Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

  • Unorganized, waste of money

    by dulie21 on 9/11/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Very unorganized, the line up's were so long they closed down the dressing room and pictures with the players for a period of time but that did nothing to help, line up's were HOURS long, and it was hit and miss if you even got to see a player you wanted to. Big waste of money, basically paid money to walk around the ACC..

  • unorganized but fun

    by 1232132 on 9/11/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

It was really cool to see parts of the acc I've never seen before but the overall event needs to be better in terms of schedule of events so ppl aren't waiting for 7hrs n not actually getting an autograph. I on the other hand, chose to do things that didn't have a 12 hr lone up but that just meant I didn't get to do everything. Bottom line is, If you organize it better it will be a fivestar rated event for sure

We waited in line for 4 hours to meet the players so we weren't really able to do much more. I watched the security guard unplugg the Rogers recharge station and tell everyone it was broken meanwhile he had unplugged it from the wall. My phone died and I wasn't able to take pixtures with any of the players. It was very upsetting!

  • Leafs Fan Fest was amazing!!

    by Benj22 on 9/11/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a great time we had at Leafs Fan Fest!! It was very well organised, lots to do. Couldnt get the autographs at it was soooo packed but it was nice seeing such a great turnout !! Will definetly be back next year!!

  • Good times at fan fest

    by Alati123 on 9/11/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

My 4 year old son and I had a nice time at fam fest. The kid area and interactive games where fun. Some of the line ups where crazy! Dropping the puck a center, getting autographs on the 300 level, seeing the leafs dressing room had the longest lines. Getting to the event early can defiantly help! All in all we had a fun time met a few players walking the halls of acc. I would probably go again next year. Cheers

  • Leafs Fan fest

    by DBH39 on 9/11/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great thrill to meet Maple Leafs players, both old and new. I really enjoyed shaking hands with my heroes from the older teams. Nearly best of all was seeing the memorabilia down through the decades from the formation of the team. I also found the staff to be more than helpful and very friendly!

  • Fanfest very unorganized.

by Kcarrr on 9/11/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

My boyfriend and I went to leafs fan fest on Saturday. And it was not worth the money I paid. It was very unorganized and we didn't get to do a lot of the things because of the rediculous long lines. I didn't like the way the players changed every hour and waiting 3 hours in line to not know what player your going to end up with. Near the puck drop you couldn't tell what line was for what. It was rediculous. Luckily we got to do the puck drop which was one of the only things we got to do. I am also not please about having to wait in line for a wrist band to get into the dressing room when I already paid over 100$ to go to leafs fest in the first place. This is supposed to be all included so why am I waiting in line to get a wrist band then to go and wait in another god awful lineup. I was not impressed.

  • fan fest was unforgetable!

    by leafsfan01 on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

It was better organized than Saturday.Lines were long but most moved quick.People were friendly and very helpful. Enjoyed the opportunity to tour arena and meet present and former players.

  • TML fanfest

by JaxJennifer on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Overall, we had a great time. Parking was easy to find and they opened the doors on time. It was nice that we had a quick entry and that we could bring drinks/snacks in with us. It was a little unorganized, hot and was not "out of town" friendly. We didn't get a chance to get autographs because it was just too busy. We were told that we could sign up for these events. But that is not how it played out.

  • Cool event line ups were horrid

by moansy on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

It was awesome to see the ACC in a different way then is possible during the year. Line ups to meet players were crazy and no sane human would go in them. The games in the middle were cool. More interactive things would have been awesome. It was a first so its tough to gauge but I would come back next year

  • leaf fan fest

    by wenjon11 on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

This event was great big dissappointment. The event was not well thought out and left many fans upset. Many exciting promises were made to receive autographs, pictures, and other things, but the event was over booked leaving out many people to experience this. For what was advertised on the web site was false, tickets were over priced for this event. False advertising led people to believe many surprises would be added towards the final day of the event. I would not reccomend this event to any one.

  • Leafs FanFest2014 was HUGE success

Complete waste of time. Poorly planned event. Dissapointed.

  • by Ttrainerr on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Way too many people, line ups were to long for autographs, not enough player fan interaction!!!!!

  • Too crowded

by Dwinder on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Too many people, kids did not get any autographs and every line was jammed packed. Very disappointed

  • Crowded, too expensive, but fun

by Anonymous on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I thought it was way over-priced for what you get, and too crowded. However, we still had fun. I don't think I'd go back next year, but I'm glad I tried it.

  • by Mike813 on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

This even was a little unorganized, if this was organized correctly people would've all got a chance to meet and take pictures with the players

  • Great idea, but terrible execution

by leaffanshay on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

The line ups were unreal. Spent more than 7 hours in lines and came out with no autographs of players kids knew. Some of the pictures turned out nice, but many times the wrong photo was sent to me after the long line ups.

  • by nikki1122 on 9/10/14Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Saturday was horrific, line ups everywhere and impossible for us to get anything done! Did not get to enjoy any of the stations set up. The event on Sunday was more organized and was able to meet 2 players. It was much better than saturday
