About

With a few words, Tyler Childers can build worlds.

A plain-spoken poet for the dreams and struggles of a working class, his music takes listeners to real places - backroad church pews, sticky-hot swimming holes and freshly-plowed farm fields, to name a few. Childers' melodies feel lived-in, like joining a circle of familiar faces in a well-worn basement or on a shaded porch, the gathering place for folks of all kinds to share truths or swap tall tales after a long day.

Since he emerged from the hills of Appalachia, Childers has stormed the world with his uncompromising voice and a candid collection of songs. He skyrocketed from playing inside sweat-soaked clubs to becoming one of today's most sought-after artists. With his longtime band, The Food Stamps, Childers headlines historic festival stages and delivers high-flying sold-out shows inside arenas, amphitheaters and concert halls across the globe.

And many who time-and-again drop a needle on his music embrace Childers like an author to a new chapter in America's long, revered songbook of country and folk music - a testament to how far a well-told story can travel.

No matter if he's delivering a fiddle tune with a hard-spoken truth or leading his band in an open-armed country-soul sermon, new Childers music arrives with layers of time-tested storytelling. And on his anticipated new album, Rustin' In The Rain, the circle of tales in Childers' catalog grows a little bigger with a fresh collection of big-hearted, wry-humored love songs and dirt-covered country romps.

The 2x Grammy Award-nominated singer, songwriter and musician returned to the studio with The Food Stamps - James Barker (pedal steel), Craig Burletic (bass), CJ Cain (guitar), Rodney Elkins (drums), Chase Lewis (keyboards) and Jesse Wells (guitar, fiddle) - to record Rustin'. In a testament to the well-oiled grooves of the group, it's the second consecutive release to be cut and co-produced by Childers alongside the Food Stamps, once again recording at Barker's home studio, Dragline, in Huntington, West Virginia.

With Rustin' In The Rain, the 32-year-old Kentucky native pulled together songs with a playful concept: What would he pitch to Elvis Presley? Graceland-era Presley, to be exact. Listeners hear the result on songs like lead single "In You Love" - a timeless, piano-tinged I'll-wait-for-your-love ballad released alongside a heart-wrenching music video of two men falling for each other in 1950s rural Appalachia - and "Phone Calls & Emails," a story of modern missed connections set to the backdrop of a crooning, classic country tune.

On "Luke 2:8-10," Childers enlists background vocals from a one-of-a-kind trio: Margo Price, Erin Rae and S.G. Goodman, three standout singer-songwriters. The expanded band delivers a rustling three-minute song about a panicked shepherd witnessing the descent of an angel from the heavens. Collaborations on Rustin' continue on "Percheron Mules," a rollicking tune that includes vocals from Ronnie McCoury, Jason Carter and Alan Bartram -members of ace bluegrass band the Travelin' McCourys (McCoury also adds mandolin pickin' to the song).

And for one of two cover songs on Rustin', Childers dug into country music's balladeering catalog to unearth "Help Me Make It Through The Night." He lends his mountainous vocal to the intimate, restless 1970 song, written by Kris Kristofferson and made famous by Sammi Smith's Grammy Award-winning rendition (Presley also covered the song during a 1971 session at RCA Studio B in Nashville). To close the album, Childers covers "Space & Time," a song penned by Goodman - a fellow Kentuckian - that chronicles the need to share moments with those you hold most dear. Goodman and Rae rejoin Childers for backing vocals on the album-closing number.

Still, no new song may whip Childers' show-going audience into a frenzy like "Rustin' In The Rain," the barnstormin' opening track anchored by dueling country licks and Childers' band-leading howl - a nod to the tight-knit creatively he and the Food Stamps earned during late nights on stage and long trips on the road.

With Rustin' In The Rain, Childers pens the next chapter in an unrivaled and unreplicable story of real-life success that continues to reach new circles. And the best part? This tale's just getting started.

    Best Ever

by Richie on 4/30/23Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Tyler has a few albums and other recordings available, but none of them gave his live performance justice! It was AMAZING!!! Oh by the way Charlie Crockett was great too! He didn’t get much love from the crowd. But I loved him and his band!!!

Fantastic Tyler and Charley concert, perfect billing.

Fantastic Tyler and Charley concert, perfect billing. Unfortunately the video camera and operator blocked most of the show. Surely they could use a remote camera at the venue if they have to put one right in front of the artist?

