    fair performance at the fair

by averagedudesandiego on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

First; I had relatively high expectations because of the cost of the tickets - even the cheap seats that I had were a little high. When I went with my family HALF the seats were empty. Drop the price by a third and I bet the place would have been sold out. Second; Overall, this looked like a non-professional (almost amateur) put pieces and parts of different styles together for a show. Nothing was tied together as a common theme. This show has potential...but it needs help. Drop the trampoline act and bring in Dressage (I actually had to google that word). Even Midieval Times had Dressage in the middle of the show. The show needed a narrator to inform those of us who know nothing about horses why what they are doing is so grand. Third; Extremely kid friendly. ABSOLUTELY NO HORSE WAS HARMED, STRESSED,HURT, OR YELLED AT even when they did not do as planned. The lady trainer was extremely nice and tolerant of the horses behavior. Non of the horses showed any signs of being pushed beyond their capacity. Heck, most didn't even show any signs of heavy breathing that is how tame the show was.

    Meh!

by trdite on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I didn't get the point of this show. Acrobatics and choreography falls far below Cirque du Soleil. The horse tricks maybe difficult and would be appreciated by riders but for lay people they weren't all that impressive. Overall I was bored at this show. Definitely wasn't worth the $150 I paid per ticket to sit in front. Definitely will not see again. Save your money for a Cirque du Soleil show like Cavalier.

    Exceptional show

by Stormcat33 on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

They are extraordinary athletes. The two-legged and the four legged performers. I would recommend this show to everyone. Thoroughly enjoying and left beautiful sounds and images in my head.

    Valitar

Excellant show. Little disorganised on the support staff side. Perhaps more acrobatics, but you come to see horses and that is what we saw.

    AMazing

by Jimmyvak on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The show was amazing in all respects. Also the service by all personnel was exceptional. We had VIP seats and they were worth the price as the food and refreshments were exceptional and my wife was thrilled with the tour of the stables.

by naomibell on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Although the horses were beautiful and the performers were talented...the best I can say is meh! It was okay...but not spectacular and not worth the price of admission. and $4.00 for a small popcorn...Robbery!

    Cavalia is better

by Lizardhissss on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Unless this group really comes up with something special, they are going to have a hard time paying for this amazing tent! We picked Valitar over Cavalia due to World Premier and location...but wish we had gone to Cavalia....saw their show a few years ago

    Valitar Worth the Money???

by mdndyet on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We purchased VIP tickets for the show at a cost of $250 per ticket. The pre-show appetizers and drinks were very well done. The show itself was average, especially if you are a horse person. After the show we looked forward to hanging out with the horses and performers. Was very surprised at how quickly we were rushed out of there, and there really weren't too many performers to talk with. Overall, certainly not worth the $250. If I would have known, I would have bought the cheaper seats.

    Unimpressive, for the money

by IdoUcan on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Based upon the advertising, we expected an impressive display of horsepersonship as well as great special effects. What we got for a fairly large $ outlay was good riding and marginal special effects. Overall, all four of us enjoyed the show (especially the second half) but didn't think it was worth the money. The closer sections aren't that much better than the back sections (we moved up), so don't blow a lot of money on good seats.

    Good show

by Iluvpalominos on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Very good show. The beginning was a bit confusing with all the weird pictures and I wasn't a fan of the singing parts. Horses were good except for a few that were coughing and sneezing. A few of the horses were lame, but they take very good care of all the horses and pet them after they do they segment. And there was an awesome palomino! :-)

    ok

by ccccccccccccccccccccccccc on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I would go to this event again if the ticket price was not so high. The show was entertaining but not spectacular. I noticed that the younger kids seemed to really enjoy it.

Most boring show I ever saw. I could hardly wait for the show to be over. I was very disappointed and would not recommend it to anyone.

Forget your money, don't waste your time!

by AngelHorse on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar, CA

For how large-scale Valitar seems, the show itself is majorly lacking. I honestly can't even guess what the story/theme of this show is supposed to me. These days, just about everyone has seen at least one Cirque show. Valitar is charging the same prices as these amazing productions! How is that possible? The stage is entirely too large for what they have (at times just one rider with a dancer or amateur circus performer). It is obvious that some of the people in this show have talent, but what does that matter when there is no vision or story? The music was boring and to me the costumes looked very similar to Cavalia.(I have seen Cavalia a few times). I agree with the other review stating that the Friesian's gates were noticeably throwing some of the riders around. There is even a part of the show with a blond girl bouncing around like crazy attempting to drive a Friesian out in front of the one she's on. As a horse person, this is disappointing. I would think they could find more talent out there. Overall, Valitar has come out with nothing new and in my opinion needs a complete revamp. With how much money looks like it has been invested, I would expect a better show. It feels withthose prices and what they are advertising they are being dishonest and overall robbing innocent spectators. I want my money back.

    AWESOME

by Sejsail on 11/20/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

This is a great / awesome experience. We got the Theme. Man & Horse. The communication, the bonding of Man (human) & horse was very amazing. To witness the horses do controlled natural play in harmony,, it was a wonderful experience. The Horeses are Beautiful. The Violinist was awesome, to see here play in the arena, and the horses resoponded to her music, was, well, if you love animals if you love horses, you will enjoy this.

    Don' Bother

by SoCaIrish on 11/19/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We were very disappointed with the entire program. It was not worth the price that was paid. This was a birthday present for our daughter and it wasn't what was expected.

    Valitar = ADHD

by Lissetta on 11/19/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The best and only consistent parts of Valitar were the beautiful horses and the margaritas. My 10 year old son astutely pointed out there was no theme or story. There was no point. There were no characters developed. It jumped from one thing to the other without warning. The music throughout (with the exception of one talented violin player) was recorded and skipped at least 4 times during the show. The flips were flopped -- looked more like a dress rehearsal. It was boring at times. A huge, expensive, amateur disappointment.

    Poor Translation

by Chunyk on 11/19/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I think that the show has potential but it does not currently translate well. I do not think that the majority of people realize how difficult it is to even ride a horse no less do stunts on one. There was no story line to follow and unfortunately this lets the audience become easily distracted. You had an old world theme and then you had guys on skateboards and trampolines, what was that? Some of the people (one woman in particular) looked like it was her first time riding a horse, She bounced up and down so much I felt bad for the horse. I would think that I horse show would have excellent riders. You are trying to compete with the likes of cirque du soleil but it is far from the équivaillent or even comparable. Poorly put together

    great soundtrack

by immigrant72 on 11/19/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Animals are beautiful and soundtrack is great. Performers are decent. The storyline is a little hard to follow (if there is one)... And you cannot take pics and videos. The show is definitely overpriced.
