About

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:

As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"

"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"

"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."

    Great Night!

by Familymakr on 9/30/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Saw this show on the last night of the 40th Anniversary Tour. Sitting outdoors at the Hollywood Bowl on a summer night is always a good time, but on this night it was exceptional. Loved the music, the song selection, the energy and the stories that Tom told. Had never seen him in concert and now regret that. Will definitely try and see him again!

Tom and the Heartbreakers were fantastic!!

by PatrecentlymovedtoLA on 9/30/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

We attended the final performance of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 40th anniversary tour. It was fantastic! This band has always been one of our favorites. Everyone seemed to have a really good time. Dancing in the aisles is still a thing for many of us boomers. They were worth every penny of our ticket price. We also want to give a big shout out to the security personnel who moved the lines through quickly and efficiently. We had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner in the picnic area and make it to our seats before the start of the show. Visiting The Bowl is always a wonderful experience!

    Four Decades in One Night

by SnoopMolly on 9/30/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It is obvious that Tom Petty enjoys performing and connecting with his audience. The musical journey was superb, and The Heartbreakers had plenty of opportunities to show off their outstanding talents. It was a fun evening that was worth the 200 mile round trip to see. My only disappointment was that there was no program to purchase. It would have been easy to highlight four decades together in pictures.

    Tom Petty rocks

by Wbago on 9/29/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Great event. Loved TP and Heartbreakers. Wished Stevie Nicks sang her song with them. Only negative was Bowl popcorn. Sucked. A venue with the stature of HB deserves quality popcorn. Next time bringing my bags of Trader Joe popcorn and barbecue chips.

TOM PETTY WAS AMAZING - LOVE

by Krisperkitten on 9/29/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The concert was amazing, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers off the charts. Hollywood Bowl as a venue....very tough crowd control horrible, beer and food lines causing grid lock everywhere. Parking is horrible, even with shuttle, traffic nightmare.

    Runnin' Down A Dream

    by Oshen461 on 9/29/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played an awesome show. Great song selection and a tight, rocking performance from beginning to end. One of the last true classic rock acts still worth seeing. Couldn't have done without the two teeny bopper underage drunk girls in front of us who threw up and spent the entire show standing in vomit and taking endless selfies. But hey, that's the wonderful generation coming up. I'm glad our era includes artists like TP. I've seen them a dozen times since 1977 at the Santa Monica Civic opening for Be Bop Deluxe. Still rockin' strong and hard.

    Hollywood Bowl

by artinwestlakevillage on 9/29/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Fantastic venue. Saw Tom Petty on closing night. Only problem were the people smoking openly, and no security to stop them. Pot was very prevalent, but to make matters worse, people were also smoking tobacco products right in their seats. It was hard to believe how many people were passing joints and lighting cigs. Not a good environment for my grandkids.

    Great!!!

by Uppercutpunch on 9/29/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I took my 72 year old father to his very first concert. Tom Petty is one of his faves. He was amazed by the venue, the show, and how many people actually fit into the seemingly small venue. He had a great time and is ready to see another show. Thank you so much!!
