About

Washington Huskies Football at Husky Stadium

Seattle has a long tradition of excellent college football, and the University of Washington Huskies continue the tradition to this day. The Huskies have won 17 conference championships and seven Rose Bowls, and they claim two national championships, in 1960 and 1991. Washington plays at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, which opened in 1920 and seats 70,083. They are coached by Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl win in his first season.

Washington Huskies Football History

The University of Washington Huskies first took to the field in 1889 and have had consistent success since. Gil Dobie led the Huskies during an unprecedented period of success in the early 1900s, leaving with a 58-0-3 record in 1916 as part of a 64-game unbeaten streak and a 40-game winning streak. Washington joined the Pacific Coast Conference in 1916, and helped to found what was then known as the Athletic Association of Western Universities in 1959, which over the years grew into the modern Pac-12 Conference. In 1991, coach Don James, along with quarterback Billie Joe Hobert, offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy and defensive tackle Steve Emtman, led the Huskies to an undefeated season, culminating in a Rose Bowl victory over the Michigan Wolverines, and a share of the national title with Miami. Many legendary players have suited up for the Huskies, including Warren Moon, who led Washington to a Rose Bowl victory in 1978, and fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Hugh McElhenny and Arnie Weinmeister.

While the Huskies have many rivals in the Pac-12 Conference, none are more important than the Washington State Cougars, who they face annually in the Apple Cup. With roots dating back to 1900, the Apple Cup is the traditional final regular-season game for both teams, and in recent years had conference championship implications. In 2018, No. 16 Washington upset No. 8 Washington State 28-15 for their sixth straight Apple Cup victory, and their ninth in 10 years.

    GO DAWGS

by MrMikeM on 9/14/11Husky Stadium - Seattle

The day went great as the Huskies won the game which was perfect as my 11 year old son and I are Dawg fans. I am an alum and the weather was perfect and the game was high scoring which always is fun. We had the tickets on will call through Ticketmaster and all went well.

It sucked because I was surrounded by Husky fans and I was rooting for the Hawaii Warriors. Not to mention that I had Mr. Knows-Everything-There-is-to-know-about-football sitting behind me. This guy felt the need to give his "expert" couch-coaching opinion on every play, while treating everyone in a 10 foot radius to his play by play commentary. Tip to everyone, buy your tickets earlier than 2 days before the game, so you dont get stuck sitting by this guy!

    Husky Stadium dining

by ElJayEs on 7/28/11UW Husky Stadium - Seattle

The so-called food served at UW football games is absolutely ATROCIOUS. It is not only totally tasteless and unhealthy, but also ridiculously expensive. It is downright embarassing and is something to NOT look forward to as part of the Husky FB experience. It does not project a positive image to visitors or locals of UW, its football program or of the Seattle area. I mean blah hot dogs, prepackaged popcorn, pretzels, etc....are you kidding me? Lines for pizza, whlch is still unhealthy but at least has some flavor, are ungodly long. The only decent food seemed to be from Dixie's BBQ and, given the limited choices and the price, it was decent at best. Overall the food is much worse than McD's and is not cheap. I cannot picture another stadium having worse food... My god, WHO is accountabie for this food situation? Hello?

    Watching FB at U Dub

by PNWBruins on 11/22/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Watched the game in the nosebleed section, the best seats I could get before the season even started. The stadium is so-so, good lighting, well maintained, but the design leaves much to be desired. Track around the field prevents close seating, tickets in the second level decks are a waste of money. Couldn't see the replay screen from these seats. Need binoculars to see much of anything. Needed to go all the way down to ground level for best food stands. For a November night game, lucky it did not rain or snow, 37F.

    Dawgs ran all over Bruins!

    by 53ryder on 11/20/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Went to my first Husky football game ever, along with my 14 year old son. We had a great time! Didn't hurt that the Dawgs won either! A bit cold but what does one expect for mid November anyway? Was a long hike up to our seats. I hope the 'renovated' Husky stadium will a little easier to access the nosebleed section! Go Dawgs!

    Stanford Cardinal Rules

by arbrogast on 11/3/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

As a Stanford Cardinal fan how could I not love this game. 41-0 amazing. Sure it rained and it was an away game, but it was fun, we interacted with Husky fans and had a great time.

    Go Stanford!

by Anonymous on 11/1/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

The University of Washington could have done a better job announcing pre-game activities, as this was only my second football game at Husky Stadium and I did not really know what there was. But overall I had WONDERFUL time and was VERY happy to see that my Cardinals pulled out an AMAZING victory!!!

UW Huskies vs Oregon State Beavers

by Anonymous on 10/18/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Game was exciting - down to the wire, action packed. Seats were great, parking SUCKED!!! Provisions were not made for people who parked behind the hospital to access their cars - a very long cold dark walk back to the car as all buildings were locked... Will think twice before going to a night game again - college football should be in the afternoon, (ideally, a clear, sunny day), Definately not in the cold dark October night, with no easy access to your car!!!

    UW vs. OSU

    by danmanz08 on 10/18/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

The seats were pretty much in the nose bleed section. The view of Lake Washington was beautiful, and decent view of the football field. I was a little tired from all the walking that i had to do just to get my row. But I'm glad that my dad and I had a great time watching the game.

    UW vs OSU Football Game

    by WAGuy1 on 10/18/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Awesome game and fun to be at even though we were sitting so high it seemed like we were watching the game from orbit. The venue (Husky Stadium) could use some improvement. From our vantage point you could not see the student section nor hear the band or infamous 'siren' very well. The PA system is poor as well. And, all of the seast are far from the field due to the track that surrounds it. Despite all this, it was a great game and a very fun time.

    Great Game...

by StarFlyr on 10/18/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Great football game between the Huskies and the Beavers. Good seat up in the nose bleed section. With a pair of binoculars the seats were fine. The only negative was the starting time of the game (7:15PM). With the overtime period, the game didn't end until nearly 11PM! I felt like the University of Washington sold out their ticket holders for a little more money from ESPN. This may be the last night game I ever go to, especially after the end of September and this game was played in mid October. For those with a long drive home, I would recommend either a hotel or avoid these late starts.
