You won’t regret it
Haven't enjoyed a performance this much since Chicago!
