9x-Blue Music Award Winner & 20x-Blues Music Award Nominated Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter Tommy Castro & The Painkillers formed in 2012, creating a high-energy, larger-than-life sound! The band has coalesced into one of the telepathically tightest units Castro has ever assembled, making them one of the most in-demand live roots music acts performing today, delivering soul-shaking, muscular music.
Tommy Castro received 5 Blues Music Award Nominations in 2022, winning "Album of the Year" ('A Bluesman Came To Town'), "Band of the Year", and "B.B. King Entertainer of the Year" - the highly coveted and prestigious Blues Music Award given every year to the most outstanding live performer. In 2023, Castro was again Nominated for "B.B. King Entertainer of the Year" (his 4th Nomination) as well as "Blues Rock Artist of the Year" (his 3rd Nomination). Castro has also been Nominated 5 times for "Contemporary Blues Album of the Year", winning the award 2 times!
Throughout his long, constantly evolving career, Legendary Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter TOMMY CASTRO has always remained true to himself while exploring, growing and creating new music. Since his solo debut in 1994, he’s made 16 albums - the last seven for Alligator Records —each its own unique chapter in the book of Tommy Castro. Ranging from horn-fueled R&B to piping hot blues to fiery, stripped-down rock ‘n’ roll, each release is solidly built upon Castro’s unshakable musical foundation—a dynamic mix of 1960s-influenced guitar-fueled blues, testifying Memphis-soaked blue-eyed soul and Latin-tinged East San Jose funk, all driven by Castro’s grab-you-by-the-collar vocals and passionate guitar work.
"The hardest thing to do," says internationally beloved soul-blues rocker Tommy Castro, "is be yourself, take some chances and bring your fans along with you."
Unbelievably beautiful venue and once again Tommy Castro did not disappoint. We will definitely go again
Tommy and the band as usual were on their game, accompanied by a female Sax/keyboard player as a guest, her name escape me as I write this................brought a new aspect to his show, I've attended several. Venue, Jimmy Jazz & Blues club, 5 star all the way around, great place, great staff, and the club it's self is outstanding, reno of an old YMCA in downtown Portsmouth, excellent renovation, great décor, and most importantly terrific acoustics The venue & the performers complimented each other resulting in a great night out, perfect!
Tommy and the whole band lit up Jimmy’s in Portsmouth, NH. Total class act and the train rolled down the track with no stops. Great vibe! Bring your kids… expose the next generation. My 12 year old loves it! Thanks to Jimmy’s and Tommy.
I have seen a lot shows in 40 years . A lot of artists have lost there vocals and slowed down. Tommy at age 66 was down right great . If anything he has gotten better with age . His show was great . He is the real blues man .
Concert was great. Venue was great. Hoping for more like this in the upcoming months.
From start to finish, Tommy Castro and his band, The Painkillers, will capture your attention and keep it! You literally feel the music! They are masters of the blues not to be missed!
Perfect in every way!! Love this venue, the band was great! Good Food too!!
Excellent show as Always! Tommy and the band are as Solid as ever. The new record is fresh w some old school feel to it. His Vocals are better then ever. I’ve been a fan fir over 25 yrs and it better each time I see and hear them.
Two of Alligator Records best Blues guitarists on the same stage equals one dynamite performance! Tommy Castro and Tinsley Ellis put on one helluva show to please any Blues music fan!
Tommy castro put on an energentic performance. He is a very underated and masterful performer. He uses a fender jazzmaster which I dont know if I have seen many performers use that. I dont think I have ever seen him live, but have alot of CDs of his material. Met him after the show and he was very personable. I plan to go see him again in April
Thank you for coming back out to play Nasty Habits!!!🎸🎼🎶
what a great place to see a performance! great views from any seat. staff was very attentive and the music was great
I have seen these guys a number of times and will continue to seek them out. A great fun night out
After a minor amp glitch they blew the doors off. This was only Castro's and Zito's second show of the tour together. It seemed like they've always played together. Creatively and effortlessly feeding off each other as well as the crowd. The crowd was smaller than expected but no less energetic. The duo and band delivered a solid fun show with songs written by Castro and Zito and even an awesome tribute to Chuck Berry! Catch these guys if you can together! You are in for a real treat!
Excellent show! Tommy and Mike are a dynamic duo - the whole evening was a WOW!
An absolute MUST for all blues fans. They played for over two hours and spent the intermission and after the concert signing merchandise and taking pictures. One of the best concerts ever!!
An amazing show! I would definitely go see them again!
GREAT CONCERT!!! WHOLE LOTTA FUN!!! I took my kids & they had a ball too!!!
We are loyal Tommy Castro fans and see him when he comes to Kazoo. He is always so enthusiastic about being at the State and brings a lot of energy to the stage. He is also generous with sharing the night with other bands. What a great night of entertainment... with three fantastic bands... ! We are so lucky to have the State Theater venue.
Tommy Castro and the Painkillers was a great concert with two opening acts. Try to see him each time he is in he our area.
