About

VAN HALEN IN CONCERT: In their rise stardom, the legendary rockers of Van Halen left an indelible mark on hard rock and heavy metal by challenging conventional notions of what was musically possible. From the hot-wired licks of guitarist Eddie Van Halen to the heart-pounding double bass drumming of his brother Alex, their supercharged sound never fails to excite audiences in concert. And with legendary frontman David Lee Roth bringing his charisma back to the fold, the group has recaptured the same energy that made them a must-see spectacle in the first place. Incendiary hits like “Hot for Teacher” and “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love” still sit perfectly beside catchy favorites like “Jump” and “Dance the Night Away”, and ticket buyers can’t help but sing along to all the classics every time Van Halen plays on tour. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT: Growing up in a musical household, brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen pushed each other to become instrumental virtuosos by their teens. They started playing with dynamic singer David Lee Roth and bassist Marc Anthony in 1974, settling on the eponymous Van Halen moniker later that year. Their self-titled 1978 debut went on to sell over 10 million copies thanks to Eddie’s game-changing guitar playing, Roth’s flamboyant persona, and their undeniably catchy songs. The band became a veritable hard rock institution with their masterstroke album 1984, which contained the number 1 hit “Jump” and helped them crossover from metal to mainstream. Unfortunately, conflicts between Roth and the rest of the band lead to a falling out, and the frontman was replaced by Sammy Hagar. The new Van Halen lineup scored more hits, while Roth concurrently enjoyed a successful solo career. Eventually Hagar split with the group as well, and they briefly hired former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone before announcing a hiatus in 1999. The band reunited with Hagar in 2003 for a reunion tour, but tensions in the band resulted in him leaving again. Tempers between David Lee Roth and the band had cooled by that point, and he rejoined Van Halen in 2006, while Eddie’s son Wolfgang took over on bass. Their fresh lineup still inspires the same pandemonium from their early days, while their 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth (their first record with Roth since 1984) continues to excite fans around the world.

Growing up this was the I followed the most and have seen them many times growing up. My mother was even a fan and their music means more to me then just songs, it was the last 70's early 80's the best times with the best music.

Van Halen was the ultimate concert!!

by Theorigionalmamabear on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Van Halen was epic. David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen put on the show of a lifetime. Wolfgang did great and it was awesome to see Eddie performing up there with his son. Eddie is SO talented, and his age hasn't slowed his talent one bit. David Lee Roth was hilarious and their arrangement of songs was amazing. For anyone who grew up in the 80's, it was the night of a lifetime. Even the baby boomers enjoyed themselves. The Hollywood Bowl venue did a great job.

Van Halen Was a Great Show in San Diego

by echoes2112 on 10/7/15Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista - Chula Vista

Didn't expect the show to be so good. I looked forward to the set list, but doubted the performance. Very surprised to find the stage and lighting simple yet great. Didn't expect much showmanship and did not know if Eddie and David were going to be getting along and such, and watching them was just as entertaining as hearing the show. The seemed genuinely to be enjoying themselves and the music. It resulted in a night of great songs and entertainment. Had a great eight row seat which helped and got some great photos. Overall it was a really great show, their energy was high because it was the third to last show of the tour. Made me want to see another show up in Hollywood Bowl after seeing them in San Diego.

    VH still delivers!

    by jeffw38 on 10/6/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Hollywood Bowl was packed! David Lee Roth spent a lot of time talking to the audience and that was cool. He still is the best front man in rock. Great set list. Great show, weather, all that!

    Van Halen Was Fantastic!!!!!

    by JEC2 on 10/6/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Phenominal show! The band kept its momentum from start to finsh, and you tell they were having as much fun as the audience was. They didn't miss a beat, and to see Eddie dancing on the stage while playing was just such a joy!!! Hope they keep playing for many years to come cause I know I would definitely go to see them any time.

Van Halen wasn't as good as before.

by Anonymous on 10/6/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was my fourth time seeing Van Halen and every other time was absolutely amazing!!! Unfortunately this time wasn't. It was average and for the $800.00 I spent I expected Spectacular and didnt get it! My seats and my view were HORRIBLE, very disappointed. Also I'm not anonymous, it won't take my name Martha "Carita"

It's all about Eddie - Sammy can come back now

by BigDoubleD on 10/6/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

We really enjoyed Eddie the most and DLR just would not stop talking! They have so many great tracks to build a super show but with all of the yip yapping from DLR and spread out nature of big songs it just did not work for us. For some reason I knew not to shell out for the high price tickets on this one. My Suggestion for Van Halen - put together a DLR vs. Sammy challenge and do it 311 style with each song trying to outdo the next song. At least then the heat will be on DLR to perform better and quit talking so much.

Eddie Van Halen= amazing; David Lee Roth phoned it

    by Cole111 on 10/5/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Eddie and Alex even Wolfie were amazing - sounding as amazing as ever. David Lee Roth phoned in his performance. He sounded like he was saving his voice; disappointed. Overall still a really good show.

There is no better guitarist than Eddie Van Halen

by Shovav on 10/5/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Van Halen is great. There is no better living guitarist than Eddie Van Halen. While David Lee Roth has lost something in the vocal range, he is still very flamboyant; very much a showman. My Little Sweetie compared him to Mick Jagger. I found DLR more accessible, with the rapport he created with the crowd. My Little Sweetie is sensitive to smoke, and the overwhelming mary jane usage left her sick to her stomach. That was a real bummer.
