About

VAN HALEN IN CONCERT: In their rise stardom, the legendary rockers of Van Halen left an indelible mark on hard rock and heavy metal by challenging conventional notions of what was musically possible. From the hot-wired licks of guitarist Eddie Van Halen to the heart-pounding double bass drumming of his brother Alex, their supercharged sound never fails to excite audiences in concert. And with legendary frontman David Lee Roth bringing his charisma back to the fold, the group has recaptured the same energy that made them a must-see spectacle in the first place. Incendiary hits like “Hot for Teacher” and “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love” still sit perfectly beside catchy favorites like “Jump” and “Dance the Night Away”, and ticket buyers can’t help but sing along to all the classics every time Van Halen plays on tour. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT: Growing up in a musical household, brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen pushed each other to become instrumental virtuosos by their teens. They started playing with dynamic singer David Lee Roth and bassist Marc Anthony in 1974, settling on the eponymous Van Halen moniker later that year. Their self-titled 1978 debut went on to sell over 10 million copies thanks to Eddie’s game-changing guitar playing, Roth’s flamboyant persona, and their undeniably catchy songs. The band became a veritable hard rock institution with their masterstroke album 1984, which contained the number 1 hit “Jump” and helped them crossover from metal to mainstream. Unfortunately, conflicts between Roth and the rest of the band lead to a falling out, and the frontman was replaced by Sammy Hagar. The new Van Halen lineup scored more hits, while Roth concurrently enjoyed a successful solo career. Eventually Hagar split with the group as well, and they briefly hired former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone before announcing a hiatus in 1999. The band reunited with Hagar in 2003 for a reunion tour, but tensions in the band resulted in him leaving again. Tempers between David Lee Roth and the band had cooled by that point, and he rejoined Van Halen in 2006, while Eddie’s son Wolfgang took over on bass. Their fresh lineup still inspires the same pandemonium from their early days, while their 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth (their first record with Roth since 1984) continues to excite fans around the world.

the Mighty Van Halen and KWS

    by littlewing142 on 10/8/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

KWS was great as usual. I'm a bigger KWS fan than VH but VH brought out all the hits. Dave put on a great show and his singing was great. Wolfies bass and background vocals were spot on too. I'm glad I got to see the final show of the tour!

    Van Halen's Epic Rock Concert

by RealistIdealist on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I finally had a chance to see them for the first time at their last concert of their tour. Van Halen did not dissapoint. Eddie Van Halen' guitar god status is well deserved. His solo was the highlight of the entire concert. The drummer and bassist did a good job to accompany Eddie. David Lee Roth's voice range had a hard time keeping up with the rest (he was way off on Jump). Nevertheless, his enthusiam was genuine and contagious. He is still has the presence and humor to command your attention. Together, they put a show that will stay with me the rest of my life. Thank you for being able to musically transport me back to my younger days.

    David Lee Roth sucked

by MyPoorEars on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

OMG did David Lee Roth suck. It almost seemed like he just sung random notes instead of the actual song melodies. So bad at times that the good backup vocals clashed hideously with whatever he was doing. Often he just skipped notes or verses, there was just blank holes. And his theatrics . . . it was like he was channeling Liberace, not fronting one of the best rock bands of a generation. Between every song DLR changed into a new vest, hat, scarf, etc., all flashy colors and sequins. HEY EDDIE, can't you import someone from the Phillipines? Don't Stop Believin !! On the otherhand the rest of the band was tight, sharp and sounded great. Alex knocked it out of the park with his solo. And Eddie, WOW, at the top of his game. If you haven't seen Eddie play before that alone was worth the price of admission. My date had never seen VH before, and Eddie was so awesome, that was great. But I was just so so embarassed by DLR. I've never been embarassed at a concert before.

VH was louder and better than ever!

by kymArellano on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was their last tour together, and the last show. Roth rocked with his usual energy and eddie is still the best guitar player in history. We definately got the "A" version! Awesome, classic legends who still enjoy what they do and it shows!

    Great vibes on tour

by SpitOfSound on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This concert is one of the final leg of this highly inspired Van Halen tour. I've also been to the San Bernardino gig and the same good vibes are present here. From beginning to end, this tour proves the band should always play live!

    Van Halen Still Cranks!

by MetalParrot on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Amazing show and set list from Van Halen featuring David Lee Roth. For their age, these guys pumped out some killer classics from the Roth days. Would've been nice to have all the original band members but Eddie's son Wolfgang filled the gap nicely for Michael Anthony. Of course Eddie performed a nice solo leading into Eruption/You Really Got Me Now. This was the last show on the tour at The Hollywood Bowl so a great fit for me to close out the tour. Drove all the way from AZ to see The Scorpions at The Forum the night before and this show. I took my 14 & 19 year old daughters and they were amazed. They like all the old school metal and rock I grew up with so this was cool. Let's face it, these bands aren't gonna be around very long. So do yourself a favor and check these guys out as well as any other rock band from the 80s....you won't regret it! Rock On and Metal Rules! \m/

    Van Halen needs a singer

    by danno777 on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Van Halen songs stand on their own, but there comes a time when a singer just can't hit those high notes or carry a tune. David Lee has come to that period of time. Also, his "story time with David" was hokey. The music and guitar play was amazing. The drumming was average. I saw Rush in August, and Rush blew Van Halen out of the water..

I LOVE VAN HALEN, David Lee Roth...Not so Much!

by drjscaledoc on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

3rd time I have seen Van Halen, 1st time with David Lee Roth (DLR). For my whole life it has been hard to wrap my head around how talented and completely awesome the Van Halen family is. 1st time seeing Wolfgang with the band. He and his dad are SO ON POINT. Eddie must be so proud and the way they harmonize makes me imagine how they spent time together when he was a kid. It warms my heart. They are arguably the most talented family in the business. God bless the Van Halen family. The ONLY reason that they did not get a SOLID 5 stars....DLR is not a great singer. He was more worried about changing shirts, hats and scarfs (felt like I was at a Cher concert) than actually singing in key. I waited my whole life to see him back with Van Halen (second only to seeing Steve Perry back with Journey)...and this is what I get??!!? In the slim chance that you are reading this Eddie......get Sammy Hagar back in the band ASAP. NO ONE ELSE...It has to be Sammy.

Greatest rock band ever at the top of their game

    by sforz22 on 10/7/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

What a fantastic show. The three Van Halens were flawless as always, and Dave was in outstanding form, voice-wise and in swagger, schtick, and entertainment. An experience I--and my daughters--will never forget. So much better live than watching youtube clips -- please release official video! Awesome setlist, great lightshow. Thanks Eddie, Dave, Al, and Wolfgang. More music please!!!
