Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players—Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season—making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Family fun for my nephew's 14th Birthday. He said it all, "This is the best birthday ever!" It was also my most expensive birthday event, but after all, it was the Canucks!

This was a great game and a fun spectacle. It is always fun at Rogers Arena, but unfortunately we can only go about once a year because THE TICKETS ARE SO EXPENSIVE!!!

  • Canucks game

Fun place to watch a game. Single tix can be had for cheaper then pairs if your on a budget. Howard Johnson is two miles away and one bus takes you there and its cheaper and closer then many downtown hotels. Rogers Arena offers many food options. The Casino is across the way for post game fun.

The hockey game was great, just wished I could have seen the last period. The staff at Rogers Arena has a lot to be desired. They automatically assumed I was using foul language as I was one a few in our section who supported the other team. They wouldn't listen to anything me nor my friends had to say. Even the usher of the section disagreed with them, but it didn't matter. I eventually ended up leaving rather than argue any further. In America we're innocent until proven guilty, too bad it's not that way with Rogers Arena staff!

  • Respect due for Naslund !!!!!!

by hockeyfan182 on 12/23/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

#19 rises to the rafters tonight in Vancouver and Markus Naslund is further immortalized in Canucks folklore. Great to see past vancouver canuck members as Dan Cloutier and Mattias Ohlund. Rogers arena was loud and very easy to get involved in the pre game Ceremonies.

  • Canucks game was great

Nazzis' number retirement was an unexpected bonus and well deserved and very impressive.

  • Nazzy Night

by markeversfield on 12/13/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This was a fantastic night The music, images, memories, and the technologies to display these made it a special night.

  • Blues Won!

by Bubbinski on 12/7/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

My Team won which was a plus, The Rogers Arena has a very small concourse, it was not designed for lots of people, I would not waste my time standing in line at the concessions, you would miss the game. The Seats were way overpriced, $100 per seat is a rippoff

  • by Downset on 11/28/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

I flew all the way from Finland to see this game and the big screen does not work for two periods at our end of the arena. This was definately a big minus and the fact that the Canucks lost. Other than that I had a good time.

  • Awesome game!

by SethSaxPlayer on 11/26/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first Canucks game ever. I'm so glad I finally got the opportunity to go. On top of it being my first game, my favorite player got his first goal of the year, so that made it even better. The arena is awesome. The food and beer aren't cheap, but that's to be expected. The overall experience is awesome. If you get the chance to ever go to a game, DO IT!!

  • The worst sporting event I’ve ever seen

by hockeyfan3579 on 11/23/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

As a Seattle area sports fan and veteran of 250+ WHL, 100+ NBA, 50+ MBL, 20+ NCAA FB and BB, and 10+ NFL games I’ve seen my share of good and bad games but this one takes the cake. The Canucks coming off two days rest came out for a big home Saturday night HNIC game against the cup champs who played the night before with all the energy and fire of a glass of water. I’ve seen more enthusiasm at a mites scrimmage. No hitting, no speed, no guts, nothing. I can except this is not a tough team and they’re never going to intimidate anyone physically, but they’re suppose to be able to skate and score with decent goaltending from their overpaid tender. The worst part is that once they were down by three in the second they completely quit like a five year ballerina who fell on her face and ran off the stage crying. The one notable exception was #15 Tanner Glass who played hard the entire game. I don’t think this team will go far in the playoffs because they have no heart.

  • I had to make a statement & walk out early

by misslindav on 11/22/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

for each player and for each manager.. goalie coach, coaches, trainers.... I felt the need to walk out of the game... I had not seen such a game in a long time... I am a true Canucks fan ... that was left disappointed in the events during the game.. I loved the team spirit during warm up skate.. players tossing pucks to the youngters in the crowd... I ended up with one and found the closest youngster to me and handed it over to him... That was the high light of the game of Vancouver Canucks vs Chicago Blackhawks on November 20, 2010

  • by Chrissi1611 on 11/22/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The event itself was great! I only have the feeling that the ticket was too expensive for a 25th row seat!
