Toronto FC History

Toronto FC played their first season in 2007 and became a perennial MLS Cup playoff contender after adding Italian soccer star Sebastian Giovinco in 2015. In his first year with the team, Giovinco became the first Toronto FC player to win MLS' Golden Boot, MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards, en route to the team's first-ever playoff berth. The team reached further success the following year by reaching the MLS Cup Final, then won the championship in 2017. That victory, coupled with their winning of the Canadian Championship and Supporters' Shield matches earlier in the year, made Toronto FC the first team in Major League Soccer history to complete the rare feat known as the domestic treble.

Toronto FC have been most dominant in the annual Canadian Championship, in which the club has taken home the Voyageurs Cup eight times, including in 2020. Individual player accolades include Rookie of the Year for midfielder Maurice Edu in 2007 and Most Valuable Player for attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo in 2020.

Toronto FC at BMO Field

Toronto FC is the city's first Major League Soccer team and the first Canadian team in the league. When BMO Field, the team's home stadium, opened in 2007, it was already the largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada. The venue has since expanded to accommodate over 30,000 fans. The Eastern Conference team's most vocal and visible supporters club, the Red Patch Boys, started rallying online back in 2006 before the team had even played its first match.

    Great experience!

by scuderi on 7/30/12BMO Field - Toronto

Although Toronto lost 2-0 to Houston, the overall experience was awesome. Great seats (we could see the Molson Amphitheatre, the Toronto Island, the CN Tower and almost the whole city from there), easy to enter and to get out, everything was really clean, the staff was really polite... and the small party after the game with some beer was also really cool! TFC might not be a brilliant soccer team, but it's worth watching it!

DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! I am a true Liverpool fan and was hoping to see at least Gerard and Suarez. You falsely advertised with suarez's picture on the front of the advertisement. Will never ever see another match here again. I would never have gone if I had known the main players were not coming.

    toronto fc vs liverpool fc

    by abbo12 on 7/23/12Rogers Centre - Toronto

I am disappointed that you can charge so much for a team that was no better than a reserve team, had I known before hand I would not have bought those tickets.I will have to look really hard in the future before I spend that amount of money again.

Fantastic match - first time for me

    by kryp2nitesurfer on 7/23/12Rogers Centre - Toronto

Was a pretty good match considering it was between an English Premier League team and a Toronto team. Had a lot of fun and also enjoyed the fact that were so many 'football' fans in Canada.

    Good but could be better

by zigiley on 7/23/12Rogers Centre - Toronto

The event was good, well organized but the issue was the heat/sun for that day. Since this stadium has a dome it should have been closed as paying $150 for a ticket and you are not at ease is not acceptable. The 2nd half of the match the dome was closed and it was more enjoyable.

    Shoot the Ball!!!!!!!!!!!

by SHOOTTHEBALL on 7/23/12Rogers Centre - Toronto

While I understand this was an International Friendly match, with 2nd & 3rd string players, the action was a total disappointment; to the point of being a boring game. Sure I can appreciate their ability to move the ball well (we saw 90 minutes of good footwork and possession soccer) but nobody was interested in scoring a goal! My inspriation for going was 2-fold; (a) to see some great soccer with a premiership team, and (b) to have a fun night out in TO. The venue (roof open amazing), the fans, the weather..........all were amazing. The soccer...........fail. Sorry to those who organized, but somebody should tell the players, coaching staff and orgainzers that soccer fans want action. If we wanted boring, we'd go to a baseball game. To be honest, my meal afterwards at Verona was more memorable than the game. Give the fans what they want. They pay the salaries.

It was an amazing experience for me as a life long Liverpool fan. Getting to watch them practice was thrilling, especially when they came and met the fans after practice.

    Great Game !!!

by leaffanforlife on 7/13/12BMO Field - Toronto

It didn't start off great -- but the end of the first and the entire second half was terrific. Those people who left after the Whitecaps tied it at the beginning of extra time should be ashamed of themselves. They missed a fantastic ending. Maybe next time they'll think twice and maybe they'll have some faith that our team is able to come back and pull out a well deserved win.

    TFC is awful this year

by KitsterKit on 6/11/12BMO Field - Toronto

We have driven down from Ottawa to see TFC at least once per year the last four years. Usually, they put in a good effort, and I have seen them win, lose and draw so my expectations for the end result is not too high. This year the team plays with no enthusiasm and no drive. I will consider driving to Montreal to see the Impact next time rather than spend my hard-earned $ on an overpriced Toronto Football Club experience.

    Awesome event !!!

by leaffanforlife on 3/9/12Rogers Centre - Toronto

The atmosphere at the TFC game was incredible. It was one of the best events ever at the SkyDome -- right up there with the World Series and the 1989 Grey Cup game. The crowd was young, fun, excited and into the game, Hopefully the same crowd will support the team during the rest of this season.

Great Experience - Nice win for Sounders

    by SoundersFan81 on 6/21/11BMO Field - Toronto

I think TM needs to identify online where the visitor and family sections are to make purchase decisions a bit easier. We got really lucky as Sounders fans and ended up right next to the 16 people that had tickets through the Emerald City Supporters. Great experience for us as Sounders fans, and because they won. A little bit of competitive banter with TFC fans, but nothing got out of hand. Security even escorted our group out and offered to walk people to their cars if they wanted. Great atmosphere. Great support for TFC from the Toronto fans. We'd definitely go again.
