Took a friend from Colorado. It was a lovely event with a great crowd.
TSO was pretty good, it's really hard to put this sort of production on. They sounded great except certain parts did not sound full or the bass lines were not playing loud enough but that could have been due to the seat I was in. It was awesome to see and hear Fantasia live! However, I am only rating it four stars due to a trombone coming in measures early, I don't remember when. Also for the orchestra not following the conductor during Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, the orchestra pulled the beat back so much that they were a measure off by the time the lightening struck. This poor timing happened a few other times but it was not as noticeable. Like I said doing a production live like this is really difficult, I took part in a recording project with animation and it's super difficult getting the time correct when it's not live. Overall, I enjoyed the concert and was happy with the visual and audio aspects.
What a wonderful event - full of nostalgia for me and my daughter who grew up on Fantasia!
This was an enjoyable event and brought back many childhood memories. The TSO was wonderful. So glad we went!!
The coordination of the orchestra with the film is a non-trivial feat. I was completely wrapped in what was going on. The music all I can say is I loved it!! and seeing the film on a large screen was great. Really understand the power potential of music video. Wish there were more to see like this.
Beautiful music that took my grandchildren away on a magical journey to Fantasia! Twin 5 year old boys both agreed that it was the "Best thing ever!"
Overall, the concert was great. The orchestra was excellent. Nonetheless, not all people in the public have the ability to admire this type of performance, and you could find some "sub-cultured" persons who spent most of the time either talking, or eating junk food (noisy and smelly) while the orchestra was performing. Even though the presentation was aimed to a popular audience, it wouldn't be a bad idea advising people to not talk or behave as if they were in a movie theatre, at least during the performance.
We loved Fantasia. I attended with my three year old daughter. She was enthralled for the entire show and asked at the end of each song if there would be another one. This will become a family tradition for us. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra played beautifully. It is so special to watch Fantasia with a live orchestra!
An absolute enjoyable evening. Was impressed with the seats.
This show was awsome! First time hearing our symphony and I look foward for future events.
Once again, TSO put on an exceptional performance, highlighting the talent of their virtuous Concertmaster Lauren Roth. The venue, Catalina Foothills High School auditorium, has excellent acoustics, and is small enough to have a great views from every seat. It's wonderful that the TSO is willing to come to the community to perform. I recommend any performance they have at this venue.
Superlative performance by the pianist. Overall, the entire concert was wonderful to hear.
The pianist and his Rachmaninoff was great! Dvorak is not a favorite of mine, but the guest conductor was excellent.
This was our first visit to the Catalina High School music hall. We were very impressed with its overall design and comfort and the acoustics were excellent. It is a great place for presenting symphonic music. The conductor displayed great mastery of the music in timing, tone variation and the blending of the varied instruments so the overall effect was, indeed, amazing. The musicians, as usual, were very accomplished.
Great music, people, food, venue We went home and bought our ticket for TMA this spring.
The TSA was great. Jose Luis Gomez, the guest conductor, was animated and precise. Chee-Yun, the soloist, was breathtaking. She made my wife cry a few times. It was a great experience.
Fantastic! We were up front and and intimately drawn by one of the world's most talented violinists.
This was our first time going to the Tucson Symphony since we moved here. The conductor was amazing, the musicians were top notch, and the guest violinist was absolutely magnificent. I would recommend any performance by the symphony to all of my friends.
Pianist solos by Lefevre were fantastic - a great combination of talent & music. Coupled with the other parts of the program meant a wonderful evening.
