Let me tell you - if you wanted proof that doowopp music is ALIVE and WELL in New York City, look no further than this show at the Beacon Theatre. With Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners and the Contours, not to mention Shirley Alston-Reeves and Cathy Jean and the Roommates on the bill, this was a WINNER!! Highlight for me - the Contours - man, I had heard about them and seen them in videos, but in person they were on fire!! Their harmonies were tight, their dancing was even tighter...and the Tymes - ah, man, they were GREAT - just sweet and SO TIGHT...and then seeing Cathy Jean and the Roommates for me - this lady STILL knows how to put on a show, let me tell you!! My only beef - they should have used the group Free Expression to open up the show instead of the group they used - Free Expression, who was at last year's Beacon show - I mean, these people can SING!!
It was fabulous from start to finish!!!!!! It was great to go to a show and know all the words to every song!!!!
I made a trip to new york to see several concerts and this was one of the best. Brought back lots of memories.