    Bummed

by Jayaycee on 4/30/23Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

We were eager to hear his originals - Nose on the Grindstone, Feathered Indians, Charleston Girl, etc. but not one of the above were played. All of his new stuff, which is good, but that’s not what made us love his music in the first place. Look at his Spotify top 5 - all of those should have been played no question. Total bummer. Also, we were expecting him to play some like his old concerts - just him and his guitar or the banjo, so that was another big bummer. Too much of his new stuff not enough of his original stuff

    Amazing Performance

by Country Mama on 4/30/23Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Tyler Childers was AMAZING live! He started off the show singing with just his guitar and he sounded so good. Then his band came out and they rocked for the next hour plus. the energy he brings to his show is felt throughout the crowd as we all sang along to every word. Cannot wait to see him again!

    A bit bummed

    by H on 4/30/23Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

He’s an amazing musician overall. His voice is flawless and you can feel the emotion when he sings. Unfortunately, he didn’t play half of the songs we were excited to hear, so by the end of the night we were a bit disappointed having paid $500 without hearing those.

    Love Tyler but......

by Fan on 4/27/23Arizona Financial Theatre - Phoenix

I've seen TTC twice, once at red rocks and in AZ, AZ is by far the worst crowd of people I have ever attended with at a concert. I am an AZ native, these people in the pit were mean, pushing you around to steal your spot, screaming and yelling at people for no reason, just down outright rude nasty people. Also don't be surprised if he does not sing your favorites. You pay a lot of money to hear many songs he has not recorded or that he is covering for another band. The financial theatre is a great venue, clean, small, great workers, easy bathroom access with no long lines.

    Great performance

Great concert. Tyler is amazing and passionate. Venue could have been a little cooler, it got pretty muggy/ warm towards the end. But Tyler made up for it.

Tyler was awesome, people are rude, weather made it tough

by SHY on 4/25/23The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Tyler Childers and his band were fantastic! As a 61 yr. old man who plays guitar and appreciates roots music, I was the "old guy", but truly enjoyed his talent and energy. Sometimes live performances are a disappointment - Tyler's was impressive! I would rate him 11 stars if I could. Sadly, so many people around us were holding conversations during Tyler's songs. Especially during his solo acoustic set, I never heard a word he spoke between songs, and barely heard the songs themselves. I was willing to pay nearly $300 per ticket for my son/daughter and myself to be close to the stage in the pit, but after listening to so many rude people talk through his songs I believe I made a mistake. Finally, bad weather cut things short (and ruined the night for John R Miller). I will NOT attend another concert in a venue that can be affected by the weather, especially in Dallas, TX in the springtime. Tyler, thank you for a wonderful performance. Please keep writing these beautiful, heartfelt songs!

    Incredible

    by L. W. on 4/24/23

To start off, I noticed that Tyler had honey on the stage with him. Based off of his power with his voice, and the fact that he did not let up even a little bit on the belting notes and doing that little screech, he does that we all love, no one would have ever known that he had a sore throat. I cannot recommend seeing him live enough. If you are a fan, see him live if you get the chance!!

    Rained out

by Nicole on 4/23/23The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

From making attendees wait over two hours for someone to come on to canceling the concert a few songs into the evening, this concert experience was far below average. It felt like the artist came on for a few songs so they wouldn’t be able to cancel the show and have to refund the attendees their money. I am doubtful if I will ever attend another show at this venue during spring. Waste of money.

    Off night

by JL on 4/23/23The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Due to the weather delay, the opener band was cancelled. Was terrible for the fans on the lawn. Eventually when Tyler came out- he sang 2 songs & announced something that no one could hear. I was in GA section front & center & I couldn’t understand it. His demeanor was off and when he announced that he was singing his last song - he sat down & sang and when it was over he pushed the microphone away - said a thank you & walked off the stage. Songs were great but you could see & feel that it may not have been great for him. Come on - a sea of people there & he could have been a little more grateful.

    Tyler, we want more.

by Cotton Cutie on 4/23/23The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

It was an awesome concert…for how long it lasted. It was a pretty bummer deal that he only played for a quarter of the time he was suppose to.

Tyler Childers was great, but I was upset with Toyota MF

by Sarah on 4/23/23The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

It started raining during the opening act and we all had to evacuate the lawn and go inside. Even though we were all inside at that point, the opener did not continue to play, instead we all sat inside for around 2 hours with no updates. After there was no more lightning, we got the green light to go back outside, where Tyler got to play for 20 minutes before it started hailing and the show was canceled. I know you obviously cannot control the weather, but in my opinion, Toyota Music Factory did a terrible job of handing the situation. We did not receive any apologies or compensation. I would give this review 1 star, but Tyler put on a great show for the few minutes that we saw him.

    The best ever!

    by Bailey on 4/17/23

One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. We got there on time and were almost to the front row. Tyler and his band played from 9:15 to 11:30pm. Everybody was so extraordinarily talented. The last few songs he let his band go and played some acoustic songs. To get the most out of his shoes you have to see his face! The emotions are priceless
