Praised by NPR, Stereogum, WNYC and The Huffington Post, Tyler Ramsey is a multi-instrumentalist equally at home playing guitar, piano, keyboards, bass and percussion, but is best known as a talented finger-style guitarist and singer-songwriter. A well-established and acclaimed guitar player and singer in the burgeoning western North Carolina music scene, where he calls home, he first learned to play music on piano before moving to the guitar. Ramsey grew up listening to and studying country-blues guitar players like Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi John Hurt, and American finger pickers like John Fahey and Leo Kottke, absorbing their sound and making it all his own.
What a great show - Tyler Ramsey with a couple of friends backing up his great new album New Lost Ages and songs from previous albums. Really exceptional. Neal Casal told me about Tyler and how much he loved Tyler's music. He was so right as he was in all things music! Thank you Tyler - Thank you Neal :)
Superb guitar work and harmonies from two master singer-songwriters. Too many people missed out on this show.
The was a very intimate performance of Tyler Ramsey and Carl Broemel, and it was absolutely beautiful. The Columbia City Theater is a super small, cozy space with great sound. The two shared the stage for most of the evening moving back and forth between their catalogues with a short break in the middle for each of them to play a couple of songs each solo. It was so great to hear them sing together on each other's songs. Their voices blend so well. I'm hoping they put out a recording together after this tour! I'm really a huge Carl fan and it was so cool to hear him play his songs without a full band in such an intimate setting, and the 4th of July -> Pink Moon -> 4th of July was just incredible!
Great show by two great musicians. If this wasn't the last night of the tour i would be going again.
Tyler Ramsey (and Carl Broemel) are can't miss world class musicians. It's unfortunate that they were booked at my least favorite venue, but they're good enough and this opportunity was so rare that I didn't care.
