TV ON THE RADIO IN CONCERT:

Acclaimed Brooklyn indie band TV on the Radio thrilled fans in late 2014 with the release of Seeds, their first album since the 2011 death of their bassist Gerard Smith. The record was a triumph for the band on numerous fronts -- a tribute to a departed friend, a commitment to pressing on, and, in the opinion of frontman Tunde Adebimpe, their finest work to date. Critics and fans agreed, applauding the album's potent blend of synthpop and art rock and hailing tracks like "Happy Idiot" and "Careful You" as instant classics. TVOTR are a powerhouse live act known for their technical virtuosity and effortless cool, and their visceral performances on tour always treat ticket buyers to the perfect blend of arty indie rock and straight-ahead rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

TV on the Radio was formed in Brooklyn in 2001 by singer Tunde Adebimpe and guitarist David Andrew Sitek. They self-released their debut album OK Calculator the following year, promoting it by passing it out on sidewalks and leaving it in local cafes. Coffee shop buzz gave way to international acclaim in 2004 with their studio debut Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, an ambitious and eclectic record that charted in the UK and made them critical darlings overnight. Their rise continued in 2006 with the album Return to Cookie Mountain, a critical benchmark that featured vocal contributions from David Bowie and dominated year-end lists. They cemented their crossover success with 2008's Dear Science and 2011's Nine Types of Light, both of which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. In the wake of bassist Gerard Smith's unexpected death in 2011 the band went quiet for a few years, but they returned in 2014 with their highly anticipated fifth album Seeds.

TV On the Radio in Summerstage

by jlagrass on 7/14/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

I thought for sure that TV On the Radio would rock the house, but the sound was off. They were all over the place and played a very short set. Overall I don't think I'd buy tickets to see them again, but I was glad that I went.

TV on the Radio was rockin'

by BitterBarista on 7/14/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

I don't now too many TV on the Radio songs, but I knew I liked their sound enough to see them in concert. The lead singers energy was amazing and the band in general rocked. I unfortunately missed the Dirty Projectors set, but the show was very fun.

    TVOTR rainy evening

by edouble on 7/14/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

They were absolutely fantastic! Although it rained for the beginning of the concert they played great and sounded great. They played so many of my favorite songs more so than when I saw them at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple. I would definitely go see them again and again and again.

    TVOTR

by firebright on 7/14/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

I thought this show was pretty great. HOB Boston was a nice venue.... and sold out! I think the sound was decent, but wished for a longer set list. The encore featured the Dirty Projectors joining the stage which was cool, though I'm not a huge fan of theirs.

Worth standing in the rain: TV on the Radio

by thankgod4myponcho on 7/14/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

My husband and I were afraid we would be miserable standing in the downpour soaking Central Park. TV On the Radio's powerful performance warmed our souls and rocked our wet socks off! Their creative sound presentation and generosity of spirit made this concert a must-see.

Best concert I've ever been to.

by armando on 7/13/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

All the songs were simply as good or much better than their album versions. And watching Tunde dancing on the scenario, sharing his energy and passion is very exciting.

TV on the Radio delievered a SOLID performance

by WinnipegWriter on 7/13/09Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

After hearing TVOTR back in 2007 for the first time, I knew I liked what I heard. Their style of blending gritty guitar and saxophone with catchy synth and driving acoustics sucks you right into their East coast sound. I didn't think the show would measure up to 2009's Dear Science studio album (since I'm sometimes a hard sell on live versions of songs I truly appriciate), but it met my expectations and then some. If you haven't seen them you should. Tunde Adebimpe is highly amusing to watch.

TV on the Radio / Fox Theater

by yjunior on 7/13/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

TV on the Radio was amazing. This is the 2nd time I have seen them and they never disappoint. This is my first trip to the Fox Theater, though. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone. Incredible atmosphere.

    Sweet TV to my ears

by PtotheT on 7/13/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Simply an amazing show, in my new favorite venue in the bay area. I was worried that TV on the Radio's immense sound wouldn't translate in a live setting, but the extra musicians hired for the tour really made the music sound like the album, only better. They played for a good while, definitely not too short. Excellent song selection, excellent performance, excellent night.

    Great show, lots of energy!

by smokey on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

The opening band was kind of weird... I remember the chick lead singer sitting with the band shirts after their set. She was looking hella pissed (maybe because the shirts weren't selling...) TV on the Radio was great! That white guy on the guitar was going crazy. They really put their hearts and souls into the performance. Very enjoyable show. I remember i sat in the box seats and we had a waitress that brought us beer, food and candy throughout the night. I've been to tons of shows, but this was the first one with a waitress... I'd have a better review except i didn't receive this notification for writing a review until 2 months after the show.

    Uncommon Excellence

by nobody478 on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Rarely will you find a band that embodies creativity and musicianship who also is able to exude passion and entertainment. They were the band of 2008...and they are not loosing momentum!

    Fun time!

by pladont on 7/12/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I really enjoyed this event. Even though my friend and I were far away from the stage in the balcony we still had a great time. TV on the Radio was awesome. On all of their fast songs we got out of seats and danced, as did everyone else. I love their slow songs, but they don't translate well live, especially after the energy was so very high during their faster songs. But I had a great time nonetheless and the Fox Theater was gorgeous and very nice. Great band, great time!

    TV was electric!!

by syrahizzle on 7/12/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

This band once again blew my mind. The high energized set list and performances made me jump around the whole show. Although it may be hard to believe, but they sounded better live than any cd they are on!

TV on the Radio will rock you

by Wario on 7/12/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

No other band is doing what these guys are doing. Try to see them in a small venue if possible - I think this helps to hear all the intricacies of their music. If you're hearing them in a large venue I recommend getting as close as possible even if it costs a bit more. This band has a great unique sound and is fun to watch.
