About

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:

As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"

"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"

"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."

    So-So

by AmericanGurl on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

For the little time they actually spent on stage, TP and the Heartbreakers played well and totally rocked it. However for the price of the tickets, they didn't play nearly enough songs, nor that many iconic tunes. Maybe played 10 songs at best. That part was a let down to put it mildly. I suppose it was way past the old guys bed time. I think Joe Cocker played more!

    Absolutely AMAZING!!!

by KACH3 on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Tom Petty and Joe Cocker on the same night...unbelievable! This was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. The music Tom played from Mojo was great and he played all of the older stuff too. He can still keep people on their feet from the moment he hits the stage until his final encore. Joe Cocker can still belt it out...he was fantastic!

The band was great, looked good, stylish dressers, incredible guitars, Tom is a very gracious leader. Can't wait for the new album out tomorrow. Had a blast.

The first of the tour--maybe the best!

by Slipspub on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

For such a large venue, this was an intimate concert. Tom Petty acts as if he wants to get to know you and play for you--all of your favorites better than you've ever heard them. And the new songs (well, maybe except for one) were really good, too. On a CD to come out in two weeks after an eight-year hiatus. If you bought through Ticketmaster, then you might already have received a couple in your email. Great lighting--just enough for Red Rocks. The Heartbreakers were exceptional. Tom Petty amazing.

    Boooo on Tom Petty!

by AdamInColo on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Man, I know he is probably sick of playing his older songs for however long it's been. . . but he played WAY too many of his new songs, which aren't that great. . . I mean, how can you have a Tom Petty concery without hearing "American Girl" or "Even the Losers" or "The Waiting". . . VERY DISSAPOINTED in you Tom! Was going to go to Thurs show as well, but don't think I am going to waste my money!

    Breakdown was great!

by Legsa on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Tom Petty is one of my all time favorites. I think he could have played a little longer for the price that was charged for the show and he should have played more of his oldies. Only played one song from "Damn The Torpedoes" and that was upsetting. Otherwise he did rock and roll. I can't complain about the performance!

First Red Rocks concert...venue didn't live up to the hype. Band was great when I could hear it. Fact I have to say "when I could hear it" says it all. Not greatest seats--row 55 on the end of the row--but the "there isn't a bad seat in the house" statement everyone kept telling me before the show is incorrect. I don't go to a concert to SEE the band...I go to HEAR the band.

I love Tom Petty and I have been to all his concernts in Colorado sense I was a little girl. Though this show was not as good as others. He should have played more of the older stuff. Though I still LOVE TOM PETTY!!

    Couldn't hear Tom

by Anonymous on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

You'd think they would have been able to fix his microphone. Sounded like he was singing into a microphone. And the nerve, selling short sleeve t-shirts for $45!

    Petty @ Red Rocks

by JLMB on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Petty kicked off his tour at Red Rocks this year. Great show, he still can perform. However he should have come on sooner and his opening act should have finished sooner. Would have liked to see more "old" stuff but understand he is trying to also promote his new album that will be out.
