About

South African-born New Zealand comedian Urzila Carlson has been a comedic tour de force since first setting foot on the stage in 2008. In 2019 she became the highest-selling comedian in the 33-year history of The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and made her Netflix debut as one of the acts featured in the worldwide comedy series, COMEDIANS of the world. She has become a television favorite by being a series regular on Australia and New Zealand’s versions of the award-winning comedy panel show Have You Been Paying Attention? as well as a contestant on the second season of Taskmaster NZ. She has also won no shortage of awards, taking home the People's Choice Award for most tickets sold at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2019, 2022 and 2023. She has also won the 2019 Rielly Comedy Award from the Variety Artists Club of NZ, Best Female Comedian at the New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards (she’s a six-time winner), the New Zealand International Comedy Festival’s People’s Choice Award in 2014 and 2015, and the Sydney Comedy Festival’s Director’s Choice Award in 2017. Carlson was the 2019 Ambassador of South African Tourism for Australia and New Zealand. Her book, Rolling With the Punchlines, made her a bestselling author in 2016. In 2021 she launched her podcast That’s Enough Already! — which hit the top of the Comedy charts in Australia and New Zealand and won Best New Podcast at the NZ Podcast Awards.

  • What A Fun Evening!

by jKing77 on 6/11/25Cobb's Comedy Club - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Urzilla Carlson puts on a great show and the intimate setting at Cobb's Comedy Club is the perfect venue for her. We laughed a ton and had a great time. Just wish it had been longer.

  • Lots and lots of good laughs

by JV on 6/11/25Cobb's Comedy Club - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the entire vibe of the show. It was a great mix of observational humor, self-deprecation, and slight irreverence. Urzilla had a longer-than-expected set (which is great!), and time just flew by! Urzilla did a fair amount of ad lib, which really added another layer to the show. Overall, I was very, very pleased, and my sides hurt from laughing so much. Thank you for a great evening of laughter and lightheartedness, Urzilla!

  • Under Rated!

This woman is so flipping funny. Still can't believe I was able to grab tickets. I don't know how she is not more widely known because her stand up is so solid and delivers the laughs so regularly. She is way more relatable than people might think.

  • Urzila is the funniest!

by Jenni on 6/1/25Punch Line Philly - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Urzila had me laughing so hard that my sides hurt. She seriously is one of a kind and deserves all the fame. I am glad I got to see her before she is so famous that I can’t afford tickets lol. She is seriously SO funny and so down to earth. I love her and hope I can see her again in the future! I would highly recommend seeing her, especially if you are apart of the lgbtq+ community! But all are welcome!

I have not been in the Wintergarden theatre in 20+ years and it still takes my breath away, what an amazing venue! Urzila Carlson was a HOOT, we laughed until our ribs hurt and are looking forward to her coming back to Canada again!!

  • Hilarious, chaotic and fun

by Aly on 5/27/25The Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Urzila has a brilliant way of captivating the room. She will tell a story and drag you along with the chaos whether or not you like it, and you will like it. Genuinely funny, and a natural comedienne, I will be back to catch her next tour whenever I can :D
