    3A Marching Band Championship

by Robin on 11/7/21Alamodome - San Antonio

The day before I injured my R knee and was on crutches. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get around the Alamodome. To my pleasant surprise, Juan, came along with his golf cart and told me to get in, he would take me to the door. He then proceeded to tell me to ask for a w/c to get me to my seat! He was there for me when we cleared out after prelims and there for me to get me to/from the finals. It was WAY more pleasant experience than I had anticipated, and I thank Juan for that! Thank you Juan! Alamodome, you have a fabulous employee in Juan!

    Awful

by Hsmonk on 11/6/21Alamodome - San Antonio

The event itself was amazing. However the fact that we could not park on site was horrible. We had to park extremely far away. If you are going to host an even this large, you better have parking available. Or at the least provide a shuttle to and from the parking garages.

We were there to support our granddaughter and her band. All of the bands in the contest were amazing. All contestants displayed their hard work and dedication. The Alamodome was superb, it didn’t disappoint.

    No parking

by Upset band parent on 11/6/21Alamodome - San Antonio

There was no parking at the Alamodome for spectators. The only parking lot available was blocked off for a COVID vaccination clinic. When I tried to park in handicap parking, was told there was none. Pretty pricey tickets for no on site parking in my opinion. Parking lots surrounding the area took FULL advantage of the no parking situation.

    Four stars for UIL 5A

by Juls on 11/5/21Alamodome - San Antonio

Parking was the only hassle. We were thankful for a ride to Cherry St. after prelims on Monday provided by a golf cart and lovely gentleman.

    Great event, nice venue

by Liz on 11/5/21Alamodome - San Antonio

Only disappointments were no paper programs- those were the best keepsakes, and no cash accepted. So many of the kids don’t have credit cards and were struggling to get food abs drinks :-(

    State marching band competition

by Ruth on 11/8/19Alamodome - San Antonio

Having the e-ticket allowed me to save time in lines to enjoy my event. I didn’t have to keep up with a paper ticket to show over and over again. I enjoyed the event and venue very much.

Event was great - 50/50 on the event

    by C. M. on 11/7/19Alamodome - San Antonio

Nice place- easy to get in and out. Everything super expensive and lots of different choices of food but no tables or place to sit and eat your food.

1A/2A Spit apart to make better for the contest.

by BestOfTheWest on 3/18/17Alamodome - San Antonio, TX

Coming from a small town can be challenging. That is before 2015, the 1A and 2A would have to complete against each other to head to state, that all changed in 2015 when the UIL had a contest pilot for the 1A, meaning they would not have to complete at Area against the bigger and better 2A schools. My school's Area was tough, my school (New Deal,) We would have to complete against some stronger sounding schools like Sundown, and Forsan. New Deal has came a long way from competition, getting division 1's, advancing to Area and not advancing to State till for the first time in School history back in 2013. 2013, New Deal advanced to the state level where we finished 6th in the state for 1A. 2015 was a different story, we advanced to state once again and we won fair and square, beating out Sundown for 2nd, Carlisle 3rd. This venue is more then amazing, they have unbelievable views through the stadium, I would never trade my memories for nothing. I fell in love with it when I came here in 2013, and it felt more amazing when we got to come back in 2015. I would never change a thing! Can't wait for this Nov. when New Deal defends the title!!!!!! #LIONPRIDE

Amazing work for high school student

by Anonymous on 11/11/16Alamodome - San Antonio

Excellent representation of hard work, dedication and passion for what you do. Is unbelievable what these high school students can do. Band directors and an amazing group of parent have to be acknowledged on each one of these presentations.

    Marching Bands

by JMCLMaSs on 11/10/16Alamodome - San Antonio

This was my first trip to the U.I.L. State Marching Band Championships and my first event in the Alamodome. The marching bands and their performances were amazing and so inspiring. So much hard work by all of these students. What dedication!! The Alamodome was spectacular except for the stadium seats. Too cramped and thank God I brought my seat cushion.

    Unforgetable event!

    by proud2bbandmom on 11/6/15Alamodome - San Antonio

It takes a lot of talent and hard work from all involved to coordinate performances at this level. Thanks to the UIL Texas officials, educators and band members for working so hard to achieve great things, and kudos to the parents who support their schools. Although the parking was a major issue, I'm so glad we took three days out of our work week to travel to San Antonio.

    bands were good

by SilentRaven on 11/6/15Alamodome - San Antonio

Event was nice and way over priced (food, shirts, and event entry). The event was judged more on the how many props the bands can use and not the mar hing or music. All the bands that were in the finals had the most props and performed a musical rather than any marching.

    Great day of music!

by TexasBD on 11/5/15Alamodome - San Antonio

Instrumental music is alive and well in Texas! This competition was incredible, and truly showcases the talents of Texas band students. It does make for a long day if you attend prelims and finals, but it is worth it!
