About

University of South Carolina Gamecocks Football at Williams-Brice Stadium

There's nothing quite like the energy of SEC Football, and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks are playing the best conference opponents in the nation, year in and year out. National powerhouses like Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn make their way to Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC, every Saturday during college football season, and a Gamecocks game starts well before kickoff. While the 52-acre tailgate area is a proper SEC football pre-game experience, there are also three nearby breweries and a more ready-made fan zone in the Lexington Medical Center Gamecock Village, which opens 4.5 hours before kickoff. Once inside of "The Cock Pit," you're among 80,000+ people in the stadium as the team enters to the strains of "Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30" made famous in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, a game-day tradition for nearly 40 years. If the Gamecocks score a touchdown, the music becomes even more a part of the experience, with Darude's "Sandstorm" blasting after every touchdown. Plain and simple, Gamecock football games are a big deal. The team has ended the year in the Top 25 six times since 2000, and even the mascot, Cocky, is — no joke — a four-time national champion mascot. Every home game sells out, because who wouldn't want to watch SEC Players of the Year like defensive end Jadeveon Clowney or running back Marcus Lattimore? The sun shines strong on Saturday in Columbia, so don't forget to put on sunscreen, and as long as you're wearing garnet and black, you'll fit right in.

University of South Carolina Gamecocks Football History

College Football's South Carolina Gamecocks play their games at the 80,250-capacity Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC. Since 2010, the stadium has undergone $30 million in renovations, including the installation of a giant 36-foot-high by 124-foot-wide HD video board and the lush Springs Brooks Plaza promenade entrance. A decorated college football program to say the least, the team has been coached in the past by Hall of Famers Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier, while current head coach Will Muschamp has taken the Gamecocks to a bowl game every year of his tenure. The program has churned out quality NFL talent in players like the great Sterling Sharpe, former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and Super Bowl winners Stephon Gilmore and Alshon Jeffery.

by Anonymous on 10/11/09Williams Brice Stadium - Columbia

It was a great day for football! The weather cooperated and it was a very nice day. The game was down to the last minute, the score was close, and of course, the home team won. The tickets worked out to be very convenient and the seats were great also. Thanks to Ticketmaster, we all ( 7 of us) had a really good time. Ready to go again!

University of South Carolina Gamecocks vs. SCSU

by USCbandmom on 10/9/09Williams Brice Stadium - Columbia

Game was good - USC won! Bands were fabulous, both of them!! Traffic control was the worst I've ever seen! Streets blocked everywhere and police didn't appear to know the first thing about moving traffic!!

My first Gamecock game was all that I hoped it would be and more! Going to the game was a last minute decision. Ticketmaster made it so easy to get a ticket, print at home and left nothing to chance. Choosing a ticket, registering, and the ticket in hand took less than five minutes. Almost too easy. I will use ticketmaster again and again in the future.

scsu band was great, usc band sucks ass compared to scsu, the game was boring no excitement, loss of power with the replay screen made things worse, we won but it was not the best

Great game once USC finally started playing. Seat were a little to high up to enjoy the full experience, nothing to hold the noice in at the top of the stadium.

Rude fan can ruin your time.

by NotGoingBack on 10/4/09Williams Brice Stadium - Columbia

The game would have been much better had I not been seated next to a very rude fan. Apparently people who buy tickets on ticketmaster do not deserve the same respect (or leg room) as those who have season tickets (or so they say.) I am sure my experience was not the norm; however, it ruined the Gamecock football experience to the point that I would not go back to a South Carolina football game.

    two differnt teams

by bummie on 10/4/09Williams Brice Stadium - Columbia

It was an exciting football game. two different teams showed up to play. The 1st half team could not get on track. they struggled on offense and defense. After the half time the gamecocks were a different team The defense allowed zero scoring during the last two quarters. The offense picked up the pace and scored 28 points, 21 in the third quarter.

    Great game!!

by ClemsonTigers92 on 9/27/09Williams Brice Stadium - Columbia

The game was great. It was a very entertaining game to watch and the seats were great. There were no problems with printing out my tickets from my computer and having them scan at the game. It was a very unique experience to see USC knock off the #4 team in the nation too. Im not even a Carolina fan, but rather a Clemson fan and i thoroughly enjoyed the game.

    Great Facility

by TheKingofSC on 9/26/09Williams Brice Stadium - Columbia

Williams Brice Stadium is 75 years old but has held up well thanks to continuing renovations. The stadium is clean and well maintained. The Gamecocks 2001 entrance and the halftime show were awesome as was the band. The crowd was one of the loudest, and best behaved, that I have seen. The stadium is in a rather unattractive warehouse area in Columbia. This is a real plus when you need to park your vehicle. Parking within a 10 minute walk to the stadium is around $25.
