About

You don't sell over two million copies of your debut album without some serious hard work, and Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy has never been shy of major elbow grease. When Vance Joy first cut his teeth performing at open mic nights in Melbourne, he was feeding on a diet of artists like The Pogues and Paul Kelly. By 2013 he was ready to introduce the world to his ukulele-led charm 'Riptide', which became an instant global classic. The connection and journey his music was about to have on the world in years to come was an unexpected reward to the young songwriter.

Vance Joy (born James Keogh) consolidated on that first impression with further anthems 'Mess is Mine', 'Georgia' and 'Fire and the Flood'. Those hits all found a home on the 2014's debut 'dream your life away'. Vance Joy spent 2013 and 2014 playing clubs around the world before the album was released which then saw him surface everywhere from singing on the American Idol Season Final to being handpicked to open Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour, festivals from Lollapalooza in Chicago and South America, to Coachella, Splendour in the Grass and the AFL Grand Final. After his successful Sold Out 2016 'Fire and The Flood' North American theatre run, and Australian performances at the Sydney Opera House, Margaret Court Arena and Riverstage he took a well-earned rest.

Come July 2017 - Vance Joy kicked off the campaign for his sophomore album 'Nation of Two' with the lead single 'Lay It On Me' showing it was destined to be another successful album. The track was followed six months later with the album and follow up single 'Saturday Sun', a tune so good that he held up delivering Nation of Two to ensure it made the cut.

The success of 'Nation of Two' saw Vance Joy tour the world throughout 2018 on the 'Nation of Two World Tour' ranging in venues from Arena's across Canada, amphitheatres in North America including the famous Red Rocks, the first Latin American headline shows, theatres across Europe and Arena's across Australia including two sold-out hometown shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. November 2018, the end of the 83 date World Tour, Vance Joy had yet another offer to tour with one of the world's biggest female artists. P!NK extended an offer for Vance Joy to join her European stadium run on her Beautiful Trauma World Tour. Summer 2019 saw Vance Joy and band join her biggest tour to date and enjoy an extensive run of Stadium shows across Europe before taking another well-earned break to work on album number three.

In 2021 Vance Joy returned with 'Missing Piece', the song soon hit x2 Platinum in Australia, #1 at USA Triple A Radio, #2 on the Australian Radio Chart, #2 at the USA and Canada Alternative Radio Chart and won Best Video at the ARIA Awards. Released in June 2022, 'In Our Own Sweet Time', the third album by Vance Joy featured hit single, 'Clarity' which peaked at #3 on the USA Alt Radio Charts. The song spent one week at #1, nine weeks in the Top 5 and eleven weeks in the Top 10 on the Triple A Radio Charts in the US. In Australia, Vance Joy received 5 ARIA Nominations after the album's release including, Best Solo Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Artist, Best Pop Release for Clarity, Song of the Year for Clarity and Best Video for Every Side of You. Winning Best Video for the 2nd year in a row.

With 5 billion streams across all platforms, it's no surprise that listeners all over the world connect to Vance Joys intimate yet anthemic song writing. His lyrics take you on a journey that will reach out and hold you for a delicate moment. Bringing together a unique, charming mix of folk music with pop influences, these songs capture the familiar pulse of everyday experiences in a unique and celebratory manner.

I had goosebumps the whole time his voice was so beautiful. I even teared up a little lol. I had such a great time and I didn't want it to end. At the end of the show he ended up doing a meet and greet. He was soo nice and I can't wait to see him again

    Vance Joy was PERFECT!

by GwendolynFernandes on 6/14/15The Norva - Norfolk

I cannot even express how much I loved this concert! For being so new, he had such great energy, simplicity, & a warm, gentle approach to his fans. Singing live, he sounds EXACTLY like he does on the CD's studio version. A concert you definitely do not want to miss. Great singer & wish I could do it all again.

He sounds even better live, it was a great show, great energy, and his opening act was pretty killer as well.

    LOVE HIM!!!

by Bosoxgirl76 on 5/1/15House of Blues Houston - Houston

This is not the first time I have seen Vance Joy . I saw him the week his CD game out in Austin. Seeing him this week @ HOB Houston, he was more polished and sure that he deserved to be there. I am sure that everyone was there to hear “Riptide” in my opinion worst song on CD. His thoughtful words and extreme talent showed through every moment he was on stage. He has definitely found himself on stage over the last few months with the new lighting and backdrop. Such an improvement from the first time I saw him. I would see him again and again since he does not disappoint.

Vance Joy was good - the crowd was weak.

by Icantthinkoffhkingnicknam on 4/26/15Pinnacle Bank Arena - Lincoln

This could have been a much better show if the venue had matched the artist. It was held in our 15,000 seat arena. Vance Joy is pretty new and unknown here. Riptide is played on the radio, but that's about it. This resulted in the venue seeming nearly empty. I'm guessing there were maybe 500-1,000 people there, which would have filled other Lincoln venues much better. Instead, it felt awkwardly empty. This was a "free" show to UNL students, so there were a lot in the audience that didn't know the artists or care to get to know him. Vance Joy put on a nice show. Unfortunately, most in the embarrassingly obviously small crowd failed to notice. Vance Joy noticed however, and left without an encore. It was a shame.

    Talented artist. Terrible crowd.

by Anonymous on 11/10/14A and R Music Bar - Columbus

I have been listening to Vance Joy from the beginning of his career and I am a massive fan of his music, especially his style of writing (although not a fan of his most recent decision to tour with Taylor Swift - he's entirely too talented to be the opener of an unoriginal, one trick pony such as Taylor Swift). I saw him in August during the CD 102.5 Summerfest and while I really enjoyed his set I was annoyed so much by the crowd that I couldn't fully enjoy myself. Unfortunately, during his set at the A&R the same thing happened. He is a very soft spoken individual with a quiet presence and having drunk girls screaming whilst he tries to tell the story behind a song does not make for an enjoyable evening. BUT ignorant individuals aside, Vance Joy puts on a phenomenal performance. He has such a lovely voice and a quiet, sweet stage presence that completely pulls you in. He sounds just as good, if not better live and I would most definitely recommend seeing him live - especially before his inevitable fame that is bound to unfortunately happen on his tour with Taylor Swift.

    Vance Joy is Swoon-worthy

by CaseytheDiva on 11/10/14A and R Music Bar - Columbus

The show was great, but the venue was awful. A&R Bar is great when the weather is nice and the garage doors are open, but the space is very cramped and awkward, not to mention loud. I could hear the music, but anytime he spoke it just sounded like a bunch of mumbles... which is a shame, since he has such a lovely accent. Oh well, hope to hear him again soon at another venue here in Columbus!
