This Doo Wop Show was absolutely fabulous!

by Oaknut on 6/30/16Beacon Theatre - New York

I had never been to a Doo Wop show before. I bought the tickets as a Father's Day gift for my husband. He loves Doo Wop music. I was completely surprised at how great the entire show was - from the Chantalls to one of the Platters. So, so many songs, so many performers. I loved it and so did my husband!

I loved the Marcels the best.

by queenlatifa on 6/28/16Beacon Theatre - New York

I am glad to see that Doo- Wop shows are still available and people are going to see them. I loved all the groups but I thought Barbara Lynn was fantastic when she played the guitar while singing "if you should lose me, you'll lose a good thing". I also loved the Marcels when they did a medley of songs. The staging was orchestrated well and kept the switching of the groups running smooth. My mom introduced me to Doo-Wop many years ago and I still love it to this day. Shows the true talent of the human voice and love the harmonies and also the artists are well dressed when performing.

    EXCELLENT SHOW BUT ----

by tcats54 on 6/28/16Beacon Theatre - New York

the show was excellent as well as the performers. BUT, the only thing that disturbed me and irked me was the fact that the marcels did not pay tribute or acknowledge the fact thqat one of there members recently passed on. i thought that was rude and soooo disrespectful to the family of the deceased. no matter what their off stage relationship was, they still played together for over 40 years, and it certainly would not have not any harm in acknowledging that member at all. too me, that really is messed up. but, what goes around comes around. maurice williams had the courtesy and descency of acknowledging the fact that davi sommerville formerly of the diamonds passed on last year. that was really so honorable of him. and i respect him so much and thought he waas absolutely terrific !!! other than that the show itself was fantastic.. loved every moment under the marcels performed that is.

Those Oldies but Goodies: The Ultimate DooWop Show

    by DooWhopper on 6/16/15

I wouldn't call it the ultimate, unless I was referring to the age of the performers. It was a wonderful evening because these performers in their late 60s, 70s and some cases 80s, gave their all. I don't like the duckwalking Henry. His comments are full of hyperbole and it is evident that he is tired of repeating the same thing over and over. The performers however, no matter how many times they sing the same song, are full of authentic emotion. That can't be said for too many of the fill-in performers who are younger and don't Get It. For me, the primary example of this was a young hyperactive guy in the gold shirt who seemed to be the court jester for the blue-jacketed group from Detroit. He doesn't get that as emotive as DooWop is, it was never frenetic or hyper. It was always smooth.

Jimmy Beaumont was in great voice

    by PJSDAD on 6/16/15

Thw whole show was excellent as this annual event usually is. Jimmy Beaumont was in great voice, as was the other groups especially the Vogues, Tymes and the Marcels.

    The concert was great!

    by TrebleClef15 on 6/16/15

There is only one small snafu. Some concert goers started to dance both in the aisles and in their seats. The ushers were quick to come over and tell them all to be seated. That happened twice in the evening, as the dancers were told they could not dance at their seats. They then went to the aisles during the next set of songs and the ushers returned again. The ushers finally explained that no one can stand at all during the concert at our seats or the aisles. We were all to remain seated. That was upsetting. But, other than that the night was great! The performers were wonderful, the playlists were fantastic! I recommend this concert to anyone who loves Doo Wop! Just maybe reconsider attending it at the Beacon Theater.

    Great Show

    by tcats54 on 6/16/15

Although I felt that last year's (2014) performances were somewhat better, as they had more of a lineup, this show was terrific and I am looking forward to next year's event. I felt that they had a better lineup last year than this year but, all the performers were just terrific and i loved them!

    Doo Wop Show

    by JanetD2 on 6/16/15

I attended the Ultimate Doo Wop Show this past Saturday night. Haven't been to one in a very long time. I love the oldies and enjoyed singing to my favorites and seeing some of the originals from the bands. The only thing I did not like is that The Beacon Threatre has a bar and allows people to bring drinks to their seats and I had a bunch of drunken loud mouths behind me that were distracting me so much I had to move to a different seat during intermission. At over $200 for 2 people for sitting in Row U, I think it's pretty steep to have to be distracted by people like this!! That's what bothered me most but again, all-in-all, the show was great!!

Loved hearing the sounds of the late 50's and 60's. The music brought back so many wonderful memories. Loved the Thymes. Edsels, the Vogues. The Marcel's...all the acts had great energy, great dance moves and smooth harmony! A must see!

doo-wop was great entertainment! Enjoyed the show

by cookiehorse on 1/5/15Grand Casino Hinckley Event Center - Hinckley

would recommend for any age!! My only complaint would be one of the microphones was way too loud and so was hard to understand from that one--show was lively, and enjoyed it very much
